I genuinely don't believe she's a bad person as some people make her out to be. I think she's just dismissive to other people's issues because she feels like her situation is worse. That's why when they asked her about leigh in that interview she said" she handled it better than me", but it felt as though she was saying" leighanne's situation wasn't as bad as mine.

@@baddiechanny4893 Cause it wasn't, period. People barely bullied Leigh-Anne, they just didn't praise her as much or pay as much attention to her. Jesy got bullied, made fun of, got death threats and got treated like shit before they even became famous, and it ended up with her attempting to take her own life. Think about it, I think Leigh-Anne had it much easier than Jesy. She never got compared to the others, she got nothing but praise when she got attention but with Jesy, she was brought down for the SMALLEST mistakes.

@@tjsquibbofficial ok let's not compare experiences here, it's not a competition. But it is important to point out that Leigh anne managed to rise above the hate while Jesy couldn't and let it get to her mind. And the fact that people are now using the situation to justify their hatred towards her is honestly just making it even worse, considering the entire fandom has turned against her now.

Perrie probably wasn’t in the documentary bc she probably didn’t feel like it was her place to put herself in the conversation, but she did show support and continues to show support and love to Leigh. Jesy, however, was silent after Leigh’s documentary came out. Perrie posted about Leigh’s documentary on her IG stories, and she always talks about how much she loves Leigh. Jesy didn’t say a word about Leigh’s documentary.

Nicki was such a disappointment to insert herself and slander Leigh Anne of all people. Leigh Anne is harmless. She made promises to black girls she spoke with in her documentary that she would be proactive on black issues in the industry. Jesy all love to her, but she chose to ignore those concerns. She chose to be ignorant to make herself feel more comfortable. Understand that her weight is a big issue and tanning makes her feel confident, but she can still make slight adjustments in respects to understand other people's traumas outside of her own.
@bdhu2001
@bdhu2001 2 жыл бұрын
The problem is that people warned Jesy and told her she was tanning too dark and other things. She ignored the both ethnic girls on Lil Mix and others deciding that she didn’t mean it that way so it shouldn’t hurt other people. They told her how it came off and how it hurt some people. Jesy admits people talked to her, so there is no reason for her to act surprised or like it potential for backlash wasn’t known.

Loved this! As a white man, I'm learning new stuff every single day about this and it's amazing to see your two's reaction and response to this. All I know is that Leigh seems like one of the most kind and beautiful women in that industry (not my words - just various chatter from people who HAVE met her & you can TOTALLY get that vibe from watching interviews and shows with her on) and in regards to her documentary and why Perrie and Jesy didn't feature, I feel that it was a conscious decision not to include them as Leigh wanted to put the light on as many black people as she could. I think the documentary and Leigh delving more into it is what gave her the confidence to talk to Jesy about what was (clearly) getting to her. How Jesy responded is on Jesy, but I hope Leigh knows that she absolutely did the right thing in calling her out. Honestly, the most upsetting thing about all of this is Jesy's lack of reaction and empathy/compassion to it all. Going on InstaGram and blocking/deleting comments from anybody calling her out on it was NOT it. She was aware via NUMEROUS ways, but chose to ignore it and was just ignorant about the entire thing.

I'm thinking the messages from Leigh were fake, but if it is real, it was done as a private message, not publicly trying to hurt Jesy. What Jesy did, laughing along when Nicki slated Leigh, live, in front of 100k viewers, made her look both bad and fake. She did a documentary about how damaging online bullying is, yet is happy to laugh along to somebody else being bullied. Doesn't paint her in a good light at all. I just want to also say that I don't condone anyone sending or posting vile messages to either Jesy or LM. It's one thing to have a say, but what people are doing is wrong and it's sick. Get a life and let the girls either sort things out or stay out of each others way for a bit. There is never a good enough reason for bullying.

