For those of you who may not yet realise it, "All The Things You Are" is one of the most perfect songs ever written. Even in just the way the first two words "You are ..." and throughout, are set to music. It says: you are! It is that simple the rise of interval and so, as beautiful as all that. I cannot imagine the feeling of satisfaction upon having written such a thing, or even what Ms. Norman must have felt singing it, beyond what I am experiencing now. Completeness. If as a writer of contemporary songs, musicals and the like, you took this absolute measure of divine magic as your one and only yardstick, to tell someone you loved them, you would be doing more than well, and your love would be returned. It is one of those songs I rarely talk about. I am not sure why, perhaps because of the very wonder of it, the understated swoon 'neath a languidly hung moon, a mystic soft cedar bathed in a pearly light. But when I am in the moment of it, little outside that moment exists. Imagine the fantasy Chopin could have woven around it. It is so Chopinesque, yes?

Obviously, the voice is divine. But the orchestration is very interesting and adds a lot. I suspect that it's John Williams's own orchestration. Can anyone confirm that?
