1. Make a plan and make it happen: write out business plan (see next video for steps to creating business plan). Think strategically about what you want going forward. Where do you want to be in the future? Where would you like to sell? Do you have a niche market? Business plan will give you structure day to day. 2. Know who your customers are and how you’ll engage them. Do market research. See similar business on the internet and see what kind of things they’re doing and posting. Learn about the market you’re in. Go to boutiques and galleries and craft fairs. What are your likes and dislikes w other businesses? Use these to guide your own business. 3. Talk to people who might be interested to buy your jewellery. Do polls online to see what people want. Engage with the people around you to see what they like, why they like it, what would encourage them to buy, etc. 4. What is your USP: unique selling point. What makes you stand out? Ask your customers what is special about your business. Look at business you like and work out their USP. 5. Keep things strictly business. Take professional, strategic approach to gulf sustainable business. When you spend, it should be an investment for your business. 6. Keep record of all finances. 7. Have amazing photographs of your work, put it on media, business cards, online. Be consistent w backgrounds. Can be worth investing in professional photographer if you can’t do it yourself. Very helpful video! One step I took toward setting up an online shop was taking pictures of everything I've made so far. They're not the pictures I plan to post online, but just to get a rough idea of how they look in photos, what I've gravitated toward making so far, and to see what I'd like to start an online shop with. Your motto "Everyone can make jewelry" reminds me of the motto "Anyone can cook" from the movie "Ratatouille." What a nice way to encourage someone to get into doing something new.

There are challenges when starting business like these that no one is talking about. There are many of us who buy from other suppliers who pay attention to what we are buying to try to figure out what we are preparing to make. Before anything is made all of a sudden those you buy from have made what you were getting ready to make because there is a whole community of people who pass that information back and forth to one another by keeping illegal tabs on those who are competition. Next thing your supplier has all of a sudden decided to make jewelry and has pretty much stolen the design ideas of what you were getting ready to create. The only good thing about them doing this is it reveals who has access to keeping tabs on what people like myself is working on. Then you can kind of warn others and you can take your business elsewhere.

Hi Ange, it's probably more a case of the number of pieces you've made - having enough to take to a market for example. Although, you could just start by selling to friends/family - and therefore you wouldn't need a huge amount necessarily. The more you make & learn, the more your confidence will grow, the more you will feel ready to sell. With love Jess x
