Did Jesus come to make sure his followers continue to keep the Old Testament laws? How does he not “abolish” the Law but “fulfill” it? What is meant by a “jot and tittle” not passing from the Law? Are there “more important” and “less important” commands? What is implied by us being the “salt of the earth” and “light of the world”? These and other questions, Chad Bird will address in this week’s Reading the Gospels through Hebrew Eyes on Matthew 5:13-20.

I have been struggling with this as David loved the law, how can I not? The Lord has been taking me on a journey. I now love the law and for so many reasons.... Too many for here but now I say.. Jesus is the fulfillment of the law, the period of every sentence. How can you hate the law and say you love Him who is the fulfillment of the law? My journey took me to the word obedience.... It is not in the Bible. It's a bad translation. Walking in the ways of God is not a human performance of right and wrong. So much more to say but great video. Thanks for posting.

Not so much in our circles, but I do hear Jesus referred to often as "The New Moses." I think that is potentially problematic on so many fronts. We don't need another lawgiver. We need a Savior. Your thoughts? And thanks again, brother. Wonderful teaching.

No he does not. He follows the RCC on that question, the little horn in Daniel that thought to change times and laws and made war with the Commandment keeping saints that didnt go along with those changes.

I appreciate the depth to which you explain things. I’m still not sure that there is anything wrong with listening and guarding (shema shamar) the whole voice of God (or as you have explained it to be the law or the entire old testament). We are justified through the sole work of Jesus. We cannot improve upon our justification. Nor, is there anything we can do to ensure that we remain justified (in my opinion). I realize that through His fulfillment of those things which have already passed, we would dishonor His work by pretending that we can be atonement with Him by any other means for example. However, to diligently become acquainted with His word and practice His commandments to help us remember and to be sanctified seems to me to be a good thing. I implore you to help me understand if I am doing anything wrong if I choose to abide by anything in the old testament other than bringing dishonor to His work.

if that is so then why did the apostles and disciples teach non Jews to keep the Sabbath after Jesus had already ascended. In the book of Acts there are 74 separate incidences of them teaching non Jews to keep the Sabbath.

@nickylouse2 8 ай бұрын
@@elliot7205that is a worthy question I assume you were referring to the teaching to Gentiles to keep the Sabbath. Numbers 15:16 may be the answer to that. If you were referring to my stipulation about being justified by Jesus or not improving upon it ourselves, I can answer that one in a separate message.

New Covenant Whole Gospel: Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36) We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24. 1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. Watch the KZbin videos “The New Covenant” by David Wilkerson, or Bob George, and David H.J. Gay.

I think my question brings me back into the law but the example of the mother bird and babies seems to suggest that if there are heavier commandments, then sin is a matter of degree also. I always had the impression that sin is sin and regardless of what the sin is, the blood of Jesus covers it. I mean tge point of Jesus's fulfillment was to put the law behind us, not keep us wondering about the gravity of a particular act versus another. Doesn't that just whip us back to eating forbidden fruit?

Yes two trees in the garden. The tree is the knowledge of good and evil... The tree is Life is our tree now. Our human nature is to eat from the wrong tree and our religiosity perpetuates that. There will come a time when we know as we are known and in that moment we will see ourselves in Christ owrdeft and holy the same way as Adam and eve did not know they were naked until they are from the wrong tree. That's the challenge i see. For us to continue to abide in Christ no matter what regardless of our mistakes or failings with anything in this earth. That is the only thing that has lasting change, our abiding in him regardless of right and wrong and guilt.

@@MrArmywilber If you have evidence that the Bible figure known as Jesus existed, provide it. However, it is an absolute fact that there is literally no contemporaneous evidence that Jesus ever existed. Paul made up the Jesus fiction in 48 AD after the Daniel 9:25 prophesy failed to fulfill. Should we expect that if God was walking around town for thirty years that the locals would have noticed at the time? Fun fact: none of the Gospel authors witnessed Jesus.
@twitherspoon8954
@twitherspoon8954 Жыл бұрын
@@MrArmywilber The only Bible author who claimed to have seen Jesus is Paul who asserted he met him in a vision and described him as being a bright light. Paul actually stated that his sources were non-human, "...the gospel I preached is not of human origin." (Galatians 1:11-12). The Jesus story began in 48 AD with the first of the Pauline Epistles (which comprise nearly half of the New Testament books) when Paul realized the Daniel 9:25 prophesy of a messiah expired without fulfilling so he made one up decades later and set the story decades in the past matching Jewish expectations of the messiah to make the prophesy seem true. The fulfillment of the Daniel 9:25 prophecy written in 444 BC was the test of the true messiah. By 48 AD it was known that the prophecy of a messiah coming in "seven weeks and threescore and two weeks" had not occurred on the prophesied date. It was the 69th Week and the 70th Week was soon to come. The prophesied messiah was expected and the anticipation set off a messiah craze. "Seven weeks and threescore and two weeks" is, 7 plus 60 plus 2 equals 69 total weeks. One prophetic week equals seven biblical years of 360 days (the Julian calendar was created centuries later), so 7 times 69 equals 483 total biblical years beginning with Artaxerxes' decree in 444 BC. Those 483 biblical years equal 173,880 days, or 476 Julian years. Therefore the Messiah would come and be "cut off" in AD 33. One prophetic week equaling seven Biblical years is something “Daniel” invented in about 165 BC, effectively an admission that Jeremiah 25:11-12 failed. Paul made up the entire Jesus story and added historical figures, locations, and events to add authenticity. In the Galatians "road to Damascus" conversion vision tale written in 48 AD he claimed to have gone to the Arabian desert to study the Old Testament for 17 years to align with the Daniel 9:25 prophecy. Paul's goal was to garner support for the insurrection against the Romans which began in 46 AD led by two brothers, Jacob and Simon, in the Judea province. The revolt, mainly in the Galilee, began as sporadic insurgency until it climaxed in 48 AD when it was quickly put down by Roman authorities. Both Simon and Jacob were executed.
