Jessica Dragonette--Rare TV Appearance, Joe Franklin Show, 1978

Legendary radio star Jessica Dragonette made this rare TV appearance with Joe Franklin in 1978. She starred on many shows in the 1930's and 40's and was also the voice of Princess Glory in the 1939 animated version of "Gulliver's Travels".

Jessica Dragonette was a massive radio personality. At a time when Soprano’s and Contralto’s were among the most popular performers on network and local radio she was likely the biggest. She is not overstating her popularity. The dozens of radio fan magazines and newspapers everywhere covered her not unlike Sinatra or the Beatles. Radio from the 20’s to 40’s was an amazing platform it just grabbed the public like the internet did. An amazing time. Joe Franklin had a great gig for forty years. Thanks for unearthing this program.

I never heard of Jessica Dragonette before I ran across this video. My curiosity was piqued. The Social Security Index, as well as census reports list her birth year as 1900. She died in 1980. This video was couple of years before she passed away at age 79 or 80. Considering all of that I think she looks great. Thank you for sharing this.

I found this old book at a thrift shop and inside were a bunch of newspaper clippings of Jessica Dragonette. Saturday night serenade on Columbia Broadcasting systems. This book is also loaded with old recipes. Thanks for posting this video!
