There is no good evidence to suggest Jesus is similar to Romulus.

You did a wonderful job, I am a Christian and I watch an episode of (mythvision podcast) and the theologian mention that it was the reading of the account of the parallels of Jesus and Romulus is what causes him to deny Christianity. I remembered hearing something about this and wanted to check it out, this is how I found your channel, and this video. You did a wonderful job, I thank you for that and I will suggest this video when the topic comes up. It is sad that there are many false parallels like this that cause people to fall away; but for a theologian to fall away after reading the Romulus story, he must have been already walking away, because there is no comparison to Jesus in the Romulus story. Again, well done, I am now a subscriber to your channel. God bless you

Ryan Krakinski You should be more questioning of Carrier's motives. He is not the first to make these claims. I believe he is looking to further an agenda of selfish ambition by deliberately taking a position bound to generate controversy, even though better scholars than him have come down on the side of those who accept that Jesus really existed. And you should ask yourself why would so many accept persecution and martyrdom if there is nothing to their faith?

Well, I came here after going to an atheist website listing Jesus similarities to other religious figures. I didn't quite trust it as when it comes to things like religion, very personal subjective "truths" from person to person, people tend to have a bias towards information that confirms their theories. I'm a skeptic, and I've watched a few of these videos. I noticed that a lot of this channel's videos seem to advocate Christianity, but regardless of that these videos seem to be very unbiased, and truthful, putting forth good evidence.

All he said was the story wasn't copied exactly. That they took the story and changed it to fit their already existing stories, which is to be expected. And trust me, being a Christian myself it's hard to admit this. However ignoring facts only proves that people are indoctrinated instead of learned.

Inspiring Philosophy, Exactly. I believe this agenda to be extremely stupid. I mean, after all the ages of atheist thinkers who tried to discover the earthly origin of religion, who built profound systems of thought, explaining how religion appeared, and some tried to prove that religion was the inevitable byproduct of societal evolution (Marx), some saw religion as anthopomorphic answer to the unanswerable absurdity of human solitary existence (Sartre, Camus), some thought religion to be the product or sublimation process of human psyche (Freud, Fromm), some thought religion to be the result of great struggle between the races of the strong and weak nations (Nietzsche), I repeat, after all this well-thought and solemn efforts to explain the origin of religious faith, what do we have now? 'New Atheists' who aren't even professional philosophers, some of whom are mythicists, some biologists, some physicists and all of them do not try to explain the religious phenomena at all but rather to mock them and label them as bigotry, immoralism and fraud. The 'new atheist' movement in modern USA reminds me of XIX century positivism thinkers (such as August Comte) who thought religion to be simply unscientific. But then even Comte tried to examine the question of the origin of religion seriously, without resorting to illogical and emotional statements. To put it simply I think that today's criticism of religion is able to gain popularity not only because of people's ignorance about religion, but also because of their profound ignorance in such fields of knowledge as philosophy and history of ideas. P.S. And of course, thank you again for your tremendous work, because my hope lies in God and in such people as you, who day by day fight against ignorance and for the knowledge.

@@Raiseflag_Surrender Just let me add that Nietzsche was very fond of religion, in a way, and lamented sorely that it was proven false. The issue, of course, is that it's now proven true with more certainty than ever. Nietzsche did point out many valid critiques of Christianity, but Christians have already acknowledged the issues of hypocrisy and legalism and every godless lifestyle ever justified under the pretense of Christianity a thousand times before. It seems to me he would have made for a fine Christian if he had learned from someone like WLC or Aquinas, and he might have had a better outlook on the Jewish race if he had known of someone like Eitan Bar. I think Nietzsche should be a lesson that when we fail to make our case reasonably and effectively, even those who want to believe might be discouraged from doing so. I commend greatly the work in contemporary apologetics, but I think it needs to reach much further. I think the average sort of uninterested people who call themselves Christians, but don't really seem to know anything about their religion at all, need to be drawn into a rational, proper understanding of what it means to be Christian, and exactly what sort of lifestyles Christianity prohibits. I think if we cleaned up our own house, we'd have a much easier time of bringing others into the family. Sorry if this was abit of a rant. Anyway, take care! :)

a. y That’s interesting. 100 years ago atheists claimed the universe always existed. God has said from the beginning of time that he created the heavens and the earth. You can disagree and give out any number of hypothesis for the creation of the universe, I believe Hawkins was a fan of the multiverse idea before he died and went to hell. God’s existence is self evident in what we experience and what we see. The Bible has yet to be proven wrong and has stood the test of time. Most of the great thinkers of our time have understood this. Your problem isn’t that there is no evidence of God’s existence, it’s that you don’t like the implications of being answerable to God after this life for your sins.
@ThomB50
@ThomB50 6 жыл бұрын
a. y As long as scientists continue to believe there is a natural explanation for the creation of the universe or the creation of life they will continue to be wrong. The Bible gives the answers and is consistent with what we observe of our world. You would have to name the religious book so that I can tell you why it is wrong. The fact is, if you are really interested in investigating the Bible yourself there are plenty of books that do it. Or you can try to disprove the Bible like Lee Strobel did. The fact is you have to have a whole lot more faith to be an atheist than you do to be a Christian. And no I was not raised in a Christian home. Although if you live in Europe/North America you were raised in a Christian culture.

