Jet Set Radio 3 Is Finally Here...

JSR been something that not only got me to love SEGA games but also influenced me to a way I can't imagine. From me being an artist, to the types of music I listen to, and the messages and types of media I consume. I grew up with Future so seeing a new JSR game being shown off after 21 years gives me joy. I just hope whoever's developing the game, they do it justice and I hope for SEGA to not rush em for a deadline

Team Reptile's BRC man... They managed to get Sega off their slump an develop a new JSR after 21 years. I love that we'll have em both in the same decade! I thank you Team Reptile, because im fairly certain we wouldn't be here without you.

@@link5283returns if i remember correctly, we got the first official BRC teaser in 2020. Then in 2021, we got that rumor/leak of JSR with Beat dancing in front of a car that a lot of people dismissed as fake. I dont know which one started development first, but i do remember BRC was supposed to be released last year so I'd guess it was them. As for my opinion on influence, I feel that If anything Team Reptile has definitely shown that there's still an excited audience for bright, loud and colorful games with multiple genres of music and urban art styles (I think Lethal Leauge helped a little with that too)

They literally did.. BRC has the same music producers as JSRF and BRC was in talks way before it actually came out. But not onldid they influence them.. Fans made a server where you could actually play JSRF on multiplayer with people online.. and it all of a sudden went black. That’s honestly when I knew SEGA got a hold of it and planned to do something with the traction..

Ok here goes another comment because I just now managed to finish watching, and dude ... I FEEL everything you said. All those years it felt so kinda ... lonely to be a JSR fan, because well, nobody seemed to even have heard of it. Which is such a shame, because even NOW the original game has aged SO well in my opinion. it's so playable still, for the most part. And sadly, I'm pretty sure that even I would not now it, if my father didn't bring home a Dreamcast back in the day, that one of his friends had sold him. Luckily that came with JSR. And to this day it is my one and only favourite game. Amazing in so many aspects, it deserves so much more love and attention. But whenever I mention it, people just look at me questioning. :D I actually just got me Graffiti Soul tattoo a few weeks ago and I don't know how often I explained it to people now. I was actually 99% sure that nobody will ever recognize it. The community just always felt sooo small. Still I clung to it, drew fanart, even a webcomic. Knowing it all gets close to zero feedback or anything. Just because I just loved it still. I agree that Bomb Rush is a great game, and it made me so happy to play it and get that JSR vibe. At the same time though, I keep saying ... it does not have that JSR ... coolness, so to speak. Idk, it's different. Which is fine. But people shouldn't be like "you got this, be satisfied". No. As a fan of a series, you are attached to the setting, the lore and the characters. The style and mechanic of the game is just a part of it. Thats why, yes, bomb rush and JSR should absolutely co-exist. I personally cannot wait to see more of the characters. More of Tokyo-to. I LOVE that they seem to go back a more realistic inviroment setting. It is what I was saying for years. Future was fine for what it was. But (in my opinion), it was a little ugly and abstract. Seeing the root come back, makes me so happy. I did not expect it anymore. And I'm just happy for all us true and faithful fans who have this very unique game in their hearts and kept it alive so painstakingly. I hope a lot more poeple will learn to cherish the whole series. Best christmas gift ever.

I hope to see it expanded upon, like, different cap heads to make your own grafitti, and not just putting a jpg into a folder. Some sort of share system for consoles.

my cousins introduced me to JSRF on xbox and the rest is history. i instantly fell in love with it and longed for another game for so many years. then when BRCF got announced i immediately joined the hype train. i finished it with my same cousins in one week and wanted even more. and now after so many many long years, we have JSR3. it just does something to me man. the memories my cousins and i share. the feeling of first playing the game. listening to my cousins with so much intent while they tell me the lore. the world is healing.

It is a little funny. I was just born during the start of the Dreamcast and grew up with the 6th gen (GC, Xbox, PS2) and then on. Dreamcast was my first console and JSRF was one of my first ever game when I had the OG Xbox. Thanfully around that time, SEGA ported a lot their stuff on the 6th gen, so I got to experience them. It all means tons to me.

If you can, definitely get the Steam version of the original Jet Set Radio and download the CXBX Emulator to play Jet Set Radio Future. Those are the best ways to play the two games.

