When I first heard this song the other day, I could've sworn it was the theme from some late '80s/early '90s romance movie. I was shocked when I learned it's from just two years ago (2012)! The steady drumbeat, the haunting solo vocal with subtle harmonies, and the brooding chord progression all evoke for me those heartfelt and poetic power ballads from that time period. The poignant image of two lovers who know deep down they're no good for each other-and yet need to be together-definitely resonates with me.
