What people be missing is that Sangwoo was meant to k*ll himself. Before they went back for the 2nd game, he was gonna k*ll himself in the bathtub. It was written all over his character that he was the type of person that is afraid of his own failure and likes to preserve a certain image of intelligence and success (he scams people for money, he couldn't face his mom with his failures, and he dresses up in a suit even in his s**cide attempt). He cannot agree to Gihun giving up the prize money because that would mean no money goes to his mom (which Gihun failed to do btw, for A YEAR). If he wasn't going to win, he needed to make sure that someone who will win will help his mother. That's why he k*lled himself.

It's an immediate reaction to be mad at him for not seeing his daughter after all that, but I feel like his last interaction with Il Nam (the final game with the homeless man on the street) reinforced Gi Hun's mentality to always help people in need and not be a bystander to seeing people in danger. He saw the games still happening and he couldn't just 'ignore' it like other people on the street passing by the old man. Obviously it seems more like a setup for s2 more than anything lol and the dramatic way he kind of took off made it seem like he totally ditched his daughter lol but I mean he has a purpose now more than just being a 'good father' and its to stop these evil people.

And when people are like 'what are you going to do by yourself? you can't stop them' its like does that stop people in real life irl trying to stop corporations or systemic cultural norms from being dismantled? Cmon guys at least he has millions lol. People who don't have as much as Gi Hun have created change outside of the show. i'm interested to hear your thoughts once you've digested the ending more.

This is a really good explanation, I never thought of it this way. You made me realized that the last game the old man played with him kinda foreshadowed this, that we pass by people in need of urgent help all the time and nobody stops and help. Gi-hun didn't want to be a bystander and wanted to help those people who are tricked into the game and that's why he turned around.

Funny old man didn't believe in good people, but good people help him to survive in game. At the end, won main character, who try to help everyone.

The old man did believe in good people, he just wanted to show Gi-hun that there are still good in the world. That's why he called him back to teach him one last lesson before he died. He knew Gi-hun was depressed from the squid games and lost all hope in humanity because he didn't touch his prize money and was living like a bum. The final game help show Gi-hun that there are still people who cares for others, the old man didn't really care about winning or losing.

Red hair usually symbolize determination and vengeance. Yes, the cop story is a cliché trope, a setup for the future. Had Sangwoo agree to Gihun's idea, then both of them would leave without money. Sangwoo made clear that he had gone too far, failure isn't an option to him. By suicide, at least he knows Gihun would take care his mom, and that was his motivation to begin with.

you guys should start "Alice in Borderland" its on Netflix and its sort of in relation to this show. Characters play a game and earn added days to their card to rest until they have to play another when it runs out, etc.

The old man may have created the game for purely selfish reasons, but there are clearly ideologues like the Front Man who genuinely believe in the whole "egalitarian shot at a better life than you'd get on the outside" thing, which is presumably why he took on that role after winning the 2015 tournament. So I guess it's down to personal outlook.

21:20 somebody in korea actually analyzed how much money that brief case can hold and came up with the rough figure. i forgot the exact number but if i remember correctly, the money in the brief case wasn't even one-tenth of what gi-hun won. that piggy bank was pretty big, i think 🐖

explaination: EQUALITY: very wealthy people bet on their "horses". if the odds aren't fair in the game, their bets are illegitimate. the announcement of equality is more for the bettors than the participants. as long as they couldn't bet on 001, it's still a legit wager. POLICEMAN: maybe partly for prelude to season 2, but also to give the viewer false hope that the story will somehow save their favorite characters by having either the policeman intervene or the police force who got the message that was sent. SAN WOO SUICIDE: his sole purpose was to win in order to make it right with his mother who's business got taken from her bc he'd used it for collateral. walking away with him would've meant the entire game with all the lives lost and morals compromised would be for nothing. being spared by his childhood friend after all the evil he'd done was enough, he took his own life knowing that Gi Hung would take care of his mother.

If they had incorporated girls schoolyard games, a women might have reached the final game. I saw that as symbolic, too. People think it’s all equal competition, but if you play the games of only one type of person, there is inherent bias.

"where is the connection between the creators and players" There isnt a connection and doesnt need to be one. The rich people who put this game together felt empty and numb to the world. Now they found a way to entertain themselves and see themselves as saviors because they set up "rules" and force a fake "fairness" to everything while justifying their morals through the rules and money they give the winner. However, we know they are morally bankrupt and blind to the suffering of others and ultimately just selfish people. The story focuses on desperation and what happens to peoples emotions and morals when the only thing that matters is self preservation and winning. It can bring out the worst in people and sometimes the best in them.

*Do you think the Squid Games would exist if we did not put a price on the lives of others?* Squid Games is a critique on how capitalism is rooted in the discrimination, oppression, and exploitation of others. It is important for us to learn this lesson on morality from this drama. Squid Games compares the contestants of the game to horses. In horse racing, horses are forced to participate in cruel life or death races as a form of entertainment for humans. They do not consent to be ridden and whipped. If they are not fast enough to win or get injured, they get sent to a slaughterhouse where they will get a knife across their throat. Even the retired winners will get a knife across their throat. Just like the contestants of Squid Game- those who fail the game get killed. Both Squid Games, horse racing, other injustices such as racism, sexism, speciesism, slavery, animal consumption, and all the other "-isms" are rooted in the same belief: 1) because they are different from us, 2) it is acceptable to treat them differently or exploit them. All animals, both human and non-human, have the right to live their lives free from oppression for this simple reason: all though we may look different, come from different countries, different races, different species, we all are the same in the ways that matter- we can feel pain, fear, and happiness, we have the ability to suffer, and we all have the will to live and do not wish to be murdered. I highly recommend everyone check out *Dominion* on KZbin. Plus, with Halloween coming up, I can guarantee that this will be the scariest movie you will ever watch! After watching Squid Games and Dominion, you have a choice: take the red pill or the blue pill. Take the red pill and you will be free from the violence matrix that majority of the world is chained up in, or take the blue pill and you will stay in the matrix forever, but remember that you will be held fully accountable for all the choices you make from then on. Not only does your life depend on this decision, but the lives of billions of other humans, animals, as well as our future and the plant we call home are depending on your decision.

If you really think about it, Sang-woo was the selfless one and Gi Hun from the first episode to the last stayed the selfish one.
@Elitist
@Elitist 2 жыл бұрын
Sang woo ended up in his situation through scamming and fraud. He put up his mom's house as collateral. The director literally says that while he has a good side, part of why he helped Ali was out of a superiority complex. You could argue Gi Hun wasn't selfless but you could never argue Sang Woo was. He almost had him killed episode 3. Even him killing himself is pretty logical. He either gets treated and spends the rest of his life in jail with no money and his mom gets fucked or he dies like he wanted to anyway and gets Gi Hun to help his mom.
@squadron2163
@squadron2163 2 жыл бұрын
@@Elitist I can agree with Sang-woo being logical. Sang-woo NEEDED to win for his mother and you can not like the methods he used but the end goal is winning for his mother or killing himself outside because of the guilt and he knew gi hun and the girl would have voted to end the game like gi hun did. Gi hun WANTED to win. He was willing to throw what needed to be done for his family for what reason? If anything, both Sang-woo and Gi hun stayed true to their characters from the start to the end. I feel like gi hun constantly sacrificed doing what NEEDED to he done for selfish reasons throughout the entire season but at surface level it looks like noble reasons but if you really look at it logically its not.
@squadron2163

@@Elitist but I will say logical and illogical is probably a better way to describe Sang-woo and Gi Hun.