i just really loved the way you talked about this situation, you just have a really calm and collected approach to everything and try to focus on the real issue. Especially since the livestream my feelings were just all over the place. I mean i can`t deny that Jesy still means something to me since I am a longtime Little Mix fan but this whole situation was just a nono. I am so disappointed and also angry .. but i don`t hate her? even if it`s silly i still hope for her to see what she did wrong and apologize ... and seeing her getting bullied in the internet still hurts even after she`s clearly in the wrong. Leigh DEFINITELY deserves an apology. The next steps, like you said, are really going to define Jesy as a person. But to be honest this whole thing is just sad. We definitley do need to have this conservation since blackfishing is SO common right now and even though there is some critique nothing really changed? it`s a huge problem that i feel like many people don`t really see as such and don`t really understand? maybe at least since this Jesy conversation blew up so much we`re finally gonna have more conversations about blackfishing and what needs to change. i just hope all this wasn`t for nothing and people didn`t just jump on the train of hating a celebrity that`s trending right now. and i agree with you even though we are greatly disappointed in Jesy the main focus should be to try to educate her and start a conversation about blackfishing. but she also needs to put in A LOT of effort educating herself and trying to grow. also hope the other 3 especially Leigh-Anne are okay .... they didn´t have to be dragged in like this .... so thank you for your video

I honestly lost a lot of respect for Jesy with this situation. I won’t be supporting her future music, even if she gives a last minute apology. She’s doubled down on her ignorance, instead of listening and apologizing as soon as the black community informed her why what she’s doing is wrong. Despite all that, turning your back on 3 women who grew up with you in this group just shows that Jesy doesn’t have much loyalty or very great morals. Nicki is also showing herself as a bully who changes her morals based on what song she’s selling. That’s all.

Unfortunately, it's very obvious with Jesy. It comes across as her going out of her way to look and come across as black. It's very uncomfortable to see her like that. Like Dave said in his song Black "Black is so confusin', 'cause the culture? They're in love with it They take our features when they want and have their fun with it Never seem to help with all the things we know would come with it" It feels like these people get the fame and attention from looking black, without actually living as a black person and having to deal with what comes with it (Racism etc). She’s so self absorbed that the times people called her out she blocks them and still trying to lie saying she had no idea people said that about her. And Nicki fans out here acting a fool putting pics of Leigh Ann hanging from a tree and saying put her in the jungle with bananas. That is the behavior nicki approved for her fans to act when she targeted Leigh Ann for no reason. Lost all respect for jesy and Nicki. Nicki needs to focus on her man and keeping him out of prison. Jesy just needs to realize that being influenced by that genre of music doesn’t mean you are allowed change your appearance to fit the culture. She’s a mess honestly.

I think being inspired & appreciating black culture is a beautiful thing, but there's a very fine line that should not be crossed. I get it, Jesy's hair is naturally like that, she got her lips done because she felt ugly & wanted to fit into LM (whether that's true or not) etc, but she does overstep the mark too much. She over tans, it's just extra, unneeded & clear blackfishing, whether it's done with intent or not. It's an issue & when it comes to people addressing you on the problem, you have to accept that, not dismiss it as "that's just me". When it comes to the video, it is cultural appropriation. I mean almost everyone in the video is black, which wouldn't be a problem any other time but, there's far too much black culture in the video, which just adds to the cultural appropriation & blackfishing she is accused of. I mean, the grills? Her whole aesthetic is not what a white woman should be representing themselves as. I do find a lot of male toxicity in the video also. There is so much to cover here that I just can't type it all, but this is such a healthy discussion to have. I for one am always educating myself. I want to always be educated on the issues that the black community has, I want to better understand your history, the trauma y'all deal with, the problems you face in day-to-day life. I will never fully understand, in the sense that, I have not & will never experience what it feels like to be someone of colour, specifically black in regards to this topic. But I can have understanding, I can educate others, I can see within myself if there's things I need to change or do to help, etc. Anyway, I'll stop there. Great video, always enjoy your content & yeah, do some more video's where you discuss various topics, especially topics that are closer to home for you guys. ❤

I think she wanted to use the most popular way to break into the U.S market so she did what alot of people do (black fishers) and used black culture but the stereotypical bullshit and Nicki and a nostalgic piece of music - Diddy to get into the US market. When I really focused on Jesy's tan was Sweet Melody like I was kinda shocked then of course her solo song. Girls I'm still on how she could ruin 10+ years of friendship over nothing. Not even a good start to her solo career to show for it.

