Sorry Jessie. Disagree completely. It’s one thing to bring him in and give him a chance to earn a spot, it’s an entirely different thing to promise him a spot that he hasn’t earned. Who cares if the player “thinks” he’s ready. If a prospect is not prepared to earn his spot, and will leave if he doesn’t get a guaranty, he’s not a player I want on the team. Also, dude, most players love the city and the organization when they get a chance to actually live and play here. Stop slamming the city. It’s definitely hard to convince UFA’s to come to Winnipeg, it’s a smallish prairie city with cold winters, but we don’t have to overpay for players to stay. Calm yourself. Take a breath.

We don't know what has been said between Rutger and the Jets, maybe they told him there will be no roster spot even if he impresses in camp? And whilst I don't agree with guaranteeing him a spot without camp for obvious reasons, he is right about players not wanting to come to Winnipeg, that's always been the case and always will be the case, nothing can be done about that.
@Vince-lq3ve5 ай бұрын
@@SherLock55 I think the "player's not wanting to play in Winnipeg" is overplayed. Jet's have been an above average team for the bulk of their time in Winnipeg (2.0) and just finished 4th overall. They didn't do that because no one wanted to play here. Explain Montreal? Beautiful city but can't ice a decent hockey team for their life. What has attracted players to Winnipeg is the organization and the chance to play on a pretty good team. We've had numerous players re-up in the past and sign long term. Yes, we haven't kept too many trade deadline pick ups but that's because Chevy doesn't overpay (Monohan looks like maybe the exception). And to top it all off we rarely pay a premium on the contracts that are signed, in fact they typically are paying on the low side. Schmidt waived his no trade clause to come here...

The guy is bang on the money. This is what I've been saying the past week or so. So many Jets fans think Rutger is entititled and should wait his turn because other players did. And that may be the case for some players. But when you have a prospect with the skillset that Rutger has, you have to be willing to give him a real opportunity. Yeah, Lambert and Chibrikov and Barlow have put their time in on the Moose. But they are not Rutger. You look at the playoffs, and the Jets were constantly pushed around and knocked off the puck. There is no physical presence amongst the forwards. That's what Rutger could give this team in spades. Yeah, he has deficiencies in his skating, but name a prospect that doesn't have any deficiencies. His skating will get better with time, but even without it, he could still give the Jets' team a much-needed breath of fresh air Guys like Appleton and Barron are nice players, but they're not going to make an impact like Rutger can. To lose a guy like Rutger simply because they want him to follow the same path as other prospects is stupid and should cost Chevy his job.

Disagree, Heinola earned his spot but was never given playing time. Since his rookie year, they kept his number of games below 10 so they didn’t have to pay the guy more than tiny salary. Rutger is seeing this and is basically saying, “im not losing out on 1 to 3 years of full pay because the Jets are cheap when all the other players my calibre are getting into the way earlier. Perfetti was another guy that was not given a chance, specifically on their DOGSH** PP. the guy could’ve had another 20, even 30 points if he was given more playing time 5 on 5 and on PP. Now his numbers are down so his stock is down and people wonder why the players get frustrated. Perfetti is also tough for his size and would be a great player in the playoffs if he was given more time on the ice and part of the team. Appleton “earned it” but he still can’t score so who cares. He’s actually dropped off in the last couple years but he’s still out there every game. It’s stupid at this level of hockey. The Panthers, Avs, Stars, Oilers, and every other good team don’t make decisions like that. They put out the best players to win and that’s it.

Rutger can go back to Michigan this year come April be in his best interest to get a game in with the Jets, it's a big risk he could have a season ending injury not get his game in this year and run the risk of playing a 4th year at Michigan. A 4th year at Michigan he can choose whatever team he wants to play for but that could of also meant his ELC would of been done with the Jets.

We watched him play fairly well in the Stanley Cup Finals and Conference Finals, against some of the best players in the league, which means he could totally play against every other team as well. Especially since the oilers have Bouch, Ekholm, Nurse, Stetcher, Kulak, Ceci and now Brown all on defence, with 2.5 million over the cap, why not clear out one of those defenders like Ceci so Broberg gets constant time in the NHL. If he actually got to play with a good partner like Ekholm, I guarantee that this guy could be a top pairing defender.
