This week we battled the weather a bit but got the Sweet Peppers sown. They are now on the heat mat waiting to germinate.
The Heat Matt: amzn.to/3CshVvu
The Varieties:

Marconi Rosso: grownlocal.co....

So exciting to see your seedlings coming along 😁 I'm really hoping for a good season, we are long overdue a decent year! I was away alot last year so didn't do too much veg and I've really missed picking kale or pulling green beans and tomatoes out of the freezer over winter so I am conscious of making more of an effort this year. I am trying to stick to just the things I know we're going to use and make the most out of. I'm going for just 3 varieties of hot chilli's. Thai, scotch & sugar rush. I enjoy making sweet chilli and siracha sauces, jerk marinades & I love a vindaloo strength curry and find the sugar rush are perfect for that. My sweet peppers seem to get eaten by mice on the allotment so I'm going to try some lunch box/patio peppers in pots at home as I like them stuffed with feta or cream cheese. I haven't got broad beans in yet as I filled everywhere with flowers last year so I need to move some things around. My garlic is sitting looking at me threatening to shoot so I need to pop that in first, and I'm due to move house 3rd March! I'm not panicking just yet but do need to start making some kind of plan soon 😅

I am so happy I just remembered your videos! I’m in the US and it’s been a really messed up year lol. My watching has been basically all political and I really need a break. So I have an entire year of your videos to watch. Seriously you have no idea how happy I am. It’s pretty doom and gloom over here.

Hi Jessie, missed you on Potty Mouth. Hoping you are back soon. You mention poor germination of chillies and peppers in the past. Chilli Chump recommends soaking the seeds in weak tea overnight. I tried it, it works great. I now get near 100% germination! Recommended. 😊

So many hot peppers. We do a cayenne and jalapeño and giving up super hot. Gave up Tabasco as they don’t finish up in time. We like some of the mild spicey and tend to make chili powder/paprika or sauces. My fav is sweet thick walled bell peppers-not a fan of thin walled. Ooo, exciting you got a shipment and kitty was excited also-probably want to play inside the box. We use to have a cat that went Bonkers over a paper bag 😅. I agree about older keyboards-the new ones I can’t tell where the keys are. Ha Ha, a cat bird feeder 😅. Our birds love black sunflower seeds. The wind is whipping here this week with the January thaw and still no moisture in upper Midwest.

For a good bird count put seeds out a week before, every day for the week. Birds will know if you have and come. Once a year, especially if everyone is doing the count, the birds will be at the places they know have food. We have resident hummingbirds, so for me it's relay time, take in the semi-frozen feeder, put warm one out, repeat until it's warm enough to keep the nectar liquid. Anna's Hummingbird. They fly straight up, backwards, hover, and zoom at 60kms/hour when trying to get any others away. Bonus is the ruby flashing colours on the male throat.

Yeah, i have seed in the tree in the front garden and we have a good lot of birds come regularly. It was just one of those days because we normally have loads of birds come down the moment we throw seed out! Hummingbirds are absolutely incredible.

I get quite a few Marconi Rosso peppers in my greenhouse in Sweden. They seem to like the long days we get, but of course they get the best places in the greenhouse with the most sun. I don't have a heatmat, I put the seeds in peat pucks in a lunchbox on the radiator, whatever germinates and produces the first leaves gets a proper pot and soil. I also have last years plants in the south facing window, but the are looking a bit dead. I'm still hoping for a miracle.

I turn them off at night Julie. I really should have them on a timer or manage the exact hours they are getting but i'm a bit lax with that.

Yeah, they have to land. I wasn't really counting the seaguls and things. Just interesting to stand there and see whats flying about!

I have just looked up american robins, Bob! i didn't even know they were different. I just thought a robin was a robin! Yours look much more dark and mysterious than ours.

How do you expect the poor birds to come down when you've a cat roaming around???
@ninemoonplanet

It depends on what bird, some don't care, others will fly away. Crows, ravens, blackbirds, they're not afraid.