Hello. So, what I want to do with this message is to simply show what the Gospel is. I am not trying to force my belief down people's throats. It's your choice whether you want to accept it. So, a question: Do you think you are a good person? If so, have you ever stolen anything, lied, looked lustfully, watched adult material? All of those are sins and anyone who sinned is not good(on God's standard). You, I and most( most because babies don't sin, and maybe specifically mentally Ill people) purely human beings have violated God's moral law. Since God is just, He can't let sin go just like that. So is there any hope? Yes, there is! Out of love and mercy, God became a human being, Jesus Christ. Jesus lived a sinless life and finally died on the cross to bear the punishment we deserve, we deserve to be punished because we have sinned. The reason why blood must be spilled for forgiveness of sins is because the life of the flesh is in the blood, in the Old Testament Jews sacrificed animals for sins but the sacrifice of animals were enough to temporarily cover some sins. (it did not allow forgiveness of sins, Unlike Jesus's, it only temporarily covered them). Jesus is the Lamb of God, the ultimate sacrifice for sins which is enough for all sins that have been done, are done and will be done. Jesus was buried and rose again. His resurrection proved that His death was enough to pay our penalty, the penalty for our sins. Jesus paid our penalty and in order to accept the free gift of salvation from God, we must trust in Jesus's spilled Blood, His finished work on the Cross for our Salvation. And then your sins will be forgiven because of what Christ did, you will be saved. See: Romans 3:10 KJV, Romans 3:23 KJV, Romans 5:12 KJV, Romans 6:23 KJV, Romans 5:8-9 KJV Romans 10:9-10 KJV, Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV, John 3:16 KJV, Leviticus 17:11 KJV, Ephesians 1:7 KJV, Colossians 1:20 KJV, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV. kzbin.info/www/bejne/opPFZautjs9kb8k Evidence for God's existence: Kalam Cosmological argument, Contigency argument, Modal ontological argument. Regarding Christianity watch InspiringPhilosophy's videos about the Ressurection of Jesus reliability of NT. Together, they show good evidence that Christianity is true.

I just watched Cosmic skeptic's video on the resurrection, the one where he debates Jonathan McLatchie. I am not a linguist, I'm not sure about this, but a simple Google and wikipedia search reveals that Cleopas means "Glory to the father", being a short version of Cleopatros(male of Cleopatra). While Proculus could either mean "Born when the father is abroad" or it could mean "suitor" or "prince". Either way they don't seem to mean the same thing, they could be similar at best. I respect Alex but It seems he pulled this one out of nowhere, I could be wrong though. P.S. I looked at Plutarch's story about Romulus, it says this: "Some even to the present day derive their names from the circumstances of their birth, as for instance a child is named Proculus if his father be abroad when he is born, and Postumus if he be dead"

Inspiringphilosophy Can your next video be about the Existence of Moses. This seems like a common theme. From what I know, any archeological evidence would be next to impossible to find for various reasons. And the Egyptians never recorded embarrassing details in their hieroglyphs. So what evidence to we have that Moses wasn't a fictional character created at a later date, and/or evidence that he wrote the Torah apart from the text itself.

As things stand, it’s impossible to place Moses in history, but the Egyptian chronology is clearly flawed. Mainstream archaeology won’t revise the timeline because academics are jealously protecting their reputations. See David Rohl for a case for an historical Moses.

Emery Thrash until something like 1830, there was a group of people called the Hitites which we only knew about from the Bible. Scholars believed this was a mistake until they actually discovered conclusive evidence of their existence. The Bible is allowed to be the sole documentation, especially when there’s good reason for other cultures not to document it. Not to mention, a group of wandering Jews would not leave the proper archeological evidence that would last 3000-4000 years

_"Thereafter, having given them commission to preach the gospel through the world, He was encompassed with a cloud and taken up to heaven, - a fact more certain far than the assertions of your Proculi concerning Romulus."_ - Tertullian, Apology 21.23 Tertullian saw a similarity between the ascension of Romulus and Jesus. Otherwise, why mention Romulus at all in this context? Tertullian's comparison works only if Romulus ascended bodily. Of course, he asserts the ascension of Jesus was more certain but unfortunately gives no evidence for that claim. _"Father Romulus himself, who was torn in pieces by the hands of a hundred senators....do you not affirm that he has ascended into heaven?"_ - Arnobius, Against the Heathen 6.1.41 Arnobius indicates he died and ascended to heaven.

You obviously never listen to Carrier's lectures or read his books. He has consistently stated that he places the history of Jesus in probability context. Never has he started there definitively was no Jesus. He goes out of his way to make his position abundantly clear. Plus there are numerous other resurected savior dieties he uses to make his point, not just Romulus. Ignoring this a complete misrepresentation of Carrier's work. This is purposely dishonest. I thought Christians weren't supposed to bear false witness.

