Speaking of the phrase, "cute as a button," I read an M/M romance novel last year where a grown man actually referred to another grown man (his love interest) with that exact phrase, verbatim. And that wasn't even close to the extent of the infantilization of that character. As a queer man myself, I was HORRIFIED! If I hadn't been reading a digital version of that book, I would have lit it on fire.
