People don't give Mayumi Tanaka the the praise she deserves she goes so hard in 309 and that fucking roar Luffy lets out gives me chills every single time. Also i really like how much it feels like Lucci is in a league of his own when it comes to the Six Powers,not only does he use all six and variants of every single one and also have Kumadori's Life Return,but he even combines some of them,like Razor being Shave and Moonwalk put together,which is what i think the Six King Gun is all of the powers put together in a single attack. Now for One Piece at a time: In the manga there is actually another marine Captain named Sharinguru he has a fruit that allowes him to spin his body, for whatever reason he wasn't put in the anime.

Even before One Piece, she's well-known for playing the protagonist in Castle in the Sky and Krilin in Dragon Ball in the 80s, two of the GOATs in anime history. Don't make her sound so sad, if you go ask any random Japanese people in the street, they will tell you who Tanaka Mayumi is.

Yeah, I was never very fond of how the anime handles this portion of the Buster Call. In the manga, we see the crew really struggling to survive against the marines, yet in the anime darn near everyone is instantly taking out dozens of captains in a single attack, lol. This is the point where the pacing issues really start sticking out like a sore thumb.... in padding out the battle like this, the anime really dilutes the major threat the BC is meant to represent, IMO. But hey, it's not all bad. I really do enjoy how the Jet Gatling finisher was handled (Luffy's VA really hit the ball out of the park with her performance here 😉). I'm also very interested in seeing you guys' take on the aftermath of these events.....

I'm so glad there's a comment about this lol, this moment in the manga is way shorter since the crew is at their wits end and it took no time for them to be pushed into a literal corner, the anime's added scenes makes it feel like it really isn't that big of a deal which goes in direct contrast with what they do in the next episodes *because* they were being cornered so badly.

Like you two said, dragging out this fight is a disservice to the implied tone in the manga and completely changes the viewer's impression, enough that I feel bad for anime-only fans. For Carson, as someone who understands the relationship between manga and anime and the adjustments that need to be made when the source material is running out of story to adapt, it's awkward when he's commented on that before but doesn't take that possibility into account at times like these. 😔

Honestly, with the anime close to the manga since Water 7 this is the first story arc to feel the pacing stretch, I think if it was as succinct as the manga it would make a huge difference for you... but if you feel this way now, I can definitely say the pacing will never get better for the rest of the series. 😅 You're welcome to react however you'd like, but it just feels like you're missing a general sense of enjoyment through these past twenty episodes or so, and if that's true I just have empathy. When Luffy, battered, broken, pushed to his limits and beyond, yet still victorious, screams at the top of his lungs that they're all going back together; and Nico Robin, abused, ostracized, hunted, and dreadfully alone for her entire life, looks in Luffy's direction, a small but sincere smile on her face and tears of joy in her eyes... It's still one of the most heartwarming moments of the series for me. :)

Lucci is thus far luffy's greatest opponent. He may not have a logia like eneru and crocodile, but what he has is a dark determination to see that his idea of jsutice is fulfiled and a desire to kill. Ultimately luffy wins because his sheer rage at all these people deciding what robin's life should be and his absolute refusal to jsut let the government murder her drives him to push his body past ALL limits to make Lucci STOP. Crocodile beat luffy twice, eneru was clever enough to incapacitate him and had power to destory an entire island, but Lucci pushed luffy to his breaking down multiple times and even forced luffy to come up with new moves just to land a HIT. Luffy's bones are likely splinters now, but he WON.

What Carson says about the marines doesn't bother me at all because it's "funny" and it's mostly just stuff to fill out the episode, so there's a pacing issue, etc. But I really feel like it's impacting their appreciation of important moments and consequently, they make jokes about almost absolutely everything, like really, and don't take anything "seriously" anymore. This is getting annoying, I'm sorry. And so I also feel, knowingly, that it's only going to get worse for them, I'm afraid, because... well it's getting worse. Well, we'll see. (For me, One Piece is a masterpiece in terms of story/adventure/mystery/world building etc.. and the manga, although having significant flaws for me, is absolutely incredible (my favorite manga)(the biggest flaw of One Piece for me: There are too many "useless" characters because too many characters = no time and space to develop them properly or develop them at all = too many not very interesting plots and therefore even less interesting subplots = we can get lost in the story ( not me but some people are )= it often becomes long for "nothing"… etc.). But the anime in its vast majority is "horrible" and difficult to watch. Because of what? The pacing. You may can have the best story in the world, but if the pacing/direction is horrible, the final result will be largely diminished or even bad/very bad. The anime has a lot of incredible scenes and episodes (like ep 309 here) but out of over 1000 episodes, not counting the first ~150 episodes more or less which, for me, are generally good and acceptable for the time, I'm sure that there are no more than 100-150 episodes that are well paced from start to finish. That doesn't mean the other episodes are unwatchable. Even if there are many where it's very difficult. And again, I'm talking about pacing, not animation or composition and even less VAs and OST. The anime from episode 1 to just over episode ~520 will always have a special place in my heart because it's my childhood/adolescence. But after that I gradually couldn't enjoy the anime anymore because of the pacing. I completely stopped watching the anime around episode ~880, now I only watch some incredible scenes and "rare" episodes that are completely incredible. Yup, nobody ask for allat but I wanted to say allat.)

