Highest launches I've seen from a jet can model that big!

Very cool! I always loved the old AJ Interceptors from my childhood. The wings folded back along the fuselage for launch, then deployed at the top of the climb for glide.

Thank you for posting this. Until recently I hadn't built any free flight planes for about 30 years, but I'm now building some chuck gliders, catapult gliders and simple rubber powered aircraft to introduce my young kids to model building and flying. We've been having a lot of fun with a catapult F-86 (plans from Outerzone) and it's great to see how the pros do it. That height and transition are impressive indeed!

It's amazing what can be achieved with this simple aeromodeling medium, but not everyone of us has the level of skill on show here! Truly impressive. Nice one! 👍

Elegant flights. Shows the transition from climb to glide clearly. CLG flying is a world by itself and can be as exciting and satisfying as any other firm of Aeromodelling.

Here in SA we call it Canberra, she served faithfully in SAAF for many years and was one of the unsung heroes in fact of the Bush War. It shouldn't surprise me having watched so many of your amazing builds, but I am impressed by the flights and fun you get out of a simple profile catapult glider

Malav! What a great build! You trimmed it perfectly! The transition and glides are so buttery smooth! That plus perfect backdrop of clouds also makes for a great video! 👍😊

Zounds!! How do you get that incredibly smooth transition at the top of the shot? There was none of the usual loss of altitude......this alone is very impressive.

Cool. I'd think if a model of the Spy Version with the huge wings were tried, you'd probably need a DT for it. In the late 50s / early 60s, I was pretty good at H. L. G. Since I can't throw like a good Pitcher any more, this is something I could do. :)

Ah, a Canberra in Indian colors! I made one decades ago, along with a Hunter. They were smaller and flew OK but not as well as this one. I might just try this out. Both make great gliders. Thanks for the plans.

Is there some mechanism for a change in elevator pitch between vertical ascent and gliding? I'd think a fixed pitch that made it glide well would cause it to loop immediately after launch.
@Hoverbatic3 жыл бұрын
good idea! But something as small and light as these FAC Jets it is very challenging to implement such. Most of us painstakingly adjust the decalage with tabs or very thin bond paper or masking tape etc. till we get it correct .Regards, Malav
@danpatterson80093 жыл бұрын
All I can say is, I never got my Guillow gliders to do that. I imagine a flexible tab, or an elevator on a flexible hinge, could be blown flat at launch speeds and then increase in incidence when the airspeed drops off. Still would take some fiddling to get it right.

Gurney tab on stab TE.
@Hoverbatic3 жыл бұрын
@@davidduganne5939 yes. That is what i have, a masking tape for gurney flap.
@hummingbirdmodelproducts26913 жыл бұрын
@@danpatterson8009 The key is to have the CG in the correct spot so that you can run a near zero decalage. Then its is fairly easy as long as the stab is are enough and the is enough tail volume to allow for recovery. The guillows gliders had a forward CG and therefore required lots of decalage which results in a model that is very sensitive to velocity changes (stable glide when slow but loop at speed).

hello. I would like to ask some questions: 1. How many grams of ballast did you put in the model's nose. 2. At what percentage of the wing chord is the CG? Thank you
@malavshah59973 жыл бұрын
The CG range is shown on the plans. Your actual CG for a good flight maybe different .I built two of this model. The first one came about 1/8 inch behind the recommended forward mark of the CG as shown on the plan. The one in this video came out about 3/32 inch ahead of the forward mark on the plan. It all depends on the wood you selected for the various parts, amount of glue etc. The model in the video used about 1 gram of weight. My other model used about .75 grams of weight. CG as shown on the plan is the recommended range by the builder not fixed. Depending on your CG that makes your airplane fly best will require different weights.