I hope somebody will answer to my question : if this parallels made by mythicists are so absurd, how can they be able to come up with arguments that are grounded in the very same document, where according to us Christian, those similarities can't be found in any way? I mean, if it is so obviously made up where do they find the evidences to formulate their arguments? Why the are the opinion so divergent on such allegedly " obvious " fact like the life of Jesus. If it is that obvious what it is matter for a debate? Let's take the life of Alexander the great : nobody would doubt that there was such a man who walked the earth right? The scholars may disagree whether certain events or not took place in his life, but nobody would go as far as claiming that He wasn't even real. Therefore, why if the Life of Jesus is so grounded In History (and I believe it is), is there even a minority of scholars who denies this very fact??

Sons of God in early Christian context meant the kings of Israel, the meaning you are applying came later under the Roman/Byzantine reformed Christianity, Romans of the Hellenistic side. It is the same reason why the earliest new testament scriptures were written in Greek and not in Aramean, because it was commissioned by the noble and not the orthodox Jews. Noble Jews were more Hellenistic, which is a term that was created by orthodox Jews to explain the invasion of Greek culture into theirs. That is why there are so many Greek icons in Christianity, like Hades(God) becoming the function of satan(Hebrew function of the accuser of God), or sheol becoming Hades(place) then hell(from the Germanic influence of the Holy Christian Empire Hel of the Godess Helheim). The only son of God as an entity that Jewish people knew and rejected was Bel or Ba'al the son of El, one of the name for Ashem (Elijah means El is Yahweh). Bel or Ba'al which both means lord in multiple language and in Hebrew is the same reason we say the lamb of God and the Lord Savior and it is closely related to Tammuz Hebrew month and Babylonian deity, the suffering shepherd king that brings a golden age. He was associated with the Agrarian worker constellation which became Aries under the Greeks, BELier in french. John even warned us against this agrarian worker. Matthew 3:12 "His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

I think that to deny any similarity between the two would be incorrect. Luke does draw similarities between Christ and John the Baptist and Romulus and Remus. The Emperor Constantine also did the same and comissioned a coin depicting Romulus and Remus only a few years after the council of Nicaea. How would you spread the Gospel to pagans who have not yet heard? To adapt the local mythology and emphasize the portions that correlate to Christian theology is only proper.

I take it, you're not a huge Richard Carrier fan. I think he's Great. He's Proposed some very interesting and provocative theories. Bear in mind, Carrier never suggested that Jesus was based on any particular Dying and Rising Deity or confluence of various Deities. He postulates that since Esoteric, Clandestine Mystery Schools were quite popular around the time of Jesus, the character was conjured up as a sort of Dying and Rising God in what was effectively A Jewish Mystery School... Exclusively composed of Gentiles, though, because Jews were never keen on the Mystery School phenomenon. Remember, though. These 'Mystery Schools' all feature Theology and Doctrines that deviate from The Esoteric or Conventional \ Traditional Theology. That being said, Plutarch's commentary and all the others like Virgil and Ovid are irrelevant. They only provide insight on The Esoteric or 'Mainstream Theology of The Common folk'. If you want to gain a conception, do what I did... I joined The Rosicrucrucian Order... The only issue is that I haven't been active in many, many years. You'll never learn anything about Esoteric, Initiatiatic Orders by studying Mainstream Literature. I obviously can't say whether Carrier's theory holds scrutiny. I'll have to start studying again, and then I can arrive at an 'informed conclusion'. It's certainly 'possible'.

It would be highly appropriate to base your analysis on the sound historical method advocated by Carrier in his book, Proving History. That would require weighing the evidence according to probability assumptions that you state and explain upfront. Then everybody can decide if they agree with your assumptions and your reasoning, or not. History is a matter of grounded probabilities, not black or white all or nothing assertions.

When we google MAN GOD in history, Jesus is on number 11. He is mentioned as Roman’s Man God. Jesus (Issa ) was a Jewish rabbi, He lived as a monotheist Jew and preached for worshiping God the father only, after He left this earth Paul aka soul of tarsus (sent and assigned by Roman Empire ) started making lies to the people that Jesus appeared to him and made him his apostle. The disciples of Jesus did not believe the lies of Paul and they Called Paul a Liar 🤥 (book of acts 21:21 tells us some story) so one by one the disciples of Jesus were put on roman cross (9 out of 11 disciples) and were killed , Except Paul who had Roman support to spread the lies and convert Jews and gentiles to polytheism (multiple God) till paul became a treat to Roman Empire (all christians started seeing Paul as their only authority but not Roman emperor ) also at that time romans did not need Paul anymore. So romans beheaded Paul too. Ramon’s made Jesus God and destroyed his teachings of monotheism by replacing it polytheism (trinity). Monotheism was a big treat to pig eaters romans But not trinity because this was their concept of God. Romans re-wrote and replaced the history about the disciples of Jesus by wiping out everything from James the brother of Jesus and other disciples. Prof Robert Eisenman has a book and KZbin videos with proofs. Check it out.
