I always consider this game as the spiritual successor to the Jackie Chan's Stuntmaster on PS1, it has the similar storyline and background involving the severity of 'rescue-escort gone wrong' vibe. But Rise To Honor certainly have the more serious undertone, not to mention there is gunplay. This game also quite unique as some knocked out enemies bodies doesn't disappear, which is pretty uncommon for non-RPG PS2 game at the time. Also this game probably inspires the creation of Sleeping Dogs, especially from the scenery and the setting of 'All Hands on Deck' stage. One thing that I found funny is that Yun, Chi and Michelle all speak English in San Francisco chapter but the surviving Yun and Michelle then switched back to Cantonese after returning to Hong Kong. A mystery indeed!

On a technical level it was impressive for it's time and had a unique cinematic feel too - very little HUD and no "video game-like" collectibles or power ups etc. Some of the gameplay mechanics could feel "cheap" and unfair like the enemies who can only be hit in a very particular way and it was up to you to figure it out through trial and error. With lots of practice this game is straight up fun but there was a steep learning curve! You're right about the Sleeping Dogs similarities, it really is like a linear, PS2 Sleeping Dogs.

This is a fun and underrated game! Really makes you feel like Jet Li! As far as the dialogue, the game by default has the audio for the Hong Kong stages set to Cantonese and the San Francisco stages to English. You can easily change it in the options menu, setting both the Hong Kong and San Francisco stages to English or both to Cantonese.

This is another one of those weird little mid 2000s games that holds a dear place in my heart. I will say though- this game wasn't "under the radar", as some would say. This was a big deal for the motion capture and for being heavily associated in likeness and involvement with Jet Li himself, who was a huge deal at the time. I remember enjoying this a lot. The mechanics for this game were as such that could have been expanded and improved upon. A game like this could have made martial arts films its own sub genre of video games. I guess today Sifu would be the closest thing. There is something about Sifu I dont like though. It seems to be difficult "ironically". It doesn't allow to be enjoyed by completionists and casual gamers alike. But Rise to Honor had something special that made it feel like a huge hong kong movie of the time.

Ok this may sound crazy but when I was kid I was having a hard time fighting Kwan. I didn't I know how to beat him so I gave up and go to sleep. Next thing you know I was having a dream about fighting blue Kwan clones and the best way to beat Kwan is Counter Attacks. So I suddenly woke up and said "I know how to beat him!" So I turn on my game and beat Kwan with Counter Attacks! I mean I didn't a dream would give me a hint how to beat the game
