The pearl is actually from her Grandfather’s pin (who passed away) and her Grandma made it into a ring. Then she always wear the ring for goodluck. The way that her fiancé incorporated her grandpa’s pearl pin is really touching. Its very thoughtful. Edit: It wasn’t the actual pearl pin.

It’s not the same pearl - the one from her grandfathers pin is actual quite large. The designer who made the ring posted on instagram about the process and he confirmed that Dalton (the fiancé) wanted to incorporate a pearl element (not the pearl itself) as it has meaning to Ariana

Yeah, my fiancée purposely purchased a ring at least 2 sizes too large and when we went to get a wedding ring I wanted to size it down but both my jeweler and future husband were convinced I was going to gain a ton of weight during future pregnancies because we wanted a family in the future, so they convinced me to get a little adjuster. I had 3 pregnancies and never gained enough for the ring to fit. After the pregnancies I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease which led to me gaining a lot of weight (10 years into the marriage), and gained more than the ring could accommodate. I finally found an anti inflammatory diet that caused me to loose all the weight 20 years into the marriage and the ring is too big. I always hated wearing the ring because it was never comfortable with the size adjuster which broke 3 years into the marriage before the pregnancies. Such silliness to not have a ring that fit me in the beginning. Now I realize I just don’t like wearing rings so I don’t get it resized, so really having it fit me back when I was trying would have been best.

I’m surprised you didn’t really discuss the use of a pearl. With hand washing and general wear, that pearl is not going to last. It’ll need constant maintenance (replacement) over the years as the nacre becomes damaged.

My dads a professional jeweler/goldsmith and he told me that because pearls are so soft they make for poor engagement rings, especially if you’re hard on your hands (even like house cleaning stuff). They get damaged really easily and have to be replaced every few years. For a more “special occasion” kind of ring they work better. I guess tho for someone as well off as Ariana it wouldn’t matter if they had to be replaced, but I hope the pearl wasn’t sentimental to her if she plans on wearing it every day!

There are college’s, universities and private schools all over the world that offer jewellery making trades. It’s a profession & it has to be studied. Don’t know which corner of the globe you’re in, but I’m sure if you looked into it properly you would find an appropriate school to study the trade

I do love the meaning behind Ari's ring and respect it, the tribute to her grandfather is admirable. But the ring still looks off kilter! That being said, pearls are VERY delicate and daily wear will be tenuous a best. I would have suggested using the lead in a necklace and letting the diamond stand alone in the ring. But if Ari is happy, I'm happy for her. I just don't want her to be heartbroken if something happens to that irreplaceable pearl!

I think it's really pretty and i love that it's asymmetrical. I feel like most engagement rings look very similar with only the rock size differing, so I quite like this, especially the pearl.

Let's just hope they don't break up though. It's always messy to mix two different sentiments. Her love for he belated grandpa won't change but a sour ending to a relationship could give the pearl mixed meanings. It's obviously her call and she made a choice but I personally would be too cautious mixing sentiments.

I love jewelry, my daughter is the Manager of a big chain jewelry store so that's why I came by your video, just love jewelry but your explanation on everything, funny humor, humbleness & just overall sweetness is why I stayed & looking at the comments, I'm not the only one. I too feel like the Pearl will be damaged over a short period of time & someone said it was her grandfathers pearl, so I'm surprised she would take a chance of doing that. the pearl actually came from one of her late grandfather’s pins. her grandfather gave it to her grandmother before he passed and told her that it would protect her. :)

the ring is actually to symbolise her grandfather who passed away back in 2014. her grandmother gave ariana a pearl from his pin after his passing and dalton had a pearl put onto the ring to symbolise her grandfather!

I'm someone who's always wanted a career in gemstones/jewelry so I would love to hear more about this. I wish you had actually printed the ring on the 3D printer and talked more about it, the design, etc. than spent the time talking to the violinists or on the phone. How about doing a video of another celeb engagement ring where you talk about these thing? I really liked Paris Hilton's last engagement ring. I researched what it would take to have a career in jewelry/gemology but it's too complicated. I know you're getting slammed with comments and probably won't see this but if you do, would you mind answering a few questions for me please? I'd really appreciate it. 1. Are you a self-taught goldsmith? If not, where/how did you get your formal training? Did you apprentice somewhere? 2. Do you have any kind of certificate or degree in smithing/jeweler/jewelry design/stone appraisal/etc.? Did you go to the Gemologist Institute of America? 3. How did you learn to make rings and where do you work (not asking to specific so to violate your privacy, what I want to know is do you work for yourself or for a retail store or a designer like Tiffany's, that kind of thing). 4. Any advice for someone who wants to change careers and go into jewelry-making, gemology, etc.?

If you live in any decent sized city I guarantee you can find a ring making course. It's not that difficult to do. In Toronto there are several studios that offer courses for couples to make their wedding rings. The Devil's Workshop is one.
