About 60 years ago my Grandfather bought me one just like that for $1. I played with it for hours. Now, mine have motors, flight controllers, cameras and GPS. It's a great hobby, at any age.

I was going to put motors and servos but people got mad at me saying it should just stay as is

When I was little, we'd go to this elderly couples house on our block for Christmas. The older man "a grandpa type" gave me a wind up plane just like this. We went out to the front of his house and threw it around until it landed on his roof. I remember him saying "That's alright, all the good ones have a crash landing some time." I carried that advice for life.

I remember getting similar type of airplane in the 50s and 60s and play with them for hours in doors knocking thing off the tables.

They are still fun. Glad to bring back some good memories because these days there are not very many. I am from the 80s and the world was a different place. I bet the 50/60s it was even better

There's the Powerup 4.0 that you can attach to these to get a pretty decent RC plane

Before you resort to the cheat of using electronics to cure everything, try to understand the wonderful mechanics of the model flying machine you already have. Notice that slot for the wing, by moving the wing forward or backward in this slot, you alter the whole machine's centre of gravity, totally altering the flight characteristics. Could a little gentle sanding along the wing's upper leading edge improve it's airflow & will a little chalk dust rubbed into the rubber band enhance it's power output & life? Don't see it as a toy, it's a very good learning machine. Once you master it's capabilities & where things are 'set' for certain conditions, how much winding-up for just the right length flight etc., you'll have a far better understanding of how heavy, power hungry, LiPo driven, screaming monsters, waste so much energy by making such a song-and-dance about it. So, $5 for a 'live' research tool & 'hands on' intro to the world of aerodynamics & flight control? - An absolute bargain! : )