Could it be that Sega, besides if they were developìng this new JSR before Bomb Rush or not, they saw that was so well recieved by JSR fans, that they decided to go all in on developing this new game of the franchise? Ngl Sega got my lungs destroyed after that showcase. Once Alex Kidd got remastered, I been believed that someday Jet Set would return. Even when it took forever and felt like the leaks of the JSR might be scrapped, Bombrush might jusr be the new JSR3, etc, I still gave hope that Beat would return. I love BRC n hope the devs give a sequel to BRC, but man I missed Beat n DJ n wish they comeback to the modern light instead of standing in the shadows thxs to Sega milking Persona, Yukuza, n Sonic :/ (Don't hate any of the characters, just want JSR to get some shine too). Once Sega teased folks about "New energy", I kept my expectations low cuz there other hype teases were just disappointed. But man, Sega destroyed my expectations n got me ascended to the heavens after what happened. Not only they bringing back 5 old ips but theres more coming🤯, jesus christ Sega just instantly won the Gaming Awards imo. I never shouted out so loud n hard for the Gaming Awards since ever until Sega pulled up with their announcement and im truly happy, especially with Jet Set Radio. I hope Sega take notes from BRC n make sure the game is top-notch in terms of quality. I heard rumors that the new JSR might have live service along with Crazy Taxi which i don't mind online but plzzzz don't only be online for the new JSR. I definitely would like the silly story mode again and just skating around Tokyo again bro. I hope Sega either takes notes from BRC or get the devs to develop the new game. Plus get Hideki to compose the music. If Sega plays their cards right and does well at gaining newcomers into Jet Set Radio, then the future is finally looking bright for this franchise and I can't wait. Tbh the only thing that bothers me about this announcement isn't anything to do with the game or announcement itself, but some folks' trying to put this down to prop up Bombrush. Now i love the shit outta that game, but I was always of the mindset indie spiritual successors in the same vein are just fun love letters, NEVER actual replacements. Bombrush is Bombrush and Jet Set is Jet Set, yeah it might be nostalgia and brand loyalty talking but I never once thought to myself "I don't need a new JSR or the new JSR has to top this in every way to get my attention". World's big enough for both and I'll happily be greedy and enjoy both, thanks lol. As for thoughts on what's shown, of course it ain't much but i fw with everything so far. The art style isn't AS toony as before yeah, but it's still far from realistic and more than stylish enough. It's like when folks look at Twilight Princess and go "this is the SUPER REALISTIC looking Zelda" like... Do the eyes work fam? Lol. But stuff like character design I get folks having mixed thoughts on. Hell, I hold tree ogs aesthetics and fashion close to my heart to the point i don't even like a lot of Future's redesigns to this day lol. But personally for this game, I like all the redesigns shown so far. I just wanna see and hear more. Just let it be a bigger version of the previous 2, i don't want any major genre shift or fortnite style b.s. Just the 3rd Jet Set Radio. Also of course funky uncle gotta be on the beats or I'll riot.

Waited so long for this to come, and Bomb Rush filled that void that SEGA left for 2 decades. Me personally, I'm happy this happening anyways. Also, we can have JSR and BRC co exist together. The thing that gets me is there seems to be a clear divide between the JSR fans and the JSRF fans. I only played JSRF, but even watching JSR videos, I can see the differences. But I can still respect the game, because without JSR, there would be no JSRF, and by extension, no BRC. I’m excited about the announcement, but ngl, part of me still can’t literally believe it. I’m so afraid, even with this official announcement, that Sega might still pull the plug on this, as they did in the past. And even if the game DOES come up, I’m hoping it lives up to our expectations. I’m sorry if I sound pessimistic, but I’m hoping that Sega really pulls through for us here.

Also i know this is a jsr channel, but for the other games I'm just as hyped. Crazy Taxi 1&2 were my exposure to Sega games BEFORE I EVER heard of the Hedgehog. Lots of Dreamcast time spent on making crrrrazy money. Streets of Rage i got into with 4 in 2020, great series and looking forward to more. Golden Axe series became an unexpected love when I was hit with covid and just going in on the series in the genesis collection on steam. I'm glad the series is getting another chance after beast rider's fumble many years ago. Still need a console Revenge of Death Adder and The Duel port though lol

Early Dreamcast Jet Grind Radio/Jet Set Radio Future on XBOX appreciator here. I can wholeheartedly relate to that statement of yours that this news is better than graduation and holding my diploma... This news brings back those teenage years of joy before all the youknowwhats everyone experiences in adulthood. Most definitely can this franchise coexist with the new Bomb Rush Cyberpunk franchise, in fact, it makes both even better. Hopefully Sony & Nintendo will take note and make their own versions of skater games like these, or have them on their console platforms as well. Who knows.

Technically it's Jet Set Radio: 2nd Reboot. Jet Grind Radio doesn't count cause it's basically Jet Set Radio: Deluxe. It's the same game with more. (EDIT) I still love this video XD Jet Set Radio is my favourite SEGA franchise and yes, my first Jet Set Radio was Future, but I prefer JSR because of how much more Arcade-like it felt. Also I just like Yo-Yo more in JSR but that doesn't really matter. ...Yo-Yo is my favourite character.

I feel like part of the reason it took so long for SEGA to greenlight JSR3 is because they can only tell the same (more or less) story, which wasn't something that sounded profitable to do consecutively.

My only slight nitpick. Is that im not the biggest fan of Beats new outfit. Like the sweeter and shades are pretty good but. I don't know the skates, and headphones are kinda basic. Like i kinda wish that they took more inspiration from jet set radio futures design. By having the headphones with those pointy tips at the end, and more stylized skates. And other small things i miss, is that cool little green symbol on his shirt, or giving him his gloves back. But I might warm up the design once I start playing the game! But maan its so good to see jet set radio back! I've never expected to see one of my favorite sega games to make its grand return like this!

I definitely have my concerns, but seeing the short teaser i certainly feel sense of grander verticality and nuanced movement that none of the previous games have, let alone BRC. The artstyle is certainly less cartoony but given ryuta ueda is still the artist for this game(who i feel is the heart of jsr), im very interested on his take of the urban culture of present day japan. The fact he's on board for the dev team alone shows that at least shows that sega is trying to make a dev team that knows their material, it just comes down to the other aspects of the game, the music direction especially, that will determine whether this game will truly hit like its predecessors. My concern is Sega and others now trying to bury Bomb Rush Cyberfunk as another "that indie JSR knockoff" alongside the likes of Hover, Neon Tail, and Butterflies. BRC had its appeal because it was another glowing entry in that flourishing "Fine, I'll do it myself" genre of indie games that comes out when people feel like the original inspiration was neglected. Now that the original is coming back, are we supposed to pretend BRC never happened?

I think it's the opposite, actually. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is the spiritual successor to something people have been asking for again for decades that achieved major success and shows that these games are still wanted. Now that SEGA is coming back to do Jet Set Radio, the question is more "BRC got things right, who knows if SEGA even remembers how to make these kinds of games fun again"