Love that you both decided to talk about this. You's do the best Little Mix reactions for me. There's so many layers to this that started way before Jesy. But just to give a short intro, tanning in the UK, specifically certain pockets of the country, has been a problem for the longest time - even when I was younger! Society has basically told white girls and women that they look 'healthier' and 'slimmer' and 'better' with a tan, and it's only progressively gotten worse over the years. And then throw in the 'Instagram face' into the mix, and all of a sudden you've got girls and women literally constructing their entire face and they all pretty much look the same i.e. looking racially ambiguous and could be from anywhere in the world. It's a big problem and it desperately needs nipping in the bud. Enter Jesy - from day dot she's been dragged through the mill for how she looks. She's been slated over and over again whether it's online or in the media from a young age, so the fact that she's turned to the lip injections and the tanning bed doesn't shock me. I don't like how much she's changed, but I understand how she got there. She's clearly seen what the trend is around her and has emulated that to try and fit in. That doesn't mean it's right and Leigh Anne had every reason to be upset and bring it up to her. I just don't think this was done in malice. She's never claimed to be anything else but a white girl from Essex - I just don't think she connected the dots as to how she's been presenting herself. And what's worse, I think her management team have happily let her walk into the lions den. They must have known how this would turn out; I refuse to believe that they're this naive. I think there's a few different conversations that everyone should be having in regards to this. 1. The conversation of excessive tanning for beauty standards and how that's made black women feel because on the flip side, dark skinned women in the industry have been told to bleach their skin. That can never happen again. 2. The conversation of excessive tanning and why white women feel like they need to do it and hopefully come to the realisation that they don't need to do it at all. 3. Stamp on the face of the Instagram face, because the last thing anyone wants are their daughters looking at these faces and thinking that they're only going to be beautiful if they look like that. I really hope the girls can eventually sit down and talk this out privately without anyone else butting in and understand and find peace with each other. I'd hate it if this progresses negatively between them.

The sad thing is many of us have said exactly what you have (just not as well 😂) but unfortunately a lot of poc on these videos don't want to hear or accept that white people are pressured to darken their skin, to them itsjust straight up trying to pass as mixed race. Many don't want to sympathise with girls being pressured by beauty standards. But because white in general they perceive aS being considered more beautiful they fail to realise there is a hierarchy and that's with "tanned goddesses" being at the top with pale girls being considered ugly. I've been told my entire life i NEED to tan. Been told I look sickly. Every girl in school was bronzed. But I'm white so none of these issues are taken into consideration simply because I'm white. Thankfully I've seen a few people of colour sympathise with this.

@@ariaxrose1 you sound tone deaf. You want black women or WOC to sympathize with you on something YOU can actually change if you wanted to? It’s not right that people bullied you for your paleness. But understand that black women miss out on opportunities, get targeted, discriminated against, and killed for their dark skin. Something they can’t change. I feel like you’re conflating two completely different issues and one of them is actually life or death for black women. So that’s where the problem lies. Yes bullying sucks but tanning your skin (or not) is a choice that you can make. Dark skin black women can’t wake up one day, decide they want to be as light as white women, and reap the benefits of being THE global standard of beauty. It doesn’t work like that. Black women can’t choose the tone they want to be. They’re simply born with it. They have to live with it and unfortunately in this world the darker you are as a woman, the worst you’re treated. I understand you want sympathy but ask yourself these three questions: how have you sympathized with black women and all the obstacles that they face? What issues do you take into consideration that affects black women? How have you used your privilege as a white woman to support and advocate for black women and women of color in a world that’s enamored with the white standard of beauty and vilifies blackness? (Which is a standard that was put in place by white people by the way) If you can’t come up with anything then I suggest that you take some time to educate yourself some more on the topic of racism and it’s affects on black women and WOC so you can truly understand why all this blew up in Jesy’s face and why it’s highly problematic. You can also find ways to use your power and privilege as a white woman to support and be an ally to WOC during such an important conversation - and everyday life. Long story short - White women in your community are tanning their skin to “enhance” their beauty and gain more social status. Black women who already have dark skin are at the bottom of the societal totem pole and they are discriminated against (because of said dark skin) which can result in life or death situations. White women gain as Black women suffer from black fishing. That’s the issue.

