Jetta turns off randomly while driving.

Happens randomly. Sometimes while driving. Sometimes while stopped. Comes back on sometime 1 to 4 minutes later.

This was an ECM power issue. A wire was disconnected/cut.

Had a customer with the same problem. What I did: check the 100 relay in engine compartment. If problem continues, replace the 460 relay in left side of instrument panel. Requires you to remove the headlight switch panel and plenty of patience to remove the relay that is hidden behind a metal frame.

Change reley 409, it's function is to give spark to the fuel pump and controls the computer

I would like to confirm that it was the 460 relay for me. I had a intermittent stall after replacing the map sensor. I had a code for the map sensor also for a possible ecm relay. Before starting the repairs. So I replaced the map sensor and the vehicle would intermittently stall after driving about a half mile or even letting it run. I found that there are two 460 relays on the ecm under the dash. On the driver side of the vehicle. The one that fixes the top relay. If you are looking at it with the numbers in the correct orientation. Or the left relay. Just swap both relays but be sure to mark one of them so you can pinpoint the bad one. The other controls air conditioning and other accessories

When it shuts off, will it come to life if you turn the key off and on again... or do you still have to wait x-amount of time? This looks more like an ECM power supply "relay" problem, than an ignition switch problem.

@@FishSquirrel hmmm same here but mines only happen to b3 when I pass a bridge from work to my house. Once I pass it. It comes back to normal. Not sure but there was signs. One time it wouldn't turn on then it did but showed it had no gas when I knew it was full then it return to it's place to it showed it was full. Ima change the fuel pump. But tell me if u fixed it or etc

omar moran I fixed the problem it was my ignition switch. I replaced it. The only reason I found out cause if you search for ignition switch symptoms it was my problem.

omar moran the ignition switch symptoms makes the cluster go crazy or give you false alarms false signs. Goes crazy sometimes.

I have an 07 jetta and this happens to me too. Mine always happens while idling/in park. It seems completely random for me. The battery and ECP lights come on after it dies, however when I turn the car off and back on again the lights are no longer lit. I've never really had the time to wait for it to turn back on as I'm normally at a stop sign/stop light with people behind me. I have to turn it off and turn back on, and even then it sometimes will still do it the second time I've turned it on. I know the battery itself is fine but I just can't figure this out. I also find it very irritating that this many people and who knows how many others have this problem, many of which seem to be related to burnt out wires, yet they still don't put out a recall or do anything for their customers. This is ridiculous and very dangerous. If anyone can figure out this problem, PLEASE respond!!!

A Random KZbin Channel what year is yours?? Tonight I actually was able to drive my car about a mile or so and when I turned at a stop sign it died as I was going around the corner. When I turned it back on the epc and emission light came on. However when I was able to turn in to a parking lot and wait for a minute to restart my car again, the emissions light stayed on. I was able to drive on the interstate and all the way home with no issue but I don’t know if the emissions light will continue to stay on after this. I’m starting to wonder if it has been related to that this whole time or if this is a completely separate issue. I hate to take my car to the dealership for them to charge me for an evaluation and say there’s nothing wrong.

I have a b5 a4 Audi and found out a week ago how to reset transmission on the same car. I JUST stopped and (I think i helped) a young couple stuck on the roadside with a jetta 6 dsg . The owner said the esc light came on and the car came to a stop. He was waiting on his mechanic. I offered to try to reset transmission like I did on my a4 which is .1.switch off all electronics. 2 turn ignition on. 3.depress gas pedal hard to the floor and hold there for 15 seconds. Turn off ignition and take foot off pedal. wait in the car for 3 minutes. All electronics off and not opening doors. This should have reset transmission. Anyways. I'm not a mechanic and I'm not even sure if what I did actually helped their problem but they thought it worked cos the car started and they were off......longest and most uncomfortable 3 minutes sitting in a car in silence with a lady I've never met while her husband stood outside looking at me doing nothing for 3 minutes.

What kind of codes does it throw? Did you do a fuel pressure test? It also sounds like you need new brakes bud.

Nope happens when rettrograding mostly on 3rd gear and 4th gear happens a lot of time and still cant fix it But while the car turns off we just remove our leg from the clutch and accelerates

Had the same problem. Took it to VW to get a diagnostic (it was like $130) turned out to be the fuel pump was bad. Found the part online and replaced it.

What year is yours? I have an 07 jetta and it seems to randomly turn off while driving/idling. I've never had it happen while going above 15mph. Mine seems to occur randomly. I haven't been paying attention too much to see if it has anything to do with amount of fuel in the tank but I definitely will now. Were you able to resolve the problem?

@@skipleclair5045 Plenty of VAG cars have this issue not just Volkswagen. The only permanent fix is keeping your gas tank above ~30-40% at all times, preferably half full. Never let it fall to 1/4 or lower.

I have a 2004 Jetta that shuts off if I drive it more than a few miles a day (even if I wait hours in between trips). Mechanic scanned it and said I needed a Mass Airflow Sensor. So I had it replaced a few days ago but the car just stalled again (just over an hour ago). My car doesn't start right back though, I have to wait quite a while. (I waited 45 minutes this time) Mechanic said it could be my coil getting hot or maybe my fuel pump. I hate this! I have a panic attack every time this happens. I don't know what to do. I have 3 teenager's to pick up from work tonight & I'm terrified of driving my car. Any idea what it could be?

Fuel pump, coil pack yes. Have you tried crankshaft position sensor?

@@brumalnorth2512 I did. It fixed it. Now my EPC light is on. My RPM gauge (the hand) seems to stick when I start the car. It won't start normally, I have to press the accelerator for about 2 seconds, then the RPM gauge will operate normally and the car will start. I've been driving it like that for a week or so but yesterday my car went into "limp mode". It doesn't shift gears. I think it's driving in 2nd or 3rd gear but it doesn't shift. My mechanic can't pinpoint the problem so I'm visiting a different mechanic tomorrow evening. Any idea what that may be?

Sean Barber It turned out to be my battery terminal one was loose I had to replace it. unfortunately I had already changed my starter and bought a new battery. but my MAF is a factor as well, it rattles and shakes then turn off. so try cleaning it or changing it. they are cheap on ebay

hello. If anyone knows about the charging system of these buses I have a problem with mine, these days when I went to turn it on the battery was dead, I took it to charge and received the charge and they tested it and apparently the battery was good. I installed it again and after two days when I went to turn it on, again it was without charge, this time I jumped it with a booster and turned it on and ran it for more than 3 hours and suddenly it began to lose power and the lights began to dim until at a stop sign mr. I stopped and it turned off, it was normal and turned on again, but from that moment on I was losing energy and if I stopped or let myself go down it would turn off but turn on again, at no time did it turn on the dashboard light indicating battery only when it was already turned off, but while it was running, still wanting to turn off, losing power, it did not mark the battery, could it be the alternator charging and stopping charging at times? But if so, why if it turned off while running, turned on again with the key, should it drain the battery and it should no longer stall? some help? Thank you. It's a standard 2010 2.0t gti.

Crankshaft position sensor? I just replaced mine after fuel pump, coil pack and a few more. But the cps was the ticket. My car would stall in the heat, and then would start up after it cooled off. But when cranking right after it stalled the rpm needle wasn’t even bouncing.

@@brumalnorth2512 Thank you for your response, actually, the problem was with the computer under the steering wheel. (it wasn't the main computer, the repairer said it was from the steering wheel's computer, he changed it and it costed me around 150$. now it is working again smoothly.
