Welcome to Episode 36 of my knitting podcast! This episode is all about a dirty, lying gauge swatch. Thank goodness the sweater was fun to knit because I’m knitting it all over again.

Jessica, so frustrating when your gauge swatch lies! I would totally frog/knit at the same time from your first sample - I've done this and it does block out. The National Park passport is such a fun idea. I live near Seattle and we just camped in Olympic National Park last week! Your Mysa pullover kept me warm in the evenings.

This is my history of knitting sweaters. Socks come out perfect. Sweaters look like they’d fit a gorilla. I’m terrified of spending $200+ on yarn just to have a disaster.

I am so sorry that your sweater didn’t fit you or your husband, but also it is nice to hear that you are only human and have some of the same frustrations as the rest of us! The design looks beautiful.

It's so easy to screw up with yarn tension and size of needles when you're stressed. I always do this for myself when I'm starting a knitting project: go for a walk; make a cup of tea; check my needles and make sure there are not any others on the table/basket; take a deep breath and repeat; make the gauge swatch. Walk away, play with my horses, and then check the swatch again and maybe even make another swatch. Yes, it's time consuming and the result is perfection instead of "OH MY GOD WHAT DID I DO?" Love this video!

I don’t like pink for myself. Yellow makes me jaundiced, so I try to stay with jewel colors and grays and browns. I guess that is why I like your designs. Your colors are my colors.

Hi Jessica! You've been missed! I'm thankful for you and appreciate your transparency and how much you love your children and want to embrace and make the most of the moments you have with them. Your designs are wonderful to knit, I'm working on My Fletching right now, and I wear Violet more than I expected, which is great! I'm looking forward to your podcasts,

All your designs are really beautiful. I am working on a project that's totally outside the box. I'm using roving corridale 🐑 that I dyed, and I'm knitting a circular sweater with it UN SPUN. I decided I didn't want to spin the wool to see what I get.😊

So interesting (and frustrating 😣!) to have your swatch lie to you. I’m curious if you knit a swatch in the round and if you typically do, because I find especially with colorwork that my small circ knitting is tighter than large circ knitting.

Hi Jessica! I’m Canadian but I have been to many US National Parks too. My very favourite is Capital Reef - such a surprising landscape and amazing colours. Not sure how close you are to it bit it’s certainly worth a visit.
