To Dave 4248 Why should? Or how can Easter and Passover coincide? Passover date I based on a lunar calendar whilst Easter is based on Solar or lunar solar as Easter day is the First Sunday after the full Moon after the 21st of March. The moon is circling the earth whilst they both circle the sun. So how can they coincide every time precisely? The orbits (I read it in a book (too big to see my self)) are of an ellipse not a precise circle (yearly) so they vary in their relative positions.

About Mithras' titles, wasn't he considered the god of light? So wouldn't "The Light" actually be appliccable as one of his titles? It would still be too general to parallel Christ, but I thought that was worth bringing up nonetheless.

From what i understand, many looked at him as the sun god, depending on what religion you were in. That is different than what Christians meant that God is light. God was not a physical light in the sky.

Never read the book by Atwill (first time I've heard of it, actually), but speaking about Caesar it'd be interesting for you to address the parallels between them (the virgin birth, the son of god, "the ruler and savior who would bring world peace," etc.) as written by Virgil. I've heard many say that the divinity and high Christology of Christ was borrowed from the pagan beliefs about the Caesars and that it was impossible for a first century Jew to say that he was the incarnate manifestation of YHWH (Much how modern Christians would never claim to be God either, and if they did would have bad theology). I've found the arguments by N.T. Wright and others about Isaiah 40/Malachi 3/Ezekiel 34 and the return of YHWH to Zion as interesting arguments for the very Jewish belief of Jesus of Nazereth being called to a vocation of doing what God himself could only do, especially as Mark specifically introduces Jesus as the one for whom John the Baptist prepared the way for, the one the Old Testament refers to as YHWH or Lord. I'd be very interested to see a video addressing the parallels between Caesar and Christ.

That's as ridiculous as not listening to someone because they called christ "jesus" instead of iyesus. Different cultures pronounce and spell words and names differently. Every dictionary and most scholarly work in the west spell the name as "mithra" not "mithras". Sounds like your brother is making excuses because he's wrong.

This is supported by the fact that Zoroaster did not mention Mithra was because in fact in the earliest Avestan writings both Mihr-Mithra and the Armenian Matron Goddess Anahit are condemned as “daevas” or “false gods” or “daemons” that were not to be worshiped....t was only in the fourth century BCE, when we for the first time find the mentioning of Mithras in the Iranian context as a “positive’ deity of the very radiance of the Sun in the inscriptions of the Achaemenid king Xerxes II Mnemon. The Religion of Mithras or Mithraism as it became known in the West would soon spread beyond borders of Armenia, not only towards the East, towards Iran and India, but also that of the West. Just from knowing the little that I do about Mithras, I knew the mythicist angle was dubious. First an important figure in a major Persian religion, then a popular Roman cult very loosely based on the former, and a mystery cult no less; basically a cherry picker's dream. In a good faith comparison, you would only consider the Roman cult, and at the very least exclude the speculations that postdate classical antiquity, but it appears they did not do that.

If you're savvy enough to do this research, I know that you're referring to one of 3 dates associated with pagan Christmas: The date set by Constantine at the Council of Naicea, Sol Invictus or Saturnalia celebrations, or the date set for Tammuz's birth. A biblical facts "teacher" referred to Mithraism and I think he was trying to be subtil and cast doubt upon Christianity. He didn't come out and say they were the same, but he alludes to it. Mihr was the personification of the Illuminating Rays of the Sun. The earliest mentioning of the worship of Mithra has been recorded in the Armenian Kingdom of Hurri-Mitanni. This is supported by the fact that Zoroaster did not mention Mithra was because in fact in the earliest Avestan writings both Mihr-Mithra and the Armenian Matron Goddess Anahit are condemned as “daevas” or “false gods” or “daemons” that were not to be worshiped....t was only in the fourth century BCE, when we for the first time find the mentioning of Mithras in the Iranian context as a “positive’ deity of the very radiance of the Sun in the inscriptions of the Achaemenid king Xerxes II Mnemon.