Surely Perrie and Jesy weren’t in Leanne’s documentary because they are white women? The whole point of the documentary was about giving black people or people of different ethnicities a bigger voice - so Jade was on it with being Egyptian and having similar discrimination as Leanne. But 2 white girls couldn’t talk about personal experiences so there was no need for them to be involved? I don’t think it was a case of them not supporting her? Sorry if I misunderstood your point there. As for the rest of the video - Jesy has made a big mistake marketing/presenting herself this way for her debut single!

Ot sure what could have been done differently maybe her styling but I’m sure it wasn’t done to cause offence..I think a lot of bands artists emulate other artists as well so many the Beatles were the inspiration for Oasis in the beginning and their beat was a direct take off, there are so many to mention….Even the goddess that was Whitney Houston got booed at the Soul Train awards accusing her of ‘singing too white’..I, not defending it but acknowledging that it happens and will continue to.

Leigh-Anne responded to a story by an Instagrammer/influencer called Nohun. He did a poll on whether he should do a choreo to Boyz (he eventually did do it). The guy’s been a huge Little Mix fan for years, was followed by Leigh and Jade and has more than 300.000 followers. He’s black, British and gay. Leigh said he should do a video of Jesy being a “black phish” instead and straight up called her a “horrible person”. He made the decision to share those DMs after being in contact with Jesy. He was hurt and frustrated to be put in a position where he felt like he had to choose a side. He said that his whole experience of being a massive fan was completely ruined by what Leigh-Anne did. As he said, it was like she wanted him to do her dirty work. The idea that the DMs are fake is absolute nonsense. He shared them during a livestream AND shared two screen recordings of them, because people kept coming at him. He’s been targetted by Little Mix fans ever since, and has been visibly shaken by the negative attention from it all. Let’s be real, he risked a lot by doing what he did, and even though some might disagree with his choice to share those DMs, Leigh did what she did. It’s not right to keep perpetuating the lie that they are fake, just because Little Mix fans refuse to accept that Leigh-Anne is not perfect. She is exactly as human as all the rest of us. Regarding Nicki and Jesy, THIS was what it was ALL about. THIS was the behaviour of Leigh-Anne that Nicki called out.

I don't think Diddy himself would have cosigned and participated in the video, if he thought Jesy was just trying to appropriate culture. Jesy just left Little Mix and has had her skin and make up look exactly the same in Little Mix music videos. The only variation I observed was the rooftop scene. No one had anything to say about Jade in the Sweet Melody or Holiday videos. People just seem to have it out for Jesy and I don't understand it.

Jesy black fishing allegations been out since Glory Days era 2016-2017. She knew about it, lied about it & blame other ppl for her decisions & actions. Diddy did his own black artist signed to his label dirty & you think a cameo means he still isn't about money. Jade is a POC.

No one is coming for Jade because she is of Egyptian and Yemeni descent. She’s a WOC so of course she’s gonna look darker🤦🏽‍♀️ Jesy has been called out for how dark she tanned for years now. It’s nothing new. She chose to ignore her fans who were just trying to educate her. Even her ex-band members sat her down and tried to let her know that she’s been tanning too dark but she chose to ignore them as well.

The thing is tho that in the Boyz video jesy actually had a genuine sun tan it wasn't tan put on.. she naturally tans dark in the sun as many white girls do & even leigh knows that so it's not like she "blacked up" for the video to try to appear black she knows she's a white woman & has never said or even tried to be any other race & she also has naturally curly hair so wore that actually as a resemble her own hair. also jesy would never do anything to cause offence to us she's genuinely making the music she grew up & loves & not for her own gain she genuinely loves this music.

In UK particularly in Essex, boys and girls commonly like to have tanny skin. They are not trying to be a black person but just to look nice and attractive! It's like in Europe where rich people like to have a coloured skin too, it looks more beautiful and it's a sign of wealthness too. If tanning your skin is a racial offence to some people, I think it's overreacting and being narrow minded. Tanning your skin is not Blackfishing, it's another way to look beautiful and attractive, everybody rearrange their hair to a different color or style. People want to look cool, fun, sexy... by making themselves looking different to what their natural be! It's the freedom to express themselves. If tanning your skin is Blackfishing and a racial offence, should people stop being fake?! Meaning not to change any single bit of their self! What a boring and sad world would we be living in! Jesy was just doing an homage to PDiddy and she loves R&B! You don't need to be a black person to enjoy R&B or motown or soul music, do you! And I disagree with Nicky M. attitude towards Leigh Ann, that was rude and disrespectful from an artist to another artist. Let's never forget the Respect to one another, no matter the disagreement. We are free to expression but there is always a limit not to cross! That's my opinion.

