I'm so grateful to Ani la. Since I first read the Hundred Thousand Songs Of Milarepa,I've thought women to men. Guru Rinpoche said that they would surpass men if they set their minds on Dharma. The Mula Sarvastivadin monastic lineage of women is still with us. Ani la took such ordination in Hong . Kong .Ajan Bram upholds such .Male chauvinism is harmful to the whole world and in the spiritual path

I profoundly support and respect Jetsunma's implication in promoting the way of monasticism for everyone who might want it and, in particular, for women, who have been underrepresented in monastic culture for millenia. However, I don't think this is a solution for everyone, but for the people with particular propensities and naturally lower sexual drive. I disagree with the idea that purity necessarily involves celibate, which seems to suggest that lay people are somehow "impure" or "not pure enough" even if they don't engage in unethical actions (10 non-virtues). Maybe it's just my perception.. A lot of wise words in this talk, thank you for this interview.

I'm grateful to Venerable Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo for sharing her insights for the benefit of the lay community. I will take her advice to heart, and strive to both seek knowledge from the local monastics and to support them. I'm also grateful that I live very nearby a monastery, making this relationship much easier than it is for most of us in the west. I'm happy to have visited the local monastery for their new year's eve chantfest, where I was treated to a warm welcome by the sangha. I have an appointment to seek instruction from the Abbot in a few days, and I'm grateful for help from a lay practitioner who volunteered to act as interpreter for us.

Buddhism is keenly interested in helping people, that is a significant part of the religion.

Well, doesn't it sound like Mao, ha-ha! You are not as practical as you think you are. While basic material conditions are a must and Buddhists are encouraged to materially help those experiencing this kind of suffering, whatever your material conditions are, there's no happiness at all if the mind is enslaved by jealousy, hatred, delusion and the rest.

Tibetan Buddhism is a very specific type of Buddhism. It is highly decorated with lots and lots of words, idols, noise and superstition.

If the reality could be expressed in a couple of words, Buddha wouldn't have given 84000 teachings. So it's not about Tibetans. Tibetans preserved the great Nalanda monastery's philosophical tradition. And how would you define "idols"? If, akin to the Muslim invaders of India, you think that Buddhists worship their statues, then you miss the essence of the symbolic nature of Buddhist rituals, particularly of Vajrayana. Your view is very superficial.

@@flowingmind3 ; The more words used the less clarity. Sales Representatives could make use of many words to sell you anything. Do you really need someone to explain to you something you could only experience by yourself?. Yet, Tibetans, they do have amongst their irrelevant decorations really good treasures Teachings.

@@lorenacharlotte8383 I wouldn't compare Dharma and sales. And again, extensive explanations is not Tibetan invention. To express nuance you need quite a few words sometimes. Clarity depends on the content and on the perceiver, not on how little words are used. Samsara is a complicated mechanism, can you express quantum mechanics in a couple of phrases? Same with the wisdom. In order to truly understand the short forms of expression, extensive and detailed studies are required.
