My tip is to get a notebook for notes that's not meant to be aesthetically pleasing. Basically you take notes as needed during class and make it as informational as you can. Then when you have time, transfer your "ugly" notes into your "pretty" notebook and make it as aesthetic as you want. Repetition helps with learning and you'll have the neatness you want.

Oh my gosh, you are so smart!!! I want to make my notes all aesthetic and cute, but I also want them to be packed with information. My teacher will usually have us watch a video, then pause and tell us what to write down. Often times, its just a sentence or so, but I want all the information their giving me so I just write write write and there isn't time for aesthetics or cuteness or neatness. But this is genius! I can have all the information I want, all the cuteness I want, and all the neatness I want without the time constraint!!! Thank you, I'm so doing this!!!

I saw another comment say this, get an extra notebook that you can write as messy (but still legible) notes as you want and get it as info packed as you need. Then transfer the most important/useful info into the actual set notebook. You can even use the extra notebook for all subjects because you won't be using it for revision / studying. Then get a new one when it fills up and feel good getting rid of it because you already have all the notes you need.

You can revise your notes a lot more efficiently by highlighting important parts, watching courses, making a revision list (shortening em), etcetera. Aesthetic notes are not the point - learning your material efficiently is. You'll have a lot of notes during the school year. Realistically you won't have the motivation to rewrite them every single time. I'm an artist, I have to work outside of school, and I want some free time. Everyone does. @claudialovelace92572 жыл бұрын
@@forrestwatcher people like me who have certain conditions that make them get distracted easily tend to be uninspired with boring, messy handwriting. Rewriting your notes and ''reorganizing aesthetically'' can also help with recalling them on later dates because if you wrote them more than once it's like you did an extra study session, and they will be stored in your long-term memory. Just because it didn't/ doesn't work for you doesn't mean it is ''pointless'' because it is not. People learn differently, I've been doing this for years, and it has helped me a lot from c, d, f's to almost straight A's. And it doesn't take hours as you said, everyone wants some free time of course, but I'm pretty sure a sacrifice or two won't hurt. And efficiency looks different in different people. Watching courses, highlighting and revision lists are the bomb, but just because you use these and don't have time, effort, or your free time to spare for a different tactic doesn't mean you should bring down others who might benefit from trying it. #NOT COOL

In my house I wrote the necessary (complementing with the transcriptions) in my real notebook, which I re read years after I took the course to remember things 🤷♀️

In short: save the prettying up for later. Highlight when studying instead of when writing. If you have a multi pen, feel free to use it; otherwise, write in one or two colors and use other methods (indents, boxes, underlines, differently shaped bullet points, etc.) to delineate between header/subheader/content. Make messy diagrams that get the point across and redraw them neatly at home.
@dcardigan133 жыл бұрын
Multicolored pen is like the most shortcut option of all i think. Black for paragraph texts. Blue/green for headers. Red/green for flags or signifiers. Multicolored pens don't usually have the most aesthetically pleasing containers/packaging, but they really are one of the most convenient pens out there. My main problem usually is finding one that has all of its inks/cartridges flowing smoothly. Some pens have a faulty green or red and th strokes come out as dashed lines. I admit, it doesn't have a pretty color palette, but.... *shrugs*

Idk if a double headed pen where one end is like a black ballpen and the other end is a highlighter exist yet tho.
@sinaain3 жыл бұрын
I would just write everything with a black pen including headers and then later use a highlighter or coloured boxes to make them stand out. Even using a multi pen takes some time not just for changing the colours but also for realising when you have to change. Plus, they are not the most comfortable pens to use, Using abbreviations is also important. Also, you can use the Cornell system which leaves space at the side and bottom for additional commentary and notes and fill those in later.

It really is an art form and labor of love to take decent and fast notes, especially when a professor/teacher drones on and you can't hear key words. I do a lot of editing, writing, and research now and I'm grateful for the skills I learned, cuz they make a huge difference. Here are some things I've learned and want to share: -Make good use of visual notetaking (Jetpens also has a blog on it). -Use bullet points and short words (haaaah) -Make important words stand out in a different style, like bubble letters or bold/colored in. -For definitions, I used arrows pointing to the answer. For story rough drafts, I color-code character names with a highlighter when they are speaking and write their dialogue. In final drafts, they are formatted for easy proof-reading. Small page flags or mini sticky notes are perfect to add ideas when I reread a scene or bookmark a page to go back to. -Draw a box and add a star around an important note or assignment to remember for that subject. Dates are a must if you want to remember what day you took those notes so you don't get confused and study the wrong material =D... -I always wrote those important assignments in the top right of the page so I knew exactly where they were when I flipped through notes. -Think about the style of the notebook, especially if your hands are getting trapped by the coil. Think about the type of pen or pencil you use. I write with gel pens for journaling, but ballpoint for notes, because I can write faster with them. I used to take notes in pencil, but back-to-back graphite is a sad bad idea. And omg that corrector on the end of the pen is beautiful, but it must be hard to refill T_T

