So, to her , how long have you been here could've translated to "How long have you been here and you still don't speak Korean? 15 years and you still can't speak right? What a joke." I work in two different states so I'm constantly traveling and having to book hotel rooms. Only, I don't dress in business suits for these jobs. They are either retail or warehouse positions so I'm often dressing casually and as a black woman, who dresses casually people often stereotype and try to pry in my personal business to find out why I keep booking a room two or three times a week. They are never direct with asking me. They always beat around the bush and that's what makes me defensive because then I'm like "Why do you want to know so bad? Mind your business." I totally understand Jessie's defense. It really does happen. But sometimes, it's hard to see who is just being genuine and that hurts too

The guy in the black suit/moustache first said something so then the other guy asked how long Jessi had been in Korea. You can tell when someone’s asking a question out of curiosity and when they’re beating around the bush or trying to be sly about something. Jessi’s cute but she instantly assumes things and talks without thinking of the consequences or how the other person might feel. To say to him ‘don’t judge me, you’ve only just met me’ when he asked a straight forward question is just.. She could have ended off with her explanation, but she had to add that last little bit and make him feel startled thinking he’d done something wrong.

Okay but Jessi is right, for those that don't know, for people who have a hard time learning languages depending on their condition speaking certain languages can suddenly become hard. Even when you speak it often you can have bad days. I speak Korean everyday and am fluent because my parents are from Korea and I've been raised speaking both from birth. I still have days where suddenly English is hard despite living in America and days where suddenly Korean is difficult despite speaking Korean at home everyday. It's all on the person and what they are like.
