Grab your favorite beverage, this a long one but a good one!
I split the video into Part 1, Part 2, and Cleanup, for your viewing convenience.
Don't miss the great jet boating escape at the start of part 1!
This video was the final two days of a four day long jet boat camping and gold mining trip here in Alberta. I've included the cleanup at the end in my little 6" wide cleanup sluice that runs a combination of dream mat micro mat as well as rough top conveyor belt. My main sluice is using miners moss with raised expanded metal on top and it is double decker highbanker so it can handle a fast feed rate pretty well.

If the black sands in your rivers contain iron ore/magnetite you can use very simple method to find the highest concentration quickly. Stick a strong neodymium magnet on smooth iron rod with sharp end. Walk around and poke the gravel bar with the sharp end. The iron ore will stick to the end of the rod. To remove it simply remove the magnet from the rod after each sample. 80% of the time more magnetite = more gold. (Higher probability) It's much faster than panning. Pan only the spots where you find lots of magnetite.

Interesting idea. I tried doing something similar this summer but my magnet didn't pick up the black sand like I expected it to. May stirring up the gravel a bit with the rod would help... Thanks for the idea!

You still have to watch what gold you loose using the magnet. Maybe put what is left on the magnet in a pail to work on a cold winters day when you can't go out. 😊😉

Hi Kyle. Fellow Albertan here. I prospect the Kootenays and have a claim off Perry Creek. I have also found a bit of flower gold in Alberta on the little Red Deer river and South Saskatchewan, I have more bad luck than good no matter where I go but its the adventure that counts in the long run. That tripped paid off. Maybe not in gold, but definitely in memories. And.. you can't find it if you aren't looking.

I've been doing this a long time. I will say you have a great sluice and I also have a double decker sluice. You just proved you have to run a lot of pay to make trips worth it and your hopper is FAR more capable than your sluice. You are obviously able to easily overwhelm it. Like engine horsepower, there is no replacement for displacement. It's the same with sluices. There is only one way to boost your capture rate and that is to add more sluice. I know you don't want to but it's simple physics. My double sluice is 18" wide and 88" long. My hopper is the same size as yours and I am unable to overwhelm my sluice which means it's at its max efficiency. It will starve a gold pan. Not a speck. I applaud your compact design, but remember that compromise is never superior. Time is money and mining ain't cheap so we owe it to our backs and wallets to hit the gravel with the best science we can. Love your videos bro. God bless.

Love your videos and your mind set. You will get the feel of the ground soon and start hitting the pay. Few suggestions . Your nozzles on your grizzly could use more preasure and coverage. Squish them down so they are about 1/16 of an inch so they spray like a fan. You might want to cut the bottom of every other grizzly bar free so it doesn't jam up as much. Might think about some gold hog Matts at the top of your sluice runs.

I have one main suggestion for you to increase your "take" I hit the North Sask in Edm. one thing I found helped out a ton is changing up my feed. in this vid your main feed is really high. Means you have to lift the shovel higher to dump feedstock into it. I bought an old metal wheel barrow and converted it into just a mass dump that was much lower and bit higher water pressure and it clears out very fast. just a thought. 2nd bit, I have a small belt and battery run off a solar panel. it grabs the tailings and moved it off the side into a nice pile. was a small investment but it saves huge amount of time.

Great gold total Kyle! Nicely done. By my calculation only ~ 4% made it into the Le Trap, so that means your losses out the end of the le-trap might only be 2-3%, or less. For ultra fine and flat Alberta flour gold, 97-98% capture is an excellent result!

Another good video and zeroing in on speeding up the clean up. A gas driven broom to broom the top gravel into piles . set up between two piles just shovel with fewer steps . You said shoveling to close you were over loading . Sounds like more designing to take more gravel . If you got gold as we seen that far down in the le trap your gold catch isn't picking up as much as it should . If you are over loading yours get two boxes to shovel in you can use mine hahaha now you can do 2000 thousand+ shovels . Yardage and effort 🤣🤣

Your higher concentrations in the willows is easy to understand. Think of the willows, during high water, as acting like Miners' Moss in your sluice box - causing the surging waters to slow and dropping the very small heavies out.. This exact situation occurs where the beach sand meets the tundra on the West Beach in Nome, collecting fine Gold during storm surges from the Arctic Ocean in the Winter.