These are all really great tips and ones I wish I'd gotten when I was in college! I really don't have anything to add; I was pretty improvisational with my note-taking. True story, I used to write in all-caps and cursive interchangeably, so I'd do my headers in all-caps so I could quickly scan and find what I was looking for and my notes in cursive to prevent hand strain. Nowadays, I eyeball indents to keep organized, but then again I'm not in school anymore... Oh, wait, I do have something! A lot of these tips go out the window in art studio style classes. Word of advice for those: unless you're specifically told to have a notebook separate from your sketchbook- and you *should* have a sketchbook- use your sketchbook for notes. The juxtaposition of sketches and notes helps you remember stuff for projects and looks really interesting besides. If you don't like your handwriting on the blank page, try sticky notes or a memo pad! Jetpens has them in a variety of sizes and styles, as well as washi tape if you need to make sure they stay in.

My college notes were useless to others because I wrote them in my own form of shorthand where I used specific words to trigger mental notes. I was also pretty good at memorizing where a particular topic was on a given page (I.e. bottom right, top left), so my notes were uniquely just for me. In the workplace, I tend to use the same method, but take more care to write more neatly now, when I can. If writing is rushed and I want to use as a future cheat sheet, I’ll write out more neatly or type them up and add them to my notebook.

This speaks to my soul. When I was a student, I was already definitely obsessed with pretty and organized notes. But as many have said, there's not enough time in real time to do that. What I would do is write down notes as the classes happen and then when I go home, rewite all of it in the way I want it to look. This personally worked as studying, too, since I was taking my time to review and rewrite everything.

No more colors that I hate or ripping out pages and wasting time choosing what looks prettier with what. Nowadays I have 4 black pens: a brush for important titles, a thicker one for regular titles, a writing one and a fine one for little notes. If I feel like I have to, I use highlighters and to give contrast I’ll just change the size or the style of my handwriting, which is a great way to make titles pop

I used to sort of have a system when taking notes during class, but at one point I got teachers that just went through all of it too quickly. So I'd end up having to leave lots of space to go back to them later, when I am on my own with the presentation the teacher used. (Sadly, some of the teachers don't leave good notes on their powerpoints... which makes it even harder to follow.) 🥲 Anyway, this system was very simple (just me using a lot of arrows, basically), but if you want aesthetic notes, you just gotta make them at home. Like, do whatever you need to to get the information in class, whether that is just listening and then going back to the material later, or if that is making a lot of "ugly" notes. And then, when you're home, transfer those notes over to a different notebook. This way, you can systemise them, add bulletpoints and whatever you think you'll need. It also helps you learn the subject, as you are repeating it! 😊

I have been using this for a year now and it helped me a lot. One more thing I do while studying is listening to music now yes we do get distracted but I listen to BTS (I cant understand anything so..) and it helps me a lot. I used to do the same. Then my friend showed me a hack. You take a loose plain paper and make your horizontal lines with a bright marker and a ruler. Make the lines pretty thick. You can place this under the paper you are writing on and should be able to see the lines and voila you write in straight lines. You now have a template that can be used multiple times so it gets rid of the hassle of drawing lines on each page and erasing them.

This is where I take the ugly notes and re-write them neatly. I do this mainly for material I know I will be tested on. 3. Digital notes into Obsidian using the Zettelkasten system. This keeps all notes in one place and backed up and easy to find and the zettelkasten system is great for making connections between different subjects and themes. If you start a system like that early on writing comprehensive papers or even books becomes relatively easy.

Multicolored pens (3 or 4 in 1 pens) are probably one of the most convenient and ancient color-coding shortcuts. Assign one color each for paragraph text, headers, and signifiers/embellishment. You can't highlight, but you can always underline, box, and encircle main points. 😉 Your main problem is going to be finding one with a comfortable grip, comfortable tip size/stroke, and all inks/cratridges working correctly. Lol and then you have to reconcile with not having a pretty/trendy color palette (like pastel colors or retro colors, etc.)

My tip is to use a wax based highlighter on notes written in gel ink. They do a great job at preventing smears.

