My favorite movie of all times is Jesus Christ Superstar. Considering this is done in a theater and in Italy. I totally give this a thumbs up. It doesn’t matter if people get petty about accents or not because that’s not what this is about. They did an amazing rendition of this show and I’m so proud of them. I’m not complaining about anything because I still got the same reaction as I do when I watch the dvd at least 5 or more times a month. I salute them for their dedication and commitment towards making the best version they could. Stand proud guys .. no matter what as a true fan of the original, I totally accept your fanfreakintabulous work of art. Thank you for entertaining me. Bravo 🎉

Everyone in the comments needs to understand that this is an Italian theater company doing an English rock opera that’s not in their native language. I didn’t mind the accents at all because as a fan of JCS, I’m impressed by the effort put into it. Plus the guy playing Jesus is hands down gorgeous!

JCS has always been my favorite musical and I LOVE this production. We found this version four years ago on YT and always watch it every Easter. LOVE the hard rock guitar, the dancing, the Italian accents, and using women to sing some of the male parts. Giorgio Adamo is the most perfect choice to play Jesus ever with his look and charisma.

I saw the original when it was on tour, it was amazing to a 13 year old. But, I still enjoy watching other takes on it. I really enjoyed the special on TV a couple off years ago with John Legend as Jesus. I'm just glad it is still being performed. I know every word of it, and enjoy it each time.

I am in awe of the singing voices. I saw a production in Aberdeen Scotland and it blew my mind. I wept. I sat in the front low and when it came to Jesus singing he locked eyes with me and I could not breath. Now that is something I will never forget. It was 20 years ago. I laughed (rubber chickens hanging up in representing the traders) Awesome couldn't even describe it. this is on a par. The costumes are different but brilliant none the less. I pray people are saved by watching this production.

When this musical play first played on Broadway in 1971, I was 22 or 23 years old. Now 53 years later, I'm now 75 years old. I do not live in NYC. I really liked it a lot! I'm just a little disappointed the play didn't include Jesus rising from death 3 days after the crucification. I think it would have made a better ending. It wouldn't have had to go beyond that. That was the point of the story, that everyone knew he really was Gods Son. Why the writers didn't include that, is disappointing. Bravo to the Italian cast. Excellent performance!

Among the many controversies that the musical produced there is the one on the’absence of the resurrection: it, in fact, ends with the crucifixion, after which the troupe of actors goes back on the bus hippie to go home. You can try, however, to read this scene differently: in the finale the protagonists who really had a contact with Jesus, show a different attitude than the other actors. You see Barry Dennen (Pilate) who, right on the threshold of the’abitacle, stops thoughtfully, turning for a few moments towards the cross; similarly, with sadness in his face, Yvonne Elliman (Mary Magdalene); lastly Carl Anderson (Jude) stares at the cross for a long time, looking at the cross, even when the van leaves through the dusty streets, it is noticed that Ted Neeley (Jesus) is not present among the actors who return and, at the same time, the final’ framing at sunset, shows how the cross is devoid of the figure of Jesus. At some point, one glimpses into the distance, like a’ombra, a shepherd who, slowly, leads a flock: a’image that evokes «I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep» (Jn 10:11). During the film, there are several scenes in which a flock is framed: the most intense one represents Judas who, just after betraying Jesus in the last supper, runs away scattering a flock of reddish color, with a, like the blood that will be shed. Now, in the’last framing, the cross is empty, the flock is reassembled and those who have had a’experience with Jesus are no longer the same: but these are the disruptive and intimate effects of the Resurrection. That's pretty dang cool! My first time seeing JC Superstar was in a Presbyterian Cathedral in Salt Lake City, Utah around 1987/88. The effect inside the cathedral with the stained glass and pews was quite surreal. I was maybe 18/19. Blew my mind! It is oddly still relevant.

