Saw a tour show of this amazing musical last night and it's honestly one of the best things I've EVER seen. Hearing the introduction of this song in a live setting really did a number on me... I got teary-eyed and it sent chills everywhere. It's a pivotal moment for the entire show, and one of my favorite things ever in Broadway history... so it was amazing to say the least

Actually, two of the lyrics in this opera , "Jesus Christ Superstar, do you think you are what they say you are?" ...and also asked: "Jesus Christ ...who are you?" are the foundation of this opera.. The Jews in His day asked the very same questions , albeit with a much different push for truth. While the script in the Rock Opera got many insinuations wrong, on this point of who Jesus said He is, when you investigate Jesus claims on Who He says He is, that is what matters, Turn to Matthew 16: 13-16 and to John 10: 23-33 and you have almost the same wording and the same intent by the Jews when they questioned Jesus on who He claimed to be. Jesus asked his disciples : "Who do men say that I am?" and "Who do you say that I am?" Peter gave the right answer (Matthew 16) To rephrase: "Jesus Christ Superstar, are you really who you say you are". Is found within John 10: 23-33, He was asked " If you are the Christ, tell us plainly" To which Jesus did...... and when He concluded and said "I and my father are one" meaning of the same nature...He is God . The Jews took up stones to stone Him to death for blasphemy . When Jesus asked : "Many good works I have showed you from my Father, for which of those works do you stone me?" The Jews answered: " for a good work we stone thee not but for blasphemy and because that you, being a man , make thyself GOD. ! If you go back to Johns Gospel, chapter 8, it is where Jesus makes clear that He is indeed very Jehovah God that talked to Moses on Mount Sinai, He also said you will die in your sin (of unbelief) if you dont believe is the I AM.
