Jesus of Nazareth is a 1977 British-Italian television miniseries directed by Franco Zeffirelli and co-written by Zeffirelli, Anthony Burgess, and Suso Cecchi d'Amico which dramatises the birth, life, ministry, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.
The storyline of Jesus of Nazareth is a kind of cinematic Diatessaron, or "Gospel harmony", blending the narratives of all four New Testament accounts. It takes a fairly naturalistic approach, de-emphasising special effects when miracles are depicted and presenting Jesus as more or less evenly divine and human. The familiar Christian episodes are presented chronologically: the betrothal, and later marriage, of Mary and Joseph; the Annunciation; the Visitation; the circumcision of John the Baptist; the Nativity of Jesus; the visit of the Magi; the circumcision of Jesus; the Census of Quirinius; the flight into Egypt and Slaughter of the Innocents; the Finding in the Temple; the Baptism of Jesus; the woman caught in adultery; Jesus helping Peter catch the fish; the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15: 11-32); a dialogue between Jesus and Barabbas (non-biblical); Matthew's dinner party; the Sermon on the Mount; debating with Joseph of Arimathea; the curing of the blind man at the pool; the Raising of Lazarus (John 11:43); the Feeding of the Five Thousand; the Entry into Jerusalem; Jesus and the money changers; dialogue with Nicodemus; the Last Supper; the betrayal of Jesus by Judas; Peter denying Christ and repenting of it; the judgment of Jesus by Pilate ; the Johannine Passion Narrative (John 18-19; including the Agony in the Garden); the Carrying of the Cross; the Crucifixion of Christ (Laurence Olivier's Nicodemus recites the "Suffering Servant" passage [Isaiah 53:3-5] as he looks helplessly on the crucified Messiah); the discovery of the empty tomb; and an appearance of the Risen Christ to his Disciples. I was 12 years old when my parents took me to see the movie in cinema, The cinema was overflowing, people sat right in front of the screen and filled the aisles, there was not even a single tiny space open. I saw it with my best friend we cried from beginning to end, right through all three intervals. Later that year, on a church camp, we were both reborn on a hill overlooking Heidelberg. I remember laughing non stop for almost two hours and running around like a racehorse on speed at the same time it was wonderful. This movie showed me, as a child, how real Jesus really is and that every word He taught is like the biggest treasure the world has ever seen. That, along with my wonderful mom and dad who taught me about Him from a tiny babe, i thank Him every day for loving me despite my sins and shortcomings. Jesus is EVERYTHING!!!!

This is STILL the best Jesus movie ever made IMO. I'm 60 years old and I grew up with it ..watched every year on mainstream network...then sometime in my late 20s all the great Christian movies were banished from regular TV along with the morals of society. Olivia Hussey went on to a successful career to this day...playing Mother Therese even. And several Murder She Wrotes....in any case THAT MUSIC..that SCORE has never been beat. Ever. It's the most emotionally engaging movie about it ever done. As a teenager I was in tears. Yes the Passion of the Christ focused on the realism of the Crucifixion...but for the whole narrative ill always love what this cast and crew gave us in the 70s with no tech. It still stands. My fondest memory growing up watching at Easter time...along with ten Commandments and The Robe

@@srichey444 2 years ago in our church i was covering up our music equipment, my foot got wrapped up in a cover used to covered up the music equipment I tripped, hit my head on a marble slab, hit my shoulder and blow my knee out after x-rays in the hospital I had told the muscle off the bone stretch my ligament make up my rotator cuff and sewed my knee up with no anesthesia Jesus took all my pain away after the surgery. I came back in two weeks, x-rayed again, and the doctor couldn’t believe my muscle had done reattached it self took a bone tendon was healed, and my shoulder is almost healed up, every time I tell my story, I glorify the Lord

