Magnesium, which is in epsom salts, is needed for over 300 biochemical responses in the human body. Yes you can take a Magnesium pill which I do. However the largest organ in the human body is the skin. So soaking in an epsom salt bath does allow the magnesium to get into the body. It is very relaxing. There is a Dr who recommends people put 5 lbs of epsom salt into a bathtub and soak in it. Also there is research that has been done on floatation tank therapy. And people float in a tank or in some cases round tub with anywhere from 1,000-2,000 lbs of epsom salt. It's been said to help every from depression to relieving chronic pain. These are just some things people can do research on.