People should be free to express themselves and let’s put all this black fishing emotions nonsense aside. Ok if you feel like what she’s doing is wrong then why not try and sue her and let’s see what the courts say and let them argue it out objectively instead of all this drama because I’m yet to understand what the big deal is about ‘black fishing’ You people should not try and control how a person decides to use their bodies or what they decide to do with their bodies and their lives and their career.

Blackfishing is subjective in my opinion. As a black woman when I look at Jesy I don't think blackfishing. She is from Essex UK and they love a good tan. She said she had a natural tan in her video. She has been darker in Little Mix videos. She grew up listening to old school RnB..Naturally she wants to make the music that inspired her to pay homage. In the age where men can identify as women and vice versa. In the age where drag Queens are idolised and make money off the back of it. In the age where trans men can compete in women's athletics. In the age where people can leave counties in Africa or the West Indies to chase the Amercan dream in the USA for a better life...I just don't get it..... though I respect we all have a right to our opinion.

I'm really sick of all of this. If you are smart at all you know Jesy isn't trying to be black. She isn't purposely trying to look ambiguous. When she started with little mix, trying out for Xfactor, she dressed that way, that's how everyone dressed where she was from in Essex. She was tan. She loved R&B and hip hop. She has naturally curly hair. All the girls wore wigs all the time. I personally like to tan. Who is anyone to tell me I can't. I also will wear what I want. How would you like anyone telling you what you can and cannot do. Ridiculous. Everyone needs to mind their own business. If you don't like her don't watch her. People (especially black people) have a right to feel offended by how Jesy is coming off. Jesy has been warned too many times about this but she doesn't seem to care so if people want to call her out they can. You said if they don't like Jesy then they should stop watching her, you clearly missed when they said they still love her and don't think she's malicious. Do you have love for her? Because I haven't seen you sympathise with the pressures society has put on her to look a certain way? White women are pressured too to look a certain way. If your white and you show a culture your not a part of its bad, there's a hidden agenda etc however why do Hispanic people get away with showing black gktire but never get accused of using it as a prop. Hispanic artists who say the n word, Hispanic artists most thought were black. I only found out today bruno Mars isn't black and im 20 years old. I think a lot of time there's a negative bias towards white people doing things but when poc do it its more acceptable because of history....the longer we stay in the past the longer we remain there. I also just wanna say im not necessarily defending jesy im just defending how a lot of white people are pressured and fall under the pressure but get criticised for basically being insecure. I haven't seen any examples of a white person celebrating, showing black culture and ever being praises or supported. Its always negative. You could be a completely random white girl, if you have lip fillers and a tan then your a bad person automatically it feels like there's no actual balance its just always seen as negative so I would like to hear examples of white people tanning, getting lip fillers and maybe but lifts and isn't told they're taking from black culture.

No, white "woman" are pressured to look a certain way. That being thin/slim, toned, face full of make up, ie, a certain beauty standard. Not many white people have a look similar to Jesy, that's because that's not the type of look society pressurises white woman to be. And of course they understand, woman all across the world are expected to look a certain way based on what society tells them to look like. I ain't gonna lie, I agree with your Hispanic comment though. Even J-Lo gets away with using the 'N word' in her music. Don't get me wrong, that's not me saying "because J-Lo can, so can we" but, it needs addressing also.

@@MrSiBrum white women are pressured to look a certain way, the ideal is big lips, small button nose, big doe eyes and heart shaped face. Most white people actually don't look like that though. I know in England they certainly don't, you'll have 10 out of 60 that fit the perfect beauty standard. White people encompass many many countries all with individual features we can't all look the same and its just just being White itself itd the idyllic features of a small percentage of white people. Many many white women are considered ugly. Most of us have pretty long noses and thsts certainly not society's beauty standards. I like this healthy debate. Can I ask what your opinion on Hispanics taking from black culture? Why do you think its not as heavily emphasises as when white people do it? Is it due to the fact they Also suffer racism?