I think my problem is that every time I've tried to open my heart to this, my life is still my life. Some things you just can't escape from. Mentally or physically. So when life sucks as bad as it does and when others around you treat you so badly, it's just hard. I didn't have the worse life in the world, but ever since childhood ...things have been bad for me. I remember watching this epic TV series way back in 1977 when it was first shown. I've seen many versions of this - but there was something very moving about this particular one - I cried so much. It was also a different time and era, when the hearts of people of the previous generation were more receptive to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Robert Powell who starred in the role gave an interview and said, that it changed his life. He was never the same. Every year I watch this film. One of the things I liked about the movie, particularly when Robert Powell was playing the role of Jesus doing the miracles, the camera would zoom in on his eyes and capture the moments - the eyes spoke alot - nobody else could have played that role, in fact none since then. I was 7yrs old when I saw this film and didn't know the real significance of it back then, but what I do know is I felt the pain of what Jesus had to go through particularly the grim flogging scenes and his crucifixion. I cried and cried, and as I got older this film has stayed with me and I'm now in my 50's. The whole film is enchantingly real.

My favourite movie portrayal of Jesus. Growing up, my mother loved this version the best, so it was seen in our home often after it's release. When my father passed, she bought a BETAMAX player, and this, as well as The Robe and The 10 Commandments, were purchased for her random viewing pleasure. Movies for home use were very expensive back then. Decades later, I wish I could ask her why, even though we weren't a church going family, she had such a fixation on these iconic, and very religious, films. Sadly she passed in 1997. I feel the heart of Jesus in this film. I could not watch the beatings prior to crusifiction....I had to close my eyes and turn the volume down. Truly a beautiful film.

The Quran is the last book, from the same God. It’s not a different God. It’s the Almighty God. So why do you have different religions today? It’s because people sometimes change the message. Sometimes they lost the message. Sometimes out of excessive love. The Christians singing : “Jesus loves you”. I say to them : “God loves Jesus”, and they can’t answer that. If they agree with me, then Islam is true, Jesus is not God. If they disagree then huh? God doesn’t loves Jesus? Doesn’t sound very Christian. God loves Jesus and all of the prophets. So the problem was once Jesus left the earth. People loved Jesus so much, they say he was such a great guy. He didn’t even have a father. He must be the son of God. 325 years later Christianity was created under the Roman Empire. That’s where it comes from Roman Catholic religion, and the Treaty of Nicaea. They said Jesus is not only the son of God, but actually God himself. Doesn’t make sense. It’s totally illogical and it’s totally inconsistent with the Bible. That certainly is inconsistent with the teachings of Jesus in the Bible. It might be consistent with St. Paul in the Bible, but not consistent with Jesus in the Bible. The trinity that Christianity believe in, is not consistent with Jesus in the Bible. Yes it’s consistent with St. Paul in the Bible, in his letters to the Romans, Colossians, Cointhians, Galatians etc. Yes it’s consistent to St. Paul, but not consistent with Jesus in the Bible. So if you follow Jesus, (dont follow St. Paul), if you follow Jesus, would you be a Christian? Would you end up being a Christian? I’m sorry you wouldn’t. If you follow ONLY Jesus in the bible, you’d end up being a Muslim. Because firstly you wouldn’t believe in the Trinity. Jesus didn’t say Trinity. There is no word ‘trinity’ in the Bible. In fact there is the word trinity in the Quran, because in the Quran God says: Don’t say trinity. God is one. In the Bible there is no word trinity. Christianity teaches Jesus died for our sins. Jesus didn’t say this. In fact, he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane to be saved from crucifixion, and when the Romans came to kill him, his followers tried to save Jesus. Whereas, they should have said to him “ Jesus please hurry up and die. The quicker you die, the quicker we have salvation”. Because every man wants salvation. And if Jesus come to die for our sins that is genuine and is true, you would say to him, “look i’m sorry yes it is painfull for you Jesus I agree your doing a great thing you are a great guy. But please hurry up and die”. You definitely don’t want to save him. But the disciples was trying to save him, and Jesus went hiding. And he’s praying to be saved doesn’t make sense. He would have said : “I am God pray to me. I am part of a trinity”. But he doesn’t say that. In fact he didn’t even allow people to call him good. Luke : 18:18 “Good teacher, what must I do inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered : “Why do you call me good?“No one is Good except God alone”. He didn’t allow people to call him good, and today Christianity saying Jesus is God. It doesn’t make sense.

