- Normally The number of "M's" before the name “Migros” refers to how big that particular shop is. There is 5M Migros, 3M Migros, 2M Migros and Migros Jet/Express. But I never thought about it your way!! I love it much better :D - "Erik" is a kind of sour plum. It's a seasonal fruit and lots of people eat it by dipping it in salt. It's a cliche pregnancy craving here, just like pickles! - That "mystery meat" is kidney sliced into half. It's....an acquired taste. - The canned red sauce is Hot Red Pepper Sauce. - People drink pickle juice here. Some believe it has immune-boosting effects, some just enjoy the taste. You can also use the juice to pickle your own veggies. - The kind of cheese you are looking at is "Kaşar". It is just basic fatty melting cheese made usually from cow's milk. But they also make it from sheep and goat's milk too. - If you're looking for generic mozarella, cheddar, gouda etc. there is usually a section of the cheese aisle where they display imported cheeses. You could also try the charcuteries (Şarküteri in Turkish) around town. - The only legal alcohol restrictions (at the time of this comment) are the age limit (18) and 10pm curfew for sales. Rakı in Turkey is made from twice distilled grape spirits and flavoured with aniseed - "Baharatlı" translates to "With spice". We use it to mean "spicy" but in our culture not all spices are "hot". It is my understanding that Americans, Canadians and Brits use the word interchangable. - "Mevsim Yeşillikli" means "With seasonal herbs" - That mustard section is laughable. I think it was just your luck. But if you want more "international" choices of sauces and other things you can try "Macro Center". It belongs to the same cooperation as Migros but it’s bit more high end. The prices are also... well high end. - If you are looking for rice to steam/boil then your best bets are Jasmine and Basmati rice. The other kinds of rice here are mostly good for making pilaf. - Şampuan is shampoo :D "Saç Kremi" is conditioner. - You are right, "Turkish coffee" is a way of preparing coffee. The beans are usually of Brazilian origin and arabica type. - Turks are big on hazelnuts and pistachios.....peanuts and peanut by-products aren't commonly consumed. With the rise of gym culture and protein mania, people started to eat it for healthy energy, because they saw the American trends on media. Have fun exploring the city!

Man, I used to live in Istanbul for 2 and a half years and this sure brings back good memories. That cheese you see there, my God, you have to try it, from low fat to full fat, the turkish people are masters when it comes to cheese making, forget all the cheese you know and try that, you cannot go wrong with any of the choices. When it comes to meat, the taste of beef is unique, you cannot find the same taste anywhere else.

Alcohol selling is not limited with European side only, if you go to any Migros around the country, depending the size, you will find every alcohol. Also if you check “Tekel shops” you will see alcohol is a bit cheaper in that shops. As pork is not consumed that much, you need to look for it. Please don’t confuse Türkiye with other countries like Pakistan or other Middle East countries, we are a secular country, no matter majority of the population is Muslim or no.

