Great Concert! I was there with my wife and friends. One of the best memories of our youth! Dinkelsbül is a walled city and this concert was held in "Meadow" just outside the wall. Sleep afterwards, was rough that night, too much apfelkorn and apfelwein from some German farmers to drive back to Stuttgart. A couple of us slept in the cemetery until it started to rain, then we moved to the back porch of the fire station! What a day! Mamas Boys started the day out and did they ever rock! Did I say What a day! Thanks for posting Remy!

Sorry, but I saw every concert tour from the seventies. He isn't bad here, but hes nowhere near as good as he was in the seventies, and you can tell his voice is starting to go. But for me it doesn't matter. I don't care if he has to use sign language I'm going to his concerts, and I'm still going to love it

I added also the beginning times of the songs (which I didn't have time to do on yesterday). The video seems to be the second part of the whole longer concert.

Ian sounds pretty good here. Crest of a Knave came out the following year, sounds totally different. Crazy.

Actually, Ian is straining here as he never got his voice back from the ill fated Under Wraps tour. Crest of a Knave is lower pitched on the vocals, but they still sound better than this.

Arguably, the best 'Tull line-up! It's a shame PJV left the following year, I think his contributions to 'Tull were great! (Was he on Crest of a Knave in anyway at all?) Of course, the legendary Martin Barre is in full '80s rock mode with those Hamer Chaparrals!

Ian aged 20 years overnight. Possibly the stress from losing his voice. You had to see them in the mid 70's if you wanted to see the best line-up. Martin, of course, is always the mainstay, but his short hair and lounge pants here don't look right. Where are the medieval outfits?

Thanks Remi. Peter John Vettesse was a talented guy, but I'm not really convinced his sound suited Tull, and those synths on Locomotive Breath are horrible! I was at this gig, so it's great to have the memories refreshed.

The Loco Breath keyboards on the 1984 tour were much better. Stealth. This one not so distinct.

Thanks for posting ... sounds like a bit of an off night for the band. 7:17 - this Irish jig thing is pretty nice and spirited though, Dave Pegg really rocks that bass. 15:45 - Martin's thing. This is really great, I've never heard anything like this from Martin before.

This was around the time Ian Anderson was coming back after his serious throat problems from 84/85. I guess Ian was still testing his limitations and it was a bit rusty. The thing that strikes me me most with this film is how out of condition and "old " Ian looks. I think that may also have to do with his time off . See him 5 years later and how much leaner and active he is. Its quite a change.

I like ian's looks here - later he seems to have shaved the grey parts of his beard or dyed it. He doesn't even try to look like a youngster but he ROCKS that stage. We need more role-models like that spitting stupid ageism in the face.
@justgivemethetruth

Ageism is bad, but no one will ever be able to use Ian as a model of the average older person ... he is too far from the median as a human being.
@andygaines9686
@andygaines9686 7 жыл бұрын
Wow, never intended my comment to be misinterpreted as ageist. My point was that Ian was only 40 at the time and looked tired and older than his years at the time. As someone who often sees musicians in their late 60's / 70's I don't expect them to try to look or behave younger. As long as they can still perform. . . or sing.
@NuntiusLegis
@NuntiusLegis 7 жыл бұрын
The only reason he looks older here than before is the fully grown, grey beard - no one can question his singing, playing or agility on stage here. So if it is not ageism, it's beardism! ;-)
