+TheWolfePit It sure was Larry! I love to crab as much as I do fishing. I think I'm going to buy some crab traps. I'm probably missing a lot with these nets
@TheWolfePit8 жыл бұрын
+Smoky Ribs BBQ & Southern Cuisine We use the same type of traps you do Rus. When I was a kid my father and I used string, fish heads and a net! That made it a lot of fun!
@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
+TheWolfePit Yeah, my parents would use the nets, and us kids would just tie a chicken neck on the string and pull them in. That's what my grand daughters were doing this day. So much fun, and great for kids, not to mention the good eats afterwards ;)
@TheWolfePit8 жыл бұрын
+Smoky Ribs BBQ & Southern Cuisine We use chicken backs now, but when I was a kid we didn't have enough money to buy necks or backs. My father and I would get ice bags full of fish heads from the boat docks or fish markets in the morning for FREE!! They'd always give us way more than we needed!
@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
Fish was a better bait anyway. That's what crabs love. I can't find chicken necks anywhere anymore. We actually used chicken backs on this video

ah Blue Crabs, Rus! You brought back a childhood memory on Mobile Bay off County Road 1 when I was about 6-7 years old; Dad was emptying crab traps off the wharf (baited with chicken necks and backs) into a #10 metal washtub; one of those blue crabs got out of his tongs, freaked out and ran across the deck and nicked one of my big toes! Lost my flip flop doing back down the wharf to Momma and the cup of peroxide over my foot! To this day, I enjoy blue crab claws only after they are fried and I know they are "safe"! My brothers and I picked many a blue crab back in the 60s. Great cook, my friend!!
@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
+MJ Trainor You made me laugh big time! That was funny! I remember a big huge crab getting a hold of my dads finger, and he wasn't about to let go. I think my dad had to take a pair of pliers and break his claw to get him off. I can honestly say, I've never been pinched by one yet, but I'm sure I will eventually. Great fun and memories, and good eats ;) Thanks MJ, I appreciate you watching!

+Smoky Ribs BBQ & Southern Cuisine Glad to share the memory with you Rus! My 40th high school reunion is in a few weeks in Mobile! Wondering if I have lingering PTSD from that dang crab! Reminds me of the Smother's Brothers .... Crabs Walk Sideways and Lobsters Walk Straight! ;)

Sure makes me miss my Mississippi gulf coast! Earlier while busy preparing breakfast I was listening and half watching while wondering which of our smoke detectors might have a low battery. Thankfully I came back to this and sat down to finish, giving it my full attention, because our ADT wireless system and all is a fairly regular occurring source of stress...but I digress. What a labor of love that was!

I learn something new every time I watch your videos or see you cook in person! I have noticed that these are rare at eating places these days... I used to see these everywhere back in the day!!!! The blue crabs are abundant right now in Corpus...That shrimp head sauce is the bomb !!!!! OMG the scene of you pouring the sauce on the stuffed crabs made my mouth water!!!! I request this next year at JB's... Just the sauce fir dipping crawfish tails in!!!! WOW... This is my new Favorite video you have made!!!! Peace my Brother!!! See you later tell the wife and grand daughter hello!!!

+Cookin with Surfin Sapo Yeah, everything has changed over the years. If you order a seafood platter around here, some places still do the stuffed crabs, some do a crab cake, and the best restaurants will put a deep fried soft shell crab on the platter! YUM! This would make killer dipping sauce for shrimp, crawfish, or even poured on fish. Remind me next year, and I'll make some in advance to take with us :) Thanks Sapo, I sure appreciate it!

Now I know what it feels like to be truly blown away! We can get blue crab at a number of the Asian markets around here, but I really don't trust 'em much... Who knows where they're from... I've done stuffed shrimp in sea shells. Next time I'll buy some lump crab meat and stuff them. Most of my life I tried stuffed crabs at numerous restaurants and not a one was very good. Back in the fifties my father would commercial fish and often brought home lots of blue crabs. Mom would clean them and stuff the shells then deep fry. It was unbelievable how good it was. I asked her several times before she passed away for her recipe and she simply said it was crab meat, salt, pepper, cracker crumbs, onions, celery, garlic and what no other recipe calls for. A small amount of hamburger or pork sausage. Nothing else has ever come close. It was sweet, dense, and most importantly not bready as most stuffed crabs are.

Looks really delicious. Up here in Ontario, Canada, we don't have fresh crabs. (Turtles and pollywogs, but no crabs :-) So we go to the local Loblaws store and buy a couple of kilos of frozen King Crab legs. Take them home and boil them in a big pot of water. Score the shells lengthwise with an Exacto knife. Sear them on the BBQ until a nice, smoky flavour. Then serve with melted garlic butter and a nice, cold Molson Canadian for the cook. Cheers from Canada :-)

@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
+Mark O Thank you! We have to get our crab fix on a regular basis here, lol! Yes you can cook the shrimp in the liquid, but it's normally done with the shells and heads still on like I've done in my seafood boil videos, but in this video I did add a little of it into the stuffing, so the shrimp did come in contact with it for added flavor.

8 years later and this looks so amazing. But I can't find anything on the website. Does anyone have the seasoning mix for the butter?

Dude I have to say that your recipe is the best I've seen for stuffed crabs. If only I lived in an area with good quality grab in which I would try your recipe out myself.... Nonetheless, you're brilliant with your cooking skills and ideas. Keep it up!