GooD job! I dont know how about here in Alberta, or in BC, because i just moved here from another part of the world, but i am definitely shure that it is possible to "live" from the gold prospecting, but to get to this, you will probably need to find places with bigger pieces of gold then those where you are prospecting now. If they exist here of course, because it is very hard work and it needs to be payed well... but not with cost of your muscles activity only. P.S. I love the way you are making videos, keep going, and after a while youtube will pay you for everything) Good luck in every your step!

Unfortunately not in Alberta. Also, the paystreaks are often well above the water once the floods recede, so while you could dryland dredge if it was legal, the efficiency would still be reduced to the point I think it's worth just getting comfortable with a #2 shovel and doing my best with the tools I am allowed to work with.

Maybe in the future when they’re available a cyber truck, which could possibly be used to recharge the boat in some situations… I gotta wonder how much of the entire economy is actually being consumed by the cost of fuel…? It’s gotta be a not so insignificant percentage when every step of the way for all the products we use every day is taken into consideration. Love your channel and I find myself cheering you on every step of the way, that you will somehow find a solution to beat the economics of the whole endeavour that you’ve embarked on. Wishing you the all the best of luck with your channel and your pursuit of gold. Keep it up man!

Thanks for the ideas! By the sounds of it, if I had a cybertruck, I could just drive the truck straight into the river and it would work like a boat... will be cool to see how the new tech develops! I'll keep dialing it in and maybe one day figure it out, glad to have you along for the ride!

Replying to my own comment to add this on. Portable river powered generator to recharge both the truck and boat. Not sure if this thing would have enough power to recharge the truck as it will likely have a massive battery and may take too long but perhaps for an electric boat it could be a possible range extender plus for sure you could nix a gas powered generator to power the pump on your sluice as well to completely eliminate fuel costs. Just thinking out loud perhaps this is actually all very impractical. I just find myself trying to think of ideas that could possibly improve the economics of your endeavour… lol Anyway keep it up! Awesome channel!

Well my man it is best you keep your job in the sands and add a couple hours over time. There is no pention in gold prospecting . Throw a few nugets in a pan that will add scbscribers. Anyway it is a great time to send in the wilderness.

Keeping my employment in the oilfeild would certainly be the "responsible choice" haha... Always a great time out in the wilderness! I could never bring myself to show gold in the pan that wasn't actually found from the ground. You'll never see "salted gold" in my videos. Just to be clear.

@@UtmostOutdoors it’d be kind of cool to melt it down and do a “lucky loonie” type of thing and install it on the jonboat. It’d also be cool to see you design and make something out of a years worth of gold! (Like would it be enough gold to make a ring or pendant)

Dude we get it you have an outboard motor.. I hate outboard motors.. I always remove them and find someone that wants it.. instead find a 4-cylinder 85 horsepower. Seedoo jetdrive.. and install it in your aluminum boat.. it'll be the best thing you ever did.. most places you can find the entire boat that nobody wants for about nine hundred bucks.. I'm all you do is transfer the pieces over and cut the proper holes and bolt it in.. I've done it to about 80 boats from flat bottom jon boats to what you have to river boats that are 65 feet long.. 4-cylinder 85 horse motor that I just explained to you.. allow your boat to run in an inch and a half of water. Undo 50 to 60 mph.. so explaining to us why you can't navigate the river because it's too shallow because you haven't on board and nothing measures does you know good..

At the end of the day, I'm sure we can both agree that the best boat, is the boat you currently have... An outboard jet with a tunnel and an inboard jet both run at about the same depth. While the 787cc two stroke sea-doo engine you speak of has a power and weight advantage, it's pretty common to see 200 to 300 hours out of the engine, while it's pretty common to see 2000 to 3000 hours out of an outboard. I would say the seadoo powerplant is the "fun boat" while the outboard is the "work boat", and they both have a place in the boating world.

That's just one of the great mysteries in life my freind... Try cutting up and crushing a lead fishing weight and put that in your pan, it should act similar to gold and help you dial in your panning when starting out.

You are too old for rookie mistakes that can get you killed. Always gear up. Also it appears that you are operating an outboard motor on a conventional boat. NOT a Jet boat. Maybe revise the title to be truthful.
@UtmostOutdoors
@UtmostOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Agreed I need to be prepared in case I get stuck out there! However, a "jet boat" is not actually a type of boat, but a type of drive. My outboard is equipped with a factory jet rather than a prop, essentially making the boat a "jet boat". The hull is also highly modified with a tunnel for the jet and so I do not believe the title lacks truth. Thanks for watching and commenting!
