I like how you brought up the influencers topic because I myself have gone through it where the influencer swears their beyond you and they don’t pay because your shooting them .. yet their buying bottles on their instagram stories but when you ask for 150$ for a shoot that’s too much. People now just want to take advantage and I appreciate this because I have to feed myself and my family and I take time on my craft

Jessica great video, very helpful. Ever thought of doing a video on how to conduct freelance video and photo contract.
@haxacodex37843 жыл бұрын
Can always go the contractor route, where you build a portfolio and apply for a company, what’s good about this is they find your clients and send you jobs, yes you’ll make less money per shoot, but you don’t have to worry about finding clients. They send you the details you shoot and turn the photos in. You could have 8 different contracts from weddings to real estate. They handle all the customer service side of it. They have sells teams who can pitch for you, also the owners of the company usually know nothing about photography, so if you have even a half way decent portfolio they’ll contract you.

I’m not much of a portrait photographer. I have to take passport pictures at my full time job and all I hear all day long is “I look so ugly”. And I know it’s just them being hard on themselves but it also brings me down. I’ve been doing landscape and nature photography for about 6 years as a hobby. I post them on social media and get so many comments about how pretty they would look as canvas wall art. The issue is that getting them professionally done on canvases can be really pricey. I’ve tried selling them as stock photos for years and no luck.

Re: Freelancing, I would stray away from weddings. Yes the money is easy and quick but it's a high stress environment, fast-paced and highly competitive. If photography is your passion, you will burn out doing wedding photography. Try to branch out as much as possible. Shoot models, animals, landscapes, architecture, automobiles, etc. Make your shoots fun, not a chore. Don't get trapped into only making money. There's a balance between hustling and keeping your passion alive.

@myriamthibeault42363 жыл бұрын
@@Jesterisim it depends of you really. Usually I am shooting around 20 weddings a year when there's no COVID, mostly between june & october. I'm from Quebec Canada so there is a dead season for weddings (in the winter) so when the season arrives I am pumped and read y :) But it's not for everybody and if you don't like shooting weddings it's really hard doing it.

Airbnb experiences is great, but there is a 20% fee which is a bit of a bummer. Clients are usually pretty nice and understanding though, and, if they're not travelling from far, they might book again through you personally or recommend your work to friends!
@OkayHobbs3 жыл бұрын
How do you get into that? Where do you sign up as a photographer
@aldara_a3 жыл бұрын
@@OkayHobbs You don't sign up as a photographer per se, you have to sign up through airbnb to be a host, and then list a photography experience. I'd recommend looking through the photography experiences in your area to see what other are offering and how you can stand out. They do have a couple requirements but overall it's pretty easy :)

I know you mentioned stock photography, but have you ever tried to sell your photos online on stock sites? They are super picky when it comes to what they are looking for, and will reject a lot of images because they already have way too many images of that item/scene. I have a couple questions! I'm wanting to do something a bit different. I want to do equine photography but I'm more interested in just photographing shows when I can as a hobby and selling the photo packs of each team where the money will be donated to a local equine rescue. Also posting things to social media as well. Do you happen to have any idea if I'd need a contract for that? Or model release forms to post on social media or would it be considered a public thing so no release needed? How do you go about displaying photo packs for people to see and then setting it up so people can buy the pack and download the images? Especially for sets that may include a kid how do you go about ensuring you're selling those safely (as in to the actual family not to some weird rando)?

I live in LA LOL and I'm not doing those campaigns. The city is very saturated and everyone with a camera takes pictures. The worst is that there are photographers that will shoot a wedding for $250. Like how ??? How do you live in LA ? And now that the new iphone came out , I am positive that there will be more people doing "professional photography"
@Yikkoofficial3 жыл бұрын
THISS! This is my problem. Saturation of people doing the same. It’s crazy.
@litehour3 жыл бұрын
because they can't stand out from the market. Only when you are starting is that an okay price. like the first wedding sure but after that you gotta at least make minimum wage, which is 10 hours of editing and 10 hours of taking pictures. so at least 450.

Ima tell y’all this… just keep working and as people see your skill you’ll get customers soon,. It took me 3-4 years to get my first client and now I’m still barley getting any clients and the fault is my own… I get people to ask me to shoot for them and I’m too scared to shoot cuz I’m a perfectionist and that’s why I always say no! In the past few months I said no to like 6 different opportunities but recently I have been getting into it more and people and very grateful for what I do… and maybe cuz my prices are way too low!
@litehour3 жыл бұрын
how much are you charging, and if I may see your work I can give you an evaluation. And when people ask for prices always alwways ask them how much they are willing to spend first when you get started.

@@litehour I haven’t posted any wedding pics yet, but I can dm you some and let me know. You shoot professionally? I did get paid $400 for a product shoot, it was 13 jackets, 3 pics each but I had to do a lot of photoshop work 🤦♂️🤦♂️ And then I shot a wedding for my tutor’s sister, it was supposed to be for free cuz he helped me a lot throughout the semester so it didn’t feel right but he gave me $300, even though he wasn’t supposed to. I hadn’t shot for about 6 months so I decided to do a car shoot for $100 for a friend of mine and recently i shot a video for a friend again and he has helped me a lot so I wasn’t expecting him to pay me anything, I actually told him not to, but he paid me $150 and $60 to rent a gimbal… I know the prices are very low but I guess look at my work and then you’ll know if it’s because of the quality or just me being to shy to ask for $$$

We are not allowed to do photography and earn money with it, you need to have a primary job (that is 20+ hours a week for 3+ months) before you can earn extra money on the side over here. So for me earning money with photography is probably never going to happen because i could never handle a 20+ hours a week job and do photography on top of that.