Hello! Your video was very useful for me! During a long time, even if my friends and family told me that my handwriting was beautiful, I always found my note-taking very ugly and cannot understand everything clearly… Because I write slowly on paper, I was searching a video about how to have an aesthetic note-taking without lasting too much time on it. Your video was perfect for me and I would like to thank you for your hard work! Have a good day!

Aesthetic notes are not just optically pleasing but also helps in studying

There are a lot of great ideas in the comments, also, to help when the classroom pace is too frantic. I know people record the lecture part, often have handouts with the visuals in them, etc, which would help pulling everything together afterwards as a kind of review. I envy students the array of options they have now. Back in the dark ages when I went to college, it was pen, notebook, ears, and fingers.

I'm really late, but what I do is I keep a spare rough notebook for 'lecture notes' in which I take messy, fast notes during class. Then I have different notebooks, per subject, In which I combine my own notes that I make from book, online notes on the topic, and at the bottom of page I transfer lecture notes I took during class (essentially things the teacher mentioned that I don't have written in my own notes). I stick to very limited color pallet. 1. Theme Color (any color with which I'm going to write my headers, and underline important terms) 2. Blue and Black that I use interchangeably (if I use blue to write notes, important points and key terms are going to be in black and vice versa. You can also highlight the key terms with the theme color) 3. Red (for writing down my correction and explanation for my corrections, for example if I've done a question wrong).

I just make sure my handwriting is legible. Especially during a face-to-face class or a live class where I can't pause the video, I just try to write legible, not make it too messy.

FUN FACT AND ALSO KINDA TIP: ppl who have adhd find it easier to pay attention during class with they have a goal not to learn to make the prettiest notes ever, like making a pretty spider diagram or making the information about WW1 look like a tank, it can rly help them stay focused

I always had 2 books !! One i keep at home and carry the other to school everyday. i actually start studying way before school starts so i have time to start making my notes look pretty !. In my school diary, i write everything down (information,important dates/pages) and after coming back home, I just write them down neatly. Simple as that. If you cant start your notes before, You pretty much have to gather your information abt it (from class or youtube or google), just grab another book and make a minimum aesthetic book. Just use one colour pen (black or blue, black is better) and write down your notes with that. For important vocabulary, Use any other colour pen. Or u can just highight them later. Remember to always highlight at the last and not waste ur time in between. You are making notes to study not for picture-purpose. Anyways, Thats all. Happy studying !

For the smudged pen thing - I just write the word in pencil first then highlight and erase the pencil before writing the word in pen so you can know for sure how much you need to be highlighting to make space for the word you need .

tips for making notes from jee qualifier: 1. Rang Birange notes mat banao only black blue and red pen red pens - important trick / concept / formula blue pens - theory and derivations blackpens - headings 2. write complex theories in your mother language like i use hindi in my notes :0 3. for physics and maths : i think blank paper are best for these subject as we dont have lines on whole page and we can solve problems without disturbance for chemistry : lined paper

A Filipino viewer here from the Philippines. Well, speaking of being aesthetic, why not making it even more creative like leaving an extra space for more information, or make it organized like adding page numbers for the table of contents (which is located on the first page of the notebook) (for easy organization!). BTW, thanks for recommending me this video and I hope I'll recommend this to my colleagues.

I found in undergrad that if I wrote messy/ugly notes, I wouldn't look at them. In lectures, I had to write neatly and mostly used bulletpoints. Today, I may be ok writing short notes during a lecture, but when I study I write my own "aesthetic" notes from the chapter and study from those instead. Based on this video, I have some ways to make those better, I tend to cram too much in the space >_>

If you would like to use all colors then I would recommend the use of pastel colors to make it "aesthetic" but if that is not your goal to make it "aesthetic" that is fine, but still if you would like to use all the colors my recommendation is to use one color for each chapter of notes that way it would look organized, aesthetic and since you used different colors for each chapter of notes then when it comes to studying it will be easy to find which chapter your studying sorry if you did not understand what I meant but I hope this helped you and if you read all of this please reply this or this 🙂 thank you bye.

I have a tip: You can just write however you want. Then later on you can transfer it to another notebook and make it look aesthetic cuz in class most of us don’t have much time to do it aesthetically. And this is actually what I do. I go to school write it however I want and then at home or my free time I transfer it to another notebook and make it look aesthetic

A tip I learned, if you think your handwriting is ugly and messy, just write smaller. Even if it's ugly, it won't be and look as much if it's small, plus it'll look neater.
