Thank you for addressing the claim that you can’t reach enlightenment in a female body. I wonder, is this consistent with what the historical Buddha said? It is a very troubling teaching to me, one which does not comport with my everyday experience of women. I fear this view contributes to much suffering for both women and men. Please keep in mind, there are no men without women. The notion that they are spiritually superior is quite suspect to me. If anything, one could say that men need the teachings more. They are by and large more greedy, more oppressive and power hungry and more violent. There are many women who embody loving kindness and compassion and who understand fully our interconnected and interdependent nature without the language or supports of Buddhist practice. I have always wondered why the realized Lamas are always reincarnating as only males. When women are treated as equals and in fact honored and elevated for their tendency to nurture and get along, then we will be getting somewhere. Everything changes and we are at a point in human history where we must listen to the wisdom of women if we don’t want to destroy the human race and the planet.