When I was younger around the age 10 or 11 years old I used his name in vain a lot and that is something that I deeply regret to this very day. Whenever I hear someone say his name in the wrong way then I correct them and often tell them not to say it because nobody should use our God's name like that and sometimes instead of me saying it I say usually dag nabbit or dad gummit and sometimes gosh darn it but it's not the same as using it the other way. It really bothers me when someone misuses his name in any way. Also, that's one of the Ten Commandments and we should all follow it. :)

I don't care how many movies they make with some actor portraying Jesus, none of them are, or ever will be, even close to this Jesus! The man who portrayed Him, is just a man, but God ordained him to play the role, because he was the image of Jesus! I was saved when I was 6 years old, and when I saw this movie, I recognized Jesus! It is what He looked like and had His mannerisms, authority, and uniqueness! No one will ever convince me otherwise. The Lord has done great things for me and I've even stood inside His tomb...the real tomb in Jerusalem. There are no bones or burial clothes, just an empty tomb to show that our Savior LIVES! Praise His Holy NAME! Caiaphas: "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Living God?" Jesus: "I AM!"

Just find a quiet place with no distractions and simply ask God to reveal himself to you, he will, but with everyone it's in a different way. Sometimes they lost the message. Sometimes out of excessive love. The Christians singing : “Jesus loves you”. I say to them : “God loves Jesus”, and they can’t answer that. If they agree with me, then Islam is true, Jesus is not God. If they disagree then huh? God doesn’t loves Jesus? Doesn’t sound very Christian. God loves Jesus and all of the prophets. So the problem was once Jesus left the earth. People loved Jesus so much, they say he was such a great guy. He didn’t even have a father. He must be the son of God. 325 years later Christianity was created under the Roman Empire. That’s where it comes from Roman Catholic religion, and the Treaty of Nicaea. They said Jesus is not only the son of God, but actually God himself. Doesn’t make sense. It’s totally illogical and it’s totally inconsistent with the Bible. That certainly is inconsistent with the teachings of Jesus in the Bible. It might be consistent with St. Paul in the Bible, but not consistent with Jesus in the Bible. The trinity that Christianity believe in, is not consistent with Jesus in the Bible. Yes it’s consistent with St. Paul in the Bible, in his letters to the Romans, Colossians, Cointhians, Galatians etc. Yes it’s consistent to St. Paul, but not consistent with Jesus in the Bible. So if you follow Jesus, (dont follow St. Paul), if you follow Jesus, would you be a Christian? Would you end up being a Christian? I’m sorry you wouldn’t. If you follow ONLY Jesus in the bible, you’d end up being a Muslim. Because firstly you wouldn’t believe in the Trinity. Jesus didn’t say Trinity. There is no word ‘trinity’ in the Bible. In fact there is the word trinity in the Quran, because in the Quran God says: Don’t say trinity. God is one. In the Bible there is no word trinity. Christianity teaches Jesus died for our sins. Jesus didn’t say this. In fact, he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane to be saved from crucifixion, and when the Romans came to kill him, his followers tried to save Jesus. Whereas, they should have said to him “ Jesus please hurry up and die. The quicker you die, the quicker we have salvation”. Because every man wants salvation. And if Jesus come to die for our sins that is genuine and is true, you would say to him, “look i’m sorry yes it is painfull for you Jesus I agree your doing a great thing you are a great guy. But please hurry up and die”. You definitely don’t want to save him. But the disciples was trying to save him, and Jesus went hiding. And he’s praying to be saved doesn’t make sense. He would have said : “I am God pray to me. I am part of a trinity”. But he doesn’t say that. In fact he didn’t even allow people to call him good. Luke : 18:18 “Good teacher, what must I do inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered : “Why do you call me good?“No one is Good except God alone”. He didn’t allow people to call him good, and today Christianity saying Jesus is God. It doesn’t make sense.

My late grandma always showed me this movie. Probably when I was like 8. I don't remember the first time. Every time I would visit I would watch it. It is my favorite movie and reminds me of my saint of a grandmother who had 9 kids, and took in 15 foster kids on the side, who sold her house, and spent the rest of her life in service to God before passing due to a heart attack.
