New subscriber! Heya, Thank you for sharing Jessica! I've always been interested in jewellery (and jewellery making) ever since I was a child; designs from different time periods like Antiquity, Middle Ages and the Renaissance are my favorite. I'm always intrigued by the arts, creativity and skilled craftsmanship of a jeweller and I hope to one day design my own jewellery. Thank you for the tips/advice (in advance). Have a great day! Xx

Hi Jess, Thank you so much for all this useful information. I am looking to make my own jewelry, but not sure whether to do 18 karat solid gold or gold plated ? Slightly cheaper price. Thanks

Hi Jay, Well this really depends on all kinds of things. What kind of jewellery are you making? Who is you target customer? Will they pay the higher prices for 18ct gold jewellery? And can you afford to buy 18ct gold to work with? Are you also confident enough in your skills to work with 18ct gold? Have a good think about those questions - hopefully it will help you with your decision! Jess x

Hi Philo, so glad you appreciate the videos. This blog post on how to set up a home jewellery workshop may help with identifying the tools you need: www.jewellersacademy.com/blog/2018/12/14/setting-up-a-home-jewellery-studio it will depend on the type of jewellery you want to make. The best way is to start with a beginners course or project, source the tools you need for that and build up your collection gradually as you go along. You can also find a list of recommended suppliers on this page: www.jewellersacademy.com/jewellery-supplies - I hope that helps and best of luck.

Jess I make jewellery but also purchase already made jewellery and re starting my business and feel a bit overwhelmed as had a 7 year break due to marriage separation and divorce but over now. It has affected me. So I have a new logo and starting over. Do you think its good to do my own and other pieces from other wholesalers xxx

Hi Ninette, it does sound like you have been through a lot and is great you are getting back into your jewellery now! There are great jewellery businesses for both models of creating the jewellery yourself and for selling others work. If you are unsure which path to take, start with whatever suits you and experiment for a bit to see what you enjoy most. If you love making jewellery you will probably want to make it too, if you love the business-side and curating other jewellers work that might be a better option. Or combine the two. There is no right or wrong when it comes to this. Best of luck! Jess
