This interview was contrived and misleading. Ms Jessye Norman was one one the preeminent sopranos of the 20th century; her accomplishments came from a foundation of immense talent and self awareness. But she never forgot her roots and where she came from. Her acts of philanthropy and giving and kindness are well documented. She performed African American spirituals with the same profound eloquence that she brought to Wagner. She was magnificent-the true definition of "Diva". She will live forever.

I can clearly see why the iconic diva depicted in the 1981 movie "DIVA" would have had to be Jessye Norman. Her speaking voice is quite special too.

How can people compare singers, who was the best or not? It is imposible to compare if the Rose is more beautiful than the Orchidee, silly joke ! She was amazing, Gorgeous, like many singers, but unique, Unforgettable

So many of these opera stars from last century were single or ended up divorced. Norman had a great idea sometimes weird opera career. A lot of fun and highly exaggerated singing that was often highly effective. Her Carmen was truly bizarre. Hollow girlish and short topped. She clearly had a lot of fun doing it though. And we loved her for it.

It is easy to understand. Both were exceptional women true to themselves and legends and they are greatly missed.

Apparently this interview had been pieced together and edited in a way that took other responses from Jessye Norman and applied them to different questions. She was not given the questions before the interview out of curtesy and she was not, in fact, avoided when opera houses were hiring for Carmen. The fact that they brought her body size into it is disgusting.

Isabella Wark-Pantoja: Despite what people want to believe, there is a verisimilitude about casting when it comes to opera. While there is a cessation of reality when it comes to the casting of stars, there should still be the semblance of hope that what you see is believable. And Miss Norman as Carmen may not have worked. But again there is Pavarotti, so who can say?

Jessye Norman knew what the German term "Ausdruck" means when singing and she was able to sing that way esp. at German Lieder. (Tip: Listen to her "Kindertotenlieder".)

😂😂😂 Please! He’s a typical white Democrat who uses other races (particularly black) to leverage his ‘acceptance’ quota of them whilst denigrating them to their core since he remains a superior, white Democrat…usually a Jew. Ask yourself how many white leftists in visible, high-ranking jobs who repeat “racism” and “diversity” actually live near blacks?? HE is a racist who stoked division with every black he’s ever interviewed like all white Dems who EDIT reality to suit a narrative. Then they return to their posh home in a secured, gated, pricey, white community. 😂😂😂

I disagree with you. Look around you how uneducated low class people are taking over the world. They are everywhere in the streets, on tv particularly, in your shopping center or the bus. When you meet someone like her so exceptionally talented, so educated and who speak so well somebody who breath intelligence and culture you should not have a problem putting them on a pedestal or bowing in front of them. Yes, they are human beings, not just merely "another human beings" and in today's world those exceptions should be noticed as they are so few of them left.