1. Turkey is a secular state, alcohol is everywhere, we got our own alcoholic beverages as you have show in the video 2. mystery meat is lamb kidney slice 3. There are a lot of different chip brands here with some unique flavors but not everywhere sell those. FritoLay is the most common brand here. However if you ever come here again I suggest you immediately buy peanuts flavored Cheetos, it's nation favorite (Turkish FritoLay brand "Çerezza" also has unique Turkish flavors and they are very good.) 4. Mevsim Yeşillikli means "With seasonal herbs" (Mevsim = Season Yeşillik= Herb "-li suffix adds "with" to the word. 5. 2:21 That's a garlic (I think) lol 6. 5:39 Chilli pepper sos (ACI = HOT/CHILLI BiBER = PEPPER and well SOS is just SAUCE) 7. 8:03 Kaşar cheese is a really delicious and greasy cheese that you can almost put onto anything, it is a great alternative for mozzarella on pizza and cheddar in a cheeseburger. It's traditionally made from lamb milk but now they usually go for cow milk. It first originated from Sephardic Jews that Ottoman Empire rescued from Spain. 8. 8:37 Yup that's butter. Tereyağı is transliterally "FRESH MILK/ANIMAL OIL" from Tere "Fresh" of Persian origin and Yağ "Oil" of Proto-Turkish origin. 9. Bud seems cheaper than Bomonti there which is a classic local brew. Also I really suggest drinking Efes Amsterdam, it's really good, my personal favorite. Last sip of that beer hits differently. 10. 11:29 BAHARATLI means Spicy yeah. Baharat means "spice" after all and as I have said before "-lı suffix adds that "with" meaning or better yet "includes" meaning to the word. 11. Eti Cin is a long-time childhood favorite of Turkish kids for decades. It's essentially a tart-biscuit with orange "jam" and chocolate flakes on it. 12. 15:57 It has its own taste adopted for Turkish taste but I assure you, it's still good lol. If you enjoyed street food you can also enjoy those. 13. 18:47 Kahveci means "Coffee maker" Kahve is "coffee" and "-ci/-cı/-çi/-çı" suffix adds that "-er/maker" meaning to the word like Photograph = Fotoğraf - Photographer = Fotoğrafçı. And yes it's Turkish coffee "Türk = Turkish" "Kahve = Coffee" "-si suffix adds the meaning that it belongs to the Turks/made by Turks" 14. 22:55 A North American can look Turkish. Turkish people are very diverse in appearance. Some look Caucasian, others might look Semitic, some look Mediterrenean. Some can look Slavic or Nordic. Some tend to look asian. For example you may mistaken my childhood to be an asian kid but my current looks is that of a generic northerner European. After all modern day Turks are mix of bunch of different ethnicities mixed with what's essentially was once Central Asian people.

Try Bomonti Filtersiz beer, it's my favorite. They definitely sell alcohol all over turkey, even on the border. Some regions have great wine. Also the first root veg you were looking at in the beginning was fresh garlic. Most people know it when it's been dried for a little while. These prices are great when converted to dollar because the value of the lira is plummeting, but for average turks and people who have been living in turkey for a long time, these prices and inflation are insane. In two years it's been almost 200% inflation. People are struggling to afford these prices.

Those mini apples were sour plums, those cabbages were not even big, they are on small/medium size for us, those were fresh garlics not fully dried yet. You can always use google translate. You can by the way find pork in some specific markets and supermarkets, but not everywhere though. Drinkable yoghurt is Ayran. Or if it had garlic and/or cucumbers in it, it might be Cacık, but Cacık is not sold in bottles, mostly in plastic cups that look like instant noodle packs. And to buy and drink Turkish coffee, you need to know how to cook it. It is not like instant coffee, you cannot just put it in a up and pour hot water on it. You need to slow cook Turkish coffee with correct amount of water over stove with a tiny metal cup we call Cezve. Or buy a Turkish coffee making machine.

Dude turkey is one of the countries that alcohol is most widely used (and it is NOT a muslim country, its secular) please learn more about the countries before you visit them to not spread misinformation all over, especially considering you are publishing the wrong information…. And then the turks have to deal with rednecks who are asking if turkey is a desert or we ride camels…. (There is not a single desert in turkey neither camels..)

They were originally the same company, Migros and Carrefour came to Turkey with a joint venture with local holdings, however Migros Turkey branch has been fully bought out from the Swiss company a while ago, so now they are completely different companies. It is not the most expensive supermarket in Turkey but still on the higher end.

So you thought plums are mini apples, confused garlic and onion, you put ayran in your coffee instead of milk. Be careful in Istanbul guys!

size göre ucuz olabilir nasıl olsa dolar 26,50 ama bizim için cayır cayır enflasyon yüzde 100 ,150 lerde aldığımız maaşın yarısından fazlası gıdaya gidiyor It may be cheap for you anyway, $26.50, but for us, inflation is 100 percent. More than half of our salary in the 150s goes to food.

with all that healthy food trends, I was hoping to find more products without added sugar, but there wasn't much in those supermarkets. A separate store with no sugar products would be perfect, who knows, maybe, I did not search well, Istanbul is, after all, such a big city
