Her form is excellent, but there are others who are equally outstanding. I have been looking forward to her joining the international competitions against the the Ethiopians (Dibaba sisters, Gidey, Ayana), the Kenyans (Cheruiyot, Obiri), the Germans (Klosterhalfen, Reh), Hassan from the Netherlands and a few others. There has never been a time where so many women were simultaneously at the apex of distance running. Hull will definitely be a great addition.

There are several elite Chinese and Japanese women who run with low hands and what appears to be a choppy stride, but they do quite well on the international circuit. It does look inefficient, but their times and competition results suggest otherwise.

J Hull didn't even look tired. I can't wait for her to compete against the world's elite runners.
@123jogger1234 жыл бұрын
For this she has to get much, much faster. A sub 14:30 is a must for world class. And a last lap of 65s isn't very fast compared to others. Her other reference times are also not really world class: 4:01 over 1500m and 2:03 over 800m - that's simply too slow.

The difference in body type between the Japanese and Australian runners is... astounding. I think it's awesome that some running events aren't dominated by a single body type, especially the mid distance events. It's funny seeing (in men's racing anyway) the dichotomy of buff sprinters extending up to mid distance and (for the most part) skinny(er) distance runners coming down to run a bit faster. (Nothing against women sprinters, it's just the size difference is larger in men so the effect is a bit more spectacular.) Anyway, wonderful seeing Ms. Hull crushing another race.
@pja123pja4 жыл бұрын
Yes, Hull is nice to watch but where are the Kenyans, Ethiopians and Eastern Europeans? You all know she'll have to run around 14:30 to medal in the Olympics don't you? Obiri, Hassan, Kipkemboi, Tirop, Klosterhafen are all under 14:30. I think she'll need the extra time to work on that.

Why can't they do the 1500 and 5000 in the Olympics? Since 1952, when Zatopek won gold in the 5000, 10000 and Marathon, lots of athletes have won doubles.
@firstbornjordan4 жыл бұрын
@5446 Correction, only 2 men have ever won gold for the 1500 and 5000 double. The great Paavo Nurmi 1924, and the great Hitchim El Guerrouj 2004. It took 80 years for that feat alone to be repeated. Would love to see Hull go for 1500m,

There was no pacer in this race. The Japanese runner was pushing the pace because she (and her coach) considered that the best strategy. That was her choice.
