Jesus the Good Shepherd, Part 2: Relationships (John 10:14-16) In John 10:14-16, Jesus again declares himself the Good Shepherd in intimacy with the Father and the sheep, evidenced by sacrifice and unity.
00:00-00:45 Introduction
00:45-17:27 Intimacy in relationship
17:27-32:40 Intimacy in selfless sacrifice
32:40-40:06 Intimacy in unity
Intimacy in relationship = We know each other: Good Shepherd and sheep know each other (John 10:14 “I am the good shepherd, and I know My own, and My own know Me”)
5 Stages of Relationships (with Jesus, spouse, friends):
1. Honeymoon Stage: beginning, surface, best view, rose-colored-glasses
2. Uncertainty Stage: first few years, rose-colored-glasses come off, uncover flaws, question deeper issues of the connection, evaluating if it is right for you
3. Adjustment Stage: after the first few years, deeper connection, accepting differencing, expanding the view and connection, compromise and growth
4. Commitment Stage: several years of experience, eyes wide open, bonded through safety and confidence, stability
5. Acceptance Stage: later years, gratefulness amongst the intimacy with deeper roots of personal revelation and experience, good and bad times firm up the personal relationship
Is your relationship with Jesus intimate, passion, deep?
Intimacy in selfless sacrifice = We know each other: Father and Son know each other; thus, He sacrifices Himself for sheep (John 10:15 “just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.”)
Our living sacrifice (Romans 12:1-2) [5 Applications of Our Living Sacrifice]
1. Living sacrifice as worship, natural response to salvation
2. Renewed mind, transformation of thinking, attitudes, ideals, motivation
3. Don’t conform to the world or culture
4. Discern God’s Will, testing and approving and serving God’s plan
5. Serve as a testimony before others, drawing them to seek God
Are you a living sacrifice in Jesus Christ?
Intimacy in unity = We will know each other: two flocks will become one, Jews and Gentiles (John 10:16 “And I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will listen to My voice; and they will become one flock, with one shepherd.”)
