really amazing, i think i heard this version at least 1000 times now and i can't get enough of it. I also like Herbie being so authentic when he is playing this. When he does a mistake, he does not try to hide it or "overplay" it, he just stops and starts with a new idea :D So for example at 2:30 he kinda loses his idea or what he wanted to play, so he stops and he just really looks like he was thinking "ah damn" :D And his face when playing some scales or other lines is unique :D

Best jazz fusion ever...I am amazed with every individual here, how good they are. Ten years ago I would've say no way that one person can improvise like this, because this must be prepared, Pat must practiced years for this moment, but today i know that some persons are just to god and they can play what ever they want on instrument, yeah he certainly practiced years&years, but this moment was pure improvisation, and it was perfect. I guess you can say it's just god given gift or else, something like power to momentary transfer imagination into instrument.

Thanks again and yes, that IS Pat Metheny. And what he is playing is a Roland G-300 guitar which is a controller for the Roland GR-300 guitar synthesizer. It looks like the guitar has been customized with a control panel to run the synth presets without having to go to the floor. Interesting setup.

Not modified. The original design of the Roland guitar synth was first an entire guitar with the system retrofitted to it. The pickups came later.

I think they wouldn’t like it because the people that were born before Jazz often didn’t like jazz because it was so different. Just like parents today don’t like the music their children listen to, although I totally agree with them.

This is one of THEE coolest renditions of Herbie's hit "Cantelope Island" I've ever heard (and there are A LOT of them)! Herbie's solo is, as Buddy Guy says, "So funky, I can smell it!"
