Jett Lawrence Has His Eyes Set on Eli Tomac!

Honda HRC invited members of the motocross media to the brand's US headquarters in Torrance, California, to see the new race bikes and interact with the racers. We spoke with Jett Lawrence about the expectations that his perfect motocross season brings to his rookie 450 Supercross series that kicks off in a mere 32 days. I could be wrong but Jett is going to give Eli some serious competition IF he remains healthy! This kid is a problem, in 2022 Sx he raced 250 east so his first race was Minneapolis. Eli's best lap was a 49.1 and jett ran a 48.7. In 2023 Jett raced Sx west so him and Tomac both raced A1, Tomac's best lap was a 59.6 and so was Jett's fastest lap. These are all main event lap times! I know the 450 is heavier and harder to turn compared to the 250 but it has more ft lb of torque and hp, so its very impressive what jett was doing.

Read between the lines folks, Jetts goal is not to win A1 even though he will take it if it comes. He puts no pressure on himself. He has a back up plan, that is why he doesnt choke. He is not all in to win, he does his best on the day and is happy with that. Turns out his best on the day is better than everyone else more times than not.

I find it hard to believe ever lining up at a gate and not having any pressure or a desire to win. I'd imagine it could happen, but I've never felt it, even when I told myself otherwise. And, I'd say Jett's in a great position to win A1. Tomac hasn't raced since May and is coming off of injury...not to mention he's nearing the end of his career. Chase is on a new bike, and even on the bike he knew he couldn't beat Jett (except once). Kenny's won one against Jett, and only because Jett moved over. If I was Jett, I'd be aiming at that win...cause as the season goes on, some of those guys settling in might make that winning harder.

Expectation is really the only pressure you take the expectation out of the equation then there is no pressure. So to say yeah it would be nice to walk away with the win but to get out of A1 with limited damage is just about mind set and trying to show respect but you bet your ass he will be wanting to win.

The fact that we’re comparing a kid that has never raced an AMA 450SX race to the guy who is current 2nd in all time 450SX wins shows the kid is on the way to goat status. At 20 Eli had one title and 11 wins. Jett got that in his rookie 450MX season alone.

Lol.....they are not gods....but human racers. Jett may win races and even the championship but it wont be easy. Hunter isnt as fast ....Eli has the speed and knowledge but also hasnt raced in awhile. Its now a mental game of who can not mentally crack under the entire season or physically get hurt. They will be beat at times and will both be touched. SX is a contact sport. The holeshot this season is as important as all if not more .

As an Aussie its been a long time between drinks as far as sx champions in the premier class and I hope the kid has a ripping season. We will definitely know after Daytona, if he beats Tomac there i think Jett wins title. Dare to dream of an Aussie 1,2 in championship meh it could happen Hunter is ridding very well. At the end of the day lets just hope for everyone to have an injury free season because that will just be an insane tallent pool to say hey i am the sx champion and i beat the deepest field arguably ever.

It's going to take a little time for Tomac to get up to speed and have confidence. Pretty sure there is no pressure on Tomac to perform right away. So it may be awhile before we get a TRUE dog fight on our hands. Regardless, it will be good!

He did it in Paris just Recently.. 2. The Fastest Man Alive: He plays with the other riders like he's bored. He Rides smart and wins the WAR, 3. Mr. Consistant was Dungy, and he won 4 f'n supercrosses...WTF? he was not the fastest, but he was consistent. Jett has become consistent, and wins the championships.

No doubt that Jett is an amazing talent with many years ahead of him. However, granted I haven't yet watched the entire interview, but to only imagine lining up with Eli he is looking over the other riders that where out last season and will also be lining up again this season. It was a gift to only line up against roczen, sexton and AP last year. He best not sleep on the several others that were out with injuries last season that will also be hunting the front alongside him. A1 450 is going to be a competition like he has not experienced yet.

@@Stickbow1980 I think you may have missed my point. Yes Jett ran away when he hopped on the 450. However many top riders were out with injuries when he did. He easily got to the front. I may very well be wrong, but I believe this season with a full gate of experienced riders, he may see a few more front wheels by his side when he enters the first turn. Again, he may continue to dominate, but if the entire class can stay healthy it very well could be an entirely different season than last and much more exciting.

Jett processes pressure differently and he has perfect bike skill intuitive race craft and reliable flow state, he doesn't overthink or doubt himself. He just executes the important parts so well that it makes him hard to beat Eli has that peak level though from deep within that i'm not sure if anyone can match, interesting to see if he still has that afger the injury, and his age and mindset

Tomac's nearing the end of his career, and he's coming off of an injury/not being on the bike since what was it....May? Jett does point out that he's catching him at the end of his career, but many fans don't recognize what that means. If we did have that time machine, I'd still put my money on RC. Curious to see how Jett will respond to being pressured. Supercross is a very different animal from moto and guys will be gunning to get under his skin especially in the early laps if he does not get a start. He is one the best young talents I have ever watched but the few times he has shown weakness in the 250 class come from someone trying to rattle him a bit or crashing and trying to respond like the forkner incident. Granted he is older now but it all sounds good in theory until you are in the thick of it and get a little hot under the helmet. That being said he will learn as the other greats have before him and we will be living in the age of Lawerence barring injury for the considerable future.

Jett is talented and very good. But as history show it is not always a smooth ride. How frustrated is Jett going to be when things don’t go his way. Roczen was putting the pressure on Jett and he was not falling of. Jet was afraid Kenny was going to blow by him and ruined his legacy by letting him by he gave himself an out. No one believes that B S he gave for the reason.
