@@terrynicholls1991 The issue still remains, guns don't kill people, people do. Meaning, even if you remove guns, people will still kill other people, they will just use knives, cars, bats, etc. The statistics demonstrate that banning guns do not lower murder rates. For example, when the UK did a large gun ban, the murder rate did not decline at all... people started using knives to commit murder. Funnily enough, the UK is now considering requiring permits to own knives. The reason America has so much murder is because of gangs in poor communities, the overwhelming majority being Hispanic and black communities. Conversely, if you go to a rural "red neck" town in the US where everyone owns 3 guns, the murder rate is near zero. Finally, in the United States, the areas with the most severe gun restrictions have the most murder.

They tried again in 1996 and again more violence more crime. Over 20 years of tighter and tighter gun laws and the UK saw more and more violence. Its nor until Britain changed tacked and started targeting gangs directly did Britains violent crime rate start to level out. Britains gun laws failed and to this day are lawed and unjust.

How is that not the answer? Gun control is already pretty well proven to do very little (Harvard says no correlation at all in guns and crime). Yet, wherever in the states a new LOOSE control law is implemented, crime goes down. Not just murder, ALL violent crime. That's something gun control can't say, since England and Australia both had violent crime increases post-law.

PinkFlying Menez, how many "every day" people walk up in full rifle config vests, masks, and body armor possibly, carrying an AR-15 or random other firearm out in a brandishing manner? Again, I infer BRANDISHING as it infers they have the weapon out in a threatening manner. I don't know about you, but I don't walk around out in public with a ski mask, black combat gear, and guns out in the open in my hand. Likewise, with a few seconds you can find numerous videos of people overpowering ARMED GROUPS with a single firearm. Do not forget also that most mass shooters end up killing themselves at the first sign of armed intervention, or they end up dying horrid to the armed intervention. Either way it is a more proven aspect, as you can't name a mass shooting that hasn't ended with a firearm ending the life of the mass shooter, or the mass shooter killing himself after encountering police. There is a pretty distinguishable trait between a good guy and a bad guy with a gun, when you see a guy randomly gunning down everyone around him, versus armed individuals exchanging gun fire with a single person. But hey, I'm sure the ski mask will be a more obvious thing than that. Perhaps he might get the first person attempting to intervene, maybe the second, but the point is if SOMEONE is successful it can reduce the total death that may of happened. And let's be honest, he won't be able to predict WHO has a gun, so it leaves a point he is at that disadvantage, and all it takes is one out of a group to be successful, or even the WHOLE group. You are right, a firearm is a tool capable of lethal implications, its a sad part about the world but crime exists, and at times only LETHAL force is enough to prevent it. It may not be required to even be shot, as again THREAT of death is a very big threat, I'm not willing to barter my life, and more than likely the person attacking you isn't willing to either.

Look. The UK is an island. All of Western and Eastern Europe can fit in the US...easily. Except there exists many many layers of state security from country to country and geographically there are many barriers to the illegal importation of firearms into any European country. The US? We have none of that. We have 8,000 miles of navigable coastline. We have 3000 miles of virtually unregulated highly corrupt countries to our South with minimal security systems. We have 2500 miles of border to the South and another 3000 along the North. We have the most navigable river systems on earth. We have interstates stretching nonstop from Boston to Seattle. It is impossible to do a gun ban in the US. Utterly impossible and if we ever try it, the market will explode and every entry point possible will be choked with unregulated untracable firearms -- especially fully automatic weapons -- and the gun violence won't decrease, it will explode.

Essentially Piers Opinion: Hey you can't compare Mexico to the U.S, it has a very particular problem involving cartels, that's why they have such a high murder rate and gun control doesn't work. Essentially Also Piers Opinion: America has what one might say "a particular problem" involving mentally ill kids shooting up schools and gun control could totally prevent that. You know, despite the fact the vast majority of gun violence is gang related and gangs in America operate the same as cartels do in Mexico, at least when it comes to illegal guns. So why isn't Mexico comparable to the U.S even though both have a similar "particular problem" problem with gangs and have similar murder rates? It's probably the best country to compare it to in this case.

In fact the UK has been named the most violent nation in the EU and the 4th most violent nation in the national community. Now is a homicide committed with a firearm more of a homicide than if it was committed with a knife or bat? No a person has still died and it is in many cases far more gruesome and personal than just using a gun. What about mass killings? Well when it is with guns its few and far between the last being in Cumbria in 2010 but mass murders are far from few.

Interesting that Piers cites absolute numbers, 35 deaths in England, (which doesn't actually match the real numbers...actual numbers in recent years have been twice that), 40 some in Germany etc. Then he cites the US numbers. Using absolute numbers this makes the difference sound astronomical but its an entirely, and possibly intentionally, deceptive phrase. Should always quote these numbers as a rate per 100,000. This makes them comparable instead of maximizing sensationalist value.

I have seen Pierce say that only 35 people die by firearms in the UK. I found this to be a bit understated. On average 50 of 100k people are murdered with firearms and reported as homicides. The first was the National Firearms Act of 1934, then the Gun Control Act of 1968, and finally the Hughes Amendment in 1986.
