MAGNIFICENT COME-BACK SHOW FROM A REVAMPED JETHRO TULL • Following throat problems suffered by Ian Anderson - which he developed singing the demanding Under Wraps material on Jethro Tull’s 1984 tour - and generally poor reviews for Under Wraps and the band’s previous two records, Tull took a three-year break following the tour. • Jethro Tull returned in 1987 with Crest of a Knave. With keyboardist Peter Vettese having now quit and the band relying more heavily on Martin Barre's electric guitar than they had since the early 1970s, the album was a critical and commercial success. Shades of their earlier electronic excursions were still present, however, as three of the album's songs again used a drum machine, with Doane Perry and Gerry Conway sharing drum duties on the other tracks. Prior to the Crest of a Knave tour, keyboardist Don Airey (ex-Rainbow, Ozzy Osbourne) joined the band. •
The group won the 1989 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental, beating the favourite Metallica and their ...And Justice for All album. On the advice of their manager, however, who told them they had no chance of winning, no one from the band attended the award ceremony.
In 1992, when Metallica finally won the Grammy in the category, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich joked, "First thing we're going to do is thank Jethro Tull for not putting out an album this year". • They toured the album with "The Not Quite the World, More the Here and There Tour". It was also the first time in the band's history that it had two electric guitar players on stage, when Anderson, albeit rarely, played rhythm guitar. The live jaunt was also a success and among the finest shows the group played, their date at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia was among the finest.
Performed on 25th November ’87, and recorded for live FM broadcast, the show was deemed by fans and critics alike as one of Tull’s best concerts of the 1980s.

I bought the show on 2 Cass back in 1988 at a store in Cambridge Massachusetts that sold bootlegs. It quickly became one of my favorite concerts of all time. Those tapes are long gone so it was really good to see someone put this on KZbin. Thanks for doing so.

I saw Tull on the "Crest" tour in Northern California. Fairport Convention was the opening act. Dave Pegg was the bass player in both bands, so he did double duty for the show!

I've been to a lot of shows over time. This has always been one of my all-time favorites. It was just before Thanksgiving and they were obviously having fun knowing they were having the show go live over the air. What they didn't have on the recording was all of the funny skits they were doing between songs while they were doing station ID's and commercials. Still have my $17.50 face value ticket (Center Orchestra, Row N, Seat 109), concert program, and blue/white "Crest of a Knave" scarf, but the girlfriend I went with is long gone... Thanks for posting. Good memories!

I was at the concert the night before, same location, and recorded this night at home as well. I don't know why but Hunting Girl and the drum and Keyboard solos are missing. I can only guess for time purposes on the disc. As mine was recorded on a cassette deck, I'd love to find the missing parts of the show if someone had them out there.

Saw many a Tull show. Beginning in 1970. Then72. Thick as a brick. Passion Play they skipped the Spectrum cause some asswipe threw something at Ian. Just as he was ending,to be thick, bam. He got hit with something. He said. As a fuckin brick like you. He said we won’t be back next year. They wernt. Anyway many a fine show. War Child an so n. Fantastic band