I can't imagine how difficult it is to sing in a language that is not your native language. I am sure some of these actors don't even speak English at all. That being said, there are some very impressive performances in this production. Mary Magdalene stands above all. Her ability to emote so richly while singing is very impressive. The actor portraying Jesus has a very powerful and robust voice. He knows when to blow the roof off, and when to be incredibly nuanced. He is both rock star, and balladeer. Judas has a great voice. My only issue with his portrayal, is that he is constantly turned up to 11. He comes in like a wrecking ball. Pilate was amazing. He has a great presence and ability to command a scene.

This play was written and edited first in the early 1970s, when I was a child (eleven or twelve years old). I have ever heard of since. This is the first time I am listening to it. It's wonderful, in a way I ever couldn't believe. I am working, in the office, at times joyfully listening to this play.

Mary was phenomenal. Incredible cast of performers. People commenting on their accents are just being stupid. Singing is judged on accents. A voice is an instrument the words and accent is insignificant in judging a singers musicality

It's not accent that is most important, it is intonation. Intonation, the rhythm of the sentence, is extremely important in English. The meaning of a sentence often depends on the stress pattern. In this production, it is a simple fact that the intonation is often wrong.

As a singer, I have to disagree, I think... I don't really think anyone here had a problem with their accents. I certainly didn't. They're Italians singing in English. What do you expect? But when a singer is given a leading role, it is her responsibility to at the very least, get the pronunciation right. The woman who played Mary had a lovely voice, good interpretation of the lyrics and expressive acting skills. But her apparent inability to pronounce "th" was terribly distracting. It's some-thing, not some-tink. That's not her accent. That is simply mispronunciation and should have been corrected. Caiaphas's extra syllable in every phrase was his accent, but at least most of his pronunciation was correct. 😉

When the original came out i was 7-8 years old and now every time i hear "Superstar" i sing the song we all sang as kids in the school yard: "Jesus Christ Superstar Burnin' down the corner in a motorcar. Thanks for sharing this. For starters you had me at Jesus! Giorgio Adamo's incredible vocals and amazing stage presence was clearly superstar material. As for the rest of the cast, they put on a great show. No this is not the JC Superstar I fell utterly in love with when I first heard the album & saw the film, both way back in the 70s. Oh those killer vocals/performances by Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson & Yvonne Elliman. But that was a movie with a big budget, an even bigger backdrop,a big cast, multiple takes & vocals that were set down & perfected in a recording studio. JC Superstar live is obviously a completely different beast & an ambitious one to tackle, especially for amateur troupes like this. You work with what you have to make it work.That's grass roots musical theatre for you. So sometimes that means women will play a male role by necessity or design. And still the world turns. Just because something isn't West End/Broadway perfect doesn't make it any less entertaining. This was performed with passion & conviction & I enjoyed it, accents & all!

I've been lucky to have seen on stage several productions of JCS in Europe & the US, as well as the film version. They were all great. This Italian one is impressive in most, if not all parts. Giorgio Adamo, apart from a fine actor, is the most physically beautiful Jesus I've ever seen.

No hay mejor versión de esta obra,los cantantes superaron todo,estoy enamorada del talento que poseen,no me cansó de escuchar esta obra de Arte,no entiendo porq los aplausos son tan suaves,lastima que no tengo tuve el privilegio de estar presente cuando esto su hizo, que maravilla,grandioso,espectacular,me quedó sin aliento admirando a estos estupendos artistas,cantantes dé Dioses! No he visto nunca en KZbin un vídeo que suscite una división tan radical. Unos opinan que la versión es fantástica y otros que es terrible. Es sorprendente esa discrepancia. Enfin, yo soy de los primeros. Creo que es una versión muy buena, tanto a nivel de cantantes como de músicos. Es insólito obtener tanta calidad en un montaje local. Pueden estar muy orgullosos, esta producción puede ir por todo el mundo sin la menor duda. ENHORABUENA A TODOS !!!!!
