Hi Paul, received my Xavier NX and WD 250GB SSD today from Amazon. Following your instructions I had the Xavier up and running the Jetpack 4.4 OS in no time. I also installed, formatted and partitioned the WD SSD drive. I made one large drive of 240GB and left 10GB un-partitioned.

@@paulmcwhorter Thanks Paul. I have not setup the WD SSD to run the OS after boot up from the SD card as any changes in the Jetpack 4.4 will not be reflected in the OS running on the SSD unfortunately. Maybe it will be best to wait until we can run the OS directly from the SSD at boot up?

5:40 You said you need to boot from the Micro SD card. However I believe the Jetson NX comes with 16 GB of Emmc 5.1 storage as well. So you should be able to boot from the Emmc 5.1 storage, and then switch over to your 250 gb m.2 drive. So you don't need to boot from the micro SD card. Initially you do, in order to setup the system, but afterwards you don't.

@thomascoyle3715 4 жыл бұрын
@@curtishorn1267 The NVIDIA Xavier NX, which includes the power supply plus the heat sink fan is $399 with free shipping on Amazon Prime. The Jetson Nano costs between $99 and $108 (depending on the day of the week) with free shipping on Amazon Prime. To the Jetson Nano you have to add a power supply, a case, the Intel WiFi module, and a thermally controlled fan (to be the same as the Xavier) which adds another ~$50 to the Nano total cost. So the Xavier NX is hardly twice the price of the Nano Worst case price of the Nano is ~$160 and the Xavier NX is $399 for a $240 difference between the two.

Hi Paul. Ordered a Xavier and got it on the 8/18; then waited for all the other essentials to arrive incl the SSD. I followed your instructions but when it was time to plug in the power, the board did not boot. Had a chat with a NVIDIA agent, who was not able to solve the problem. Called Amazon who connected me immediately with NVIDIA technical support. It turned out that others also had this problem of board not booting when connected to Mac Pro running Catelina and a Samsung monitor. In the end NVIDIA wanted me to return the board and will replace it. I am waiting for the replacement board to arrive...Just wanted you to know that you have Mac users in your audience and not all boards boot as easily as you showed!

So the Xavier NX has embedded WiFi and we don't need to purchase a WiFi board separately as with the Nano? What about connections for external antennae? If using where you might need the extended range capabilities afforded by external antennae, the Nano would be a better choice. Amazon says maybe June 11 before I can expect delivery! How many have their Xavier NX kits already?

Just received my Xavier NX Dev Kit yesterday.🥳 Getting up and running was literally as easy as Pi. Only problem is being unable to configure the panel, aka taskbar. KZbin video playback is choppy above 720p on Chromium. Waiting for better WiFi antennas to arrive. Online documentation is awesomely overwhelming. Looks like I need to install ffmpeg. Haven't made it to the support forum, yet. But, otherwise very impressed. Would like to boot from eMMC and run everything else on the M.2 1TB NVMe SSD. Need do that with the SDK Manager, with a USB connection to a host running "Ubuntu Desktop 16.04 and 18.04 on x64 system"? 🥺 How about a RPi 4, w/Ubuntu 20?🤔 Why not boot from uSD, then zcat the image stored on the SSD and dd it onto the eMMC? 😉New SBCs are always like wading through muddy water, aren't they? Anyway, I'm right on your heels and looking forward to your next episode. Thanks for hitting all the details.😎

Really this is bleeding edge technology, and everything is somewhat confused, and not everything works perfectly. The challenge is to figure out the things that dont work because I dont understand them, vs the things that dont work because it is bleeding edge technology and still has some bugs. That is why I make these videos simple and methodical. It is absolutely overwhelming to go to the NVIDIA web site. . . oh you should be using dockers and containers and deepstream and transfer learning and almost impossible to figure out even simple things like how to really use gstreamer. Hence, I go through a lot of pain to try and guide people along a path that actually is understandable and that works. I spent a week trying to understand deepstream and gave up finally and will just contine with openCV and gstreamer

Paul, thank you so much for this video. Followed all the instructions in the video, but still not successful with my first boot. Tried two different SD cards (Samsung 256 GB and SanDisk 32 GB). Not sure what am I missing?

You are formatting the card with SDformatter, and are flashing the jetpack 4.4 , Xavier edition?

I have never heard of one having hardware problems. But, if you formatted with SDformatter, burned image with Balena etcher, and used the jetpack for the Xavier and it does not work, perhaps a hardware problem. Does the green light come on when you plug power supply in? You might have to contact NVIDIA technical support and see if they have any other ideas. Good news is they will stand behind the product if there is a problem

@@paulmcwhorter Yes the green light is coming. Fan is also turning on and off automatically. But nothing comes up on the screen. Will check with NVIDIA. Thanks!!

@UCfYfK0tzHZTpNFrc_NDKfTA It was monitor issue. I was using HDMI to vga adapter to connect to my old monitor. Read somewhere that Display Port to VGA works fine. Tried it and it worked.

also does anyone here know about neural network training on FPGAs? i was looking at this old video kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZqmmpl6bcyNZrM it is from intel, and some of the results sounded kinda good, but maybe i don't have the right perspective. also i was thinking about whether fpga training would allow easier transfer of trained results to dedicated circuitry. let me know your thoughts, also if anyone has some good sources let me know.

What part of first boot for BEGINNERS did you not understand? This is for beginners. If that is not you, you should find a different series of lessons, rather than simply sit and complain.
