I love the guitarist on this song. By which I mean the *song* not just this performance, though it might be same guy. It's fantastic. The main riff bounces along beautifully with Jewel as usual being brilliant. But the little *side* bits he does are just all great. Ask yourself. Imagine this song without those bits? Nope!

I remember seeing this live back the. It was one of my fav songs and the guitar player and his arrangements are beyond perfection. The guy can't be more cool than that... I think he played also with The Wallflowers years ago. Jewel was great as always. Great and unforgettable artist for sure.

The older the better with Jewel I think. This one kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2axl2ypacatobc is the oldest I've found and also easily the best, unfortunately not my favorite song at all. She doesn't care one bit about her facial expressions and the comments that would follow yet. She's there to sing. Full stop. That all changed and her vocals suffered very slightly. Please read "very slightly". But I notice it, the older the less she holds back. Less distractions too. Band, multiple camera's, lights all over the place. She became a brand rather than a singer in a sense. Totally love all of it but there's truth to it all. Unavoidable I would claim, truth nevertheless. What I would give to be back here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaS7moKtftVlack

As her career progressed she had a tendency to slip into baby voice singing and pitchy delivery, unfortunately.
@Emke2 жыл бұрын
Not a lot. She has difficulty here with the soft high notes but she certainly has depth, I love the cracks nearly at the same places as on the recording. She is also playing the guitar, so she is not holding those superlong steady notes, I would imagine they recorded this separately in the studio: guitar and vocals, so easier to focus on a perfect performance. After all, I don't necessarily go to live shows to hear a pitch perfect performance, but to experience the song live, filling the air, creating an atmosphere. Raw talent right there, she is amazing.

I was considering getting a guitar a bit like that last year (like the new cheapish Gretsches) but read so much about the Bigsby style tremolos knocking the things out of tune. Maybe he has magic powers, he's doing vibrato there he COULD be doing with his left, but is using the whammy bigsby instead. He's a natural born risk taker! Reckless! Like the Bryan Adams album! I might still get one one day, when I have more space. And recklessness.

This song is so beautiful... does she even exist to this man, is he with her or is she standing alone wasting time as time goes by but in love with the idea of them being together,. Or is he just another stranger just around for a little bit n then passing on by while she’s in love delusion. I used to think it was about 2 lovers that used to love eachother and then he just moved on and practically ghosted her.

Can't believe I actually thought this was good music back in the day... used to like this album (especially Serve the Ego) and LOVED the first 2 albums, but when I listen to this now, I realise it's pieced together crappy folk-inspired pop; Atlantic surely pushed her in the wrong direction trying to sell more records.. Not until Picking Up The Pieces did she become herself as an artist, again... just my opinion
