Jess literally said a few times that they were just doing their job and she was thankful for that so she acknowledged that in the video her daughter watched it happening and Jess was trying to comfort her and explain the process to her because she was visibly upset and for the male TSA agent to also try to comfort her and trying to lighten the mood is saying something because even he noticed how his coworker was handling it and how it was affecting Addie so kudos to him for trying to help the situation the lady could of taken a better approach 🤷🏼‍♀️

Some people really really don't like reborn dolls and you can't expect them to treat them as a real baby.. TSA wasn't rude, she was doing her job. It is just a toy in the end and not a real baby. She didn't throw it around or wasn't rough etc. She got it back in 1 piece without being damaged which is more than I can say travelling across the US.

Most Agents are incredibly kind. But I ADORE the people that don’t like them the most😉 What most people don’t understand is that many people that collect them come from years if not decades of significant child loss, abuse & childhood trauma. I’m not a Collector, but do sell to people around the world. I raised 4 kids as a single Mom & sculpted hyper realistic dolls for major Galleries. It’s been an honor. I'm sorry, I usually think Jess's dramatics are funny, but this one is rubbing me the wrong way. The lady wasn't being "mean" or "rude" at all, she was simply doing her job. I even went back to watch to see if I missed anything. In my opinion, Jessica made it worse by egging the situation on and talking about the woman in front of Addie. It's standard procedure, and maybe Addie should've been forewarned about what was going to happen with her baby.

Don’t worry, what happened to Addie’s doll happens all the time when people fly with reborns. They always x-ray questionably because of how they are weighed inside. They have to swab them for traces of narcotics and scan them several times. Some will even take limbs or the head off to look inside.

I think it’s amazing that Addie has Melody. I personally collect reborn dolls and Melody is absolutely precious! ❤ I would feel the same way as Addie if my baby was taken like that and handled so harshly. The glass beads can be concerning, but the one women could’ve handled the baby better, especially because I know how pricey these dolls can get. As a collector of reborns it breaks my heart that hers is mistreated. They are very expensive and one of a kind items. Also be careful about the rooted hair and varnish on the kit itself, the hair can and will fall out along with the varnish being worn off from the oils on your hands. I’d also suggest you open it up and stuff the body tighter so the head doesn’t flop as much. With the way she holds it most of the time you can get tearing in the body from the floppiness. (Cut the zip tie that is holding on the head, take the head off, add poly fluff, place head back on, insert new tie, zip and clip excess.

@@cateyes8588 so I am very back and forth on it. From a collector standpoint, I cringe watching how it gets held and played with. They are expensive as the kits are hand sculpted then mass produced along with custom hand painting and rooting. I have seen complete dolls for for upwards of $10,000. Now that was a very famous artist but still. My cheapest doll was $150, that’s a lot for a child’s toy. Many times a collector can sell the collection if need be but a child’s toy has almost no resale value in the community. On the other hand my dolls have helped immensely with my mental health and can for others too. The weight calms your mind and puts you in a relaxed state because it thinks it’s a real baby and that you need to be calm(the floppiness and weight). I have also used mine to curb extreme baby fever and know many collectors that use them to deal with empty nest syndrome or infertility issues/infant loss. There is also a lot of stigma around them as it’s sad that the child my end up within that. Addy dealt with that at the airport. Our community has been called ped@files, crazy, creeps and much more because we treat them with care. It’s tough when you see children with them and then reborns get branded as “childish”. I can see how they would benefit a child’s imagination and truthfully wish I had known about them sooner. I just feel like they really aren’t suitable for a first doll or a young child just because it is an investment. If the child is responsible and gentle while playing it can work out wonderfully.

I feel like they could be amazing to a kid that understands the art form that they are. An 8-12 year old has a better understanding of how to truly appreciate and treat a doll like that. It’s hard seeing someone pass it off to young kids especially because of the wear and tear that can happen. If not properly maintained (ie restuffed, weight bags redistributed, varnish reapplied) they can and will fall apart. My personal dolls need to be revarnished due to me handling them normally. I just hope that the money they spent/ will spend isn’t too much.

This is doll situation is too much. There is no reason to be upset that a TSA agent was holding a toy in a way that you would not. She could've held it by the ankle upside for all that it matters. Addie is way too attached to that thing, it seems unhealthy at this point

I am completely rubbed the wrong way by this whole TSA situation… IT’S A DOLL. It is NOT TSA’s job to entertain your kid… They are BUSY worrying about your SAFETY! Plus they have a stressful job. Have some empathy. She wasn’t rude. It’s quite literally a doll. You should’ve explained to Addie what was going to happen to her DOLL since you said “you knew it would be pulled.” This is just so irritating. And no one says they have to entertain kids but as an adult in a public facing job you could and should at least show some compassion and there's no need to have a bad attitude. Her coworker calling her out also shows how she handled that interaction with a literal child isn't how every agent would have handled it. And just holding the doll in a different way wouldn't have made her job take any more time or done it any more difficult.

My mom made a doll for my good friends daughter, gave it to her the night before they flew home….TSA thought it was stuffed with drugs and proceeded to shred the whole body with a knife while the little girl screamed and cried. May I make a suggestion, I am very familiar with reborn dolls I have 7 total and everyone that is in the reborn community recommends that if you are going to fly with Melody, contact the reborn artist and get a zip lock bag with a sample of the glass beads and carry them with you so you can show TSA this way you can go through without a problem. I hope this helps. Oh and another tidbit never ever put them in the suitcase under the plane

I am also a reborn collector and what I recommend is pack a different container or a Ziploc bag with the glass beads that is used for your reborn’s or whatever it is to use for your reborns weighting, a different bag for stuffings, so whenever they try to see what is inside the dolls, give them the Ziploc bags and be like hey this is glass beads. This is what it is to fill up the dolls and this is stuffing used for the dolls, so you don’t have an incident where they cut up your dolls to find out what’s inside them, I heard abt an incident where they cut up the reborns body, so be safe!!

Ugh. That sucks. I know I would have been upset if that happened to me as a kid. To Addie, that doll is real and everything to her. I had a bitty baby that I remember taking everywhere like Addie does with her reborn. I also understand the concern with the TSA agent holding Melody by her head. It doesn't always have to be about race. White people, black people and asian people etc can all have a bad attitude or a bad day at work without it being about their skin color. You shouldn't be exempt from criticism based solely on your skin color. This was the experience of a six year old girl that got upset about her doll, she would have been equally upset no matter who handled it in that way and therefore we would have heard about her feelings no matter the skin color of the employee.
