There isn’t one nice comment under here. As a white woman you’re 100% right and I am so glad she embraces her roots too. I do not identify with the colonizers in this video - there’s a revolution going on out there, and it’s time for white ppl to clean up their mess and let the original kings and queens take over. America was built by walking all over Native Americans and on the backs of slaves, and it’s time for them to be in way*** more leadership roles making the decisions.

I just mentioned how I seen the song in a relationship scenario, which was totally different from the video theme. There’s not really to many artists that truly put the ART in artists the way Jessie does. The way she really brings the deep and heart-wrenching meaning of a song like this to life in a way that’s so tear-jerking, yet beautifully powerful. It makes you love this already very powerfully heart-wrenching, yet beautiful song even more. The animation such a true piece of art that makes you feel like you’re watching a classic animated Disney movie come to life in song form. For what’s by far one of the most beautiful and amazingly creative music videos you will ever see. Just like Jessie said in a statement about the new visual. “Colonialism is in the mitochondria of racism." The message really conveyed in both the heart-wrenching, yet beautifully deep meaning of both the video and song. Showing how badly, we've treated the earth and each other throughout history. Is so accurate and really hits home even more so with everything going on now that we need to change. Which is why we all needed a reset and what's happening in the world. Is currently happening. So it can allow us all to really look at each other and ourselves to make those necessary changes we all need to better ourselves and the word around us.

Kenna thanks, yeah I always like to get down to the details of a lot of the songs on an album. When I listen to it, I want to feel that connection or the same type of vibe the artist did when they made that particular song. I’m glad that I’m able to express that through my great gift of journalism/writing. That a lot of others may not be able to or if they’re able to maybe not as well as someone like myself or other writers maybe able to. That’s why I love interviewing artists a lot of times to get their actual thoughts about particular parts of a performance, album, song or whatever maybe on my mind that I myself or I know others will want to know about an artist.

Love is the only way. But sometimes war is inevitable. Sometimes when you fight for something that you love it could kill what you love the most. This song really touched my core on another level. And for all that don't know, she is Colombian, most of the true indigenous were wiped out by biological warfare. They could not conquer the people, they were literally fearsome warriors that had no fear of death. Only fragments of tribes are still in us, but all we need is .00001 percent in our blood and we still won't forget.

When music speaks for the masses, it becomes more than art. The courage to speak for the voiceless is rare and beautiful. I am humbled, thank you.

I love that Jessie has a similar feel to Janelle Monáe, both sing with soo much emotion and hurt that their music never fails to move a heart.

Fun fact: The ARAWAK people stretched from Florida all the Caribbean islands down to Venezuela. The sub-tribe of the Arawak named the Taino people saved Colon and his diseased crew of prison inmates from the Sea, starvation, the wilderness and gave him all the gold the land possessed. The Taino people where the first to be taken in chains to Europe to kneel before the Queen. Most Tainos never made it to Europe since they jumped into the Atlantic instead.