"what was special about that hit" Rokuogan is a combination of all the 6 powers techniques. Soru for impact speed, Tekkai for body rigidity on hit, Shigan but used as a punch instead of a finger (like Fukuro did it with his dugong punch), Rankyaku to create a shockwave inside the target and Kami to have the perfect form (hence the weird outline on Luffy), although it's never really detailed, Oda is not into super complex explanation for the attacks/powers. No idea how Geppo is integrated here though but it must be since it's a "6 arts" attack, it's not called "Gogan" or "Itsutsugan" edit: I forgot the subtitles tend to use the English name. Soru = Shave, Tekkai = Iron Body, Shigan = finger pistol, Rankyaku = the leg shockwave, can't remember the english name, Kami = paper arts, Geppo = sky walk and Rokuogan is the name of Lucci's final attack.

I read one piece manga, i don't watch the anime (I can't stand the pacing). But i love watching one piece moments, clips, and reactions. The VAs are amazing, something you can't get by reading the manga. It's weird but for one piece, I don't really care about the battle. I only engaged to the story. But there are 2 fight scenes that gave me goosebumps the first time i watch in in the anime. 1. Luffy vs blueno. The first time luffy using 2nd gear was so so hype. i remember myself often mimicing the second gear pose 😂 2. Luffy vs lucci. What else needs to be explained about this fight. Attari mae da!!! and jet gattling gun give me goosebumps every single time.

0:41 - "We're always waiting for that guy." 😅 Fights finishing in a particular order is kind of the standard most of the time. Arlong Park, Skypeia, and Alabasta follow a similar pattern. There may be some exceptions going forward, but for the most part we are indeed eternally waiting for Luffy. 😂 I'd have to check but you're probably right about the manga having not had so many uses of Lucci's rokuougan. The anime consistently stretches out fights and makes them look like tougher challenges than they were for Luffy and others. *Most* of the time that's done to good dramatic effect, but occasionally it can water a moment down instead (or more often, make things feel dragged out).

I also think the animators in One Piece mostly focus on the impactful scenes not necessarily the badass scene(Luffy couldn't beat Lucy which was impossible with his level at that time but he surpassed his limits to save his crew and importantly kept his promises)and that's what makes the anime intrinsically different from the others I would add some criticism to this video in a friendly way of course. 1/first of all, The title of the video should have been Jet Gatling because it is the most popular and powerful move of Luffy I felt that your reaction was quite platonic and could not appreciate the liberation that this scene represented and the immense effort that Luffy deployed to defeat Lucy who will remain in my opinion the toughest opponent that Luffy has faced notably with the limits and the technical and power inferiority against this killing machine. 2/Atari maida scene (which could be also the title of your video BTW) is maybe one of the best scenes in anime you need to enjoy and feel this moment (I'm sorry but IMO you'll never see something like that in the whole of One Piece) 3/the Enies Lobby ARC is the most tragic and desperate situation, Luffy's pain was immense but managed to sacrifice himself to save his Nakama knowing he is not enough strong to beat this guy, There is a certain indifference on your part to what is happening in the fight and several beautifully drawn scenes have received little praise PS: Not to discourage anyone but Toei Animation Studio Will did not do great stuff for most of the next episodes and the pacing was horrible ( Wit is a benediction for OP the remake project seems incredible). the manga is insanely rich it would be better to read it to understand Oda's perception and get into the story (I think looking constantly for good animation to follow One Piece story is not always a good idea, the reason is too much content, bad animation and a lot of episodes) repeatedly making jokes about the anime like one-piece can be considered as an offense of Oda's Masterpiece (I mean there'll be a ton of hilarious scenes in One Piece but when it comes to being serious it is wisely recommended to stick with the purpose instead of the production to maintain the interest it is what is.) One Piece is a very Dark anime but in general, that side is hidden to make the universe of OP enjoyable and watchable by kids ( similar to city hunter Ryo Sayba he's a former guerrilla fighter and mercenary originally but Tsuka Hojo included the goofy and womanizing personality to soften the character the difference can be noticed in the spin-off angel heart after Saori's death).
