Jim got told before the interview that the interviewer was a massive fan of Joy Division so he said negative things about them to annoy him.

Almost all of JAMC's early songs are based on the palette that Hendrix laid down with his songs "I Don't Live Today" and "Love or Confusion." Listen to those two songs in their entirety and you can't deny it.

Regardless of his personal taste regarding Joy Division, Jim actually made his point here for another reason - to the present day, lazy journalists and interviewers annoyingly continue to bring up Joy Division (or Sex Pistols for that matter) in order to compare others with them...

It's not though is it. They were a fantastic, groundbreaking and one of the most influential bands ever. Jim is actually a massive fan of Joy Division, he's taking the piss, as always.
