Capt Mike….You are doing SUPER. Let me give your viewers a great tip. After crabbing since about 1945 in Savannah area and later after 1949 in the Chesapeake Bay all with hand lines and the last 25 years in the N.C. Albemarle Sound ..I have learned a great secret when using hand lines. ……..bait up as normal with a light sinker to keep the bait down even in a fierce tide change. Toss the bait out to your hopefully ideal spot. Then instead of anchoring the crab line with a tight line to the bait…give the rig about 2 ft of slack line. You do not have to pick up the shore or dock line to “feel” for a crab on the bait. Just look at the slack portion of the line. If a crab is working on the bait it is trying to scoot off with the bait so the other crabs in the near area won’t steal it from him and the line will be taut and even vibrating with his trying to flee with the bait. Proceed slowly as usual with the net. If crabbing from a boat, after the boat swings with the tide, put the slack part of the line in the boat. I will be 88 in on June23 and have crabbed with 4 commercial pots off the dock here on the creek off the Albemarle Sound. Wonderful results….due to age I don’t crab now and have given my pots away. Our local crab broker ships about 10 tons of crabs a week up to the Chesapeake Bay area brokers. Everybody thinks they all come from the Chesapeake Bay but they come from the Albemarle Sound. By the way…crabbing with a string is a lot more fun than with a commercial pot. Two pots off the dock catch more crabs in a week than 2 people can eat. Hope this helps. Cooking tip for crab soup….add claw meat to the back fin meat to add to the flavor. Use cracked up saltine crackers in your crab cakes in lieu of Italian cracker crumbs. White crab cakes are tastier and prettier. JoeB

Love watching your videos. Makes me realize how much I miss the Gulf Coast. We always used the Wing on a string technique but we always either tied our lines to something or had a big spike to anchor the lines to keep them from getting pulled in like I saw happen in one of your past videos. Keep on keeping on ...

You're killin' em ! I'd also say to stay with your plastic net... wire nets are best for trot lining, but when you scoop like you do. they won't collapse & snare the crabs. you'll lose more with wire...

Nice simple way to catch those tasty crabs. I catch my crabs on a trotline. I use chicken necks. Do you ever see anyone use a trotline in your area. I know some states do not allow trotlines for crabbing.. Seeing your video is getting hungry. I am going to have to go and catch some blue crabs this weekend. Crab on my friend.

@@JETTIEROCKSFISHINGwithMIKED I think it goes without saying, but it might help if you also add you never take more than you can eat and/or give away as well as you would put young females back if you had better males (in the effort to continue the growth/population for those delicious crabs). Sometimes the obvious needs to be said; I could be wrong when it comes to youtube viewers. I love your channel and don't let silly ignorance ever discourage you. I will be watching all your crabbing videos for sure; not much of a fishing video person (nothing personal).

Awesome video Mike! Keep the crabbing vids coming as long as you can. I have a couple of questions: Do you fish a particular tide, like low tide or high tide or is just anytime good? And secondly, Could you also throw out like a “box” style crab trap from shore in one area while you chicken line another? I know you have that basket trap but I mean the ones you see that crabs go in and can’t get out type. I suppose if what you’re doing works (it obviously does) why change what your doing, but I was just curious.
