What surprising about that is that while it's true that there's a lot of unchristian Christians the more involved in church a person is the more likely they are to live out their faith as it actually is. If Jesse really is an active pastor than he bucks that trend. It's usually the people who identify as Christian but don't attend church and aren't particularly religious who fall in to justifying awful things with their doctrine. Obviously some fundamentalist sects also buck that trend but in general it's true.
