I am a percussionist and i am 70 years old . This set is one of the best performances i have ever witnessed . Over and above the great musicians , the sound is great , the audience is just as in love with the musicians as they are with the audience . The energy in the venue is off the chart . Yes, there were so many great performances in Japan, but also in Europe, specially France. Here in the US, where jazz was born, we've been lucky, too, but for several decades many of the greatest performances were not here. Man I love these guys-- four All Star International jazz musicians- playing right dead in the pocket- I had the pleasure of seeing Wayne perform live--several times back in the 1980s-one performance at the Greek Theater in Berkeley Ca-in 1981-- with weather report from the look of their dress-- and their youthful faces- I guess this concert was performed late 1980s early 90s? if anyone knows the date of the performance-- let me know- it's a great pleasure to see these Elder Statesmen of Jazz-- performing in earlier times still at the top of their game 🎵

Yep, this is insanely good and inspired, a perfect chunk of live playing at its finest. Great venue, wonderful audience - and these four great jazz cats playing off each other. I've watched this clip dozens of times since I first found it around eight years ago, and have been a big fan of Stanley Clarke since the age of ten or so. :) It doesn't get any better than this, guys... :) Only down note is that they didn't get to play a full gig by themselves, or even better record a live album - they were allotted the opening slot of this multi-act gig in Japan in 1991 and knew they had just 15-20 minutes to play, so they decided to do just one cut and with flying colours. :)
