Great video! One question, after soldering what can be done to the back to make the settings all one gold color without gold plating? It looks like the metal discolored from the heat and the solder wire does not match the gold. Your advice would be greatly appreciated!
@Jansjewels5 жыл бұрын
Hi L A. The finished piece would need to be plated, or you can polish the pieces or if it really discolored you can take some steel wool to it. Once you have it to the original golden color you can use an enamel paint to cover the silver solder. There is another way of making this piece using silver plated settings, silver plated rhinestone chain, 300 degree prefluxed solder and a heat gun instead of a torch. A good example of this is the Swim Suit Connector video kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6vEfZSHh9ariMk

Did you fuse it together?

Hi Cheryl. Thank you for all your comments. When soldering to the rhinestone chain I try not to fuse the chain with unneeded extra solder.

im having a hard time choosing the right solder wire. i see that you have one that is lead free. wearing this bracelet on your skin is it healthier to use lead free wire? does the lead get into your skin? is tin solder wire safe for your skin?
@Jansjewels7 жыл бұрын
The most pressing issue with lead in jewelry is the use of lead in children's jewelry where there exists the possibility of the child putting the jewelry in their mouth. You will be using a small amount of solder when doing a piece and you will occasionally be wearing the piece so you are looking at minimal exposure. The lowest melting temperature we have found for prefluxed lead free solder is 440°F and would be very difficult to use with a heat gun. www.jansjewels.com/20-ft-Lead-Free-Solder-Wire_p_31105.html

mam can I used more then 300 degree melting sodring wire for solder jewelry like 600 degree melting point,and mam what type of clay u used plz tell me
@Jansjewels7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jasmin. You can use solder with a 600 degree melting point with brass settings but you will need to use a torch and you should not preset your rhinestones because the higher heat may damage the stones. The clay is Playdough (Play-Doh) which is a non-hardening children's craft clay. I use a rolling pin to provide a flat surface on a ceramic tile. Hello mam.......i want to know that how to clean that heat stains.......do you use polish or something.......and if needed then how to polish those stained areas into golden
@Jansjewels4 жыл бұрын
Hi Prince. Yes, you can polish the piece to remove some of the discoloration but it is sometimes difficult to remove all of it. You will still have the solder visible. The finished piece would need to be plated to hide all the discoloration and solder. Another way to make this bracelet would be to use silver plate settings and rhinestone chain, 300 degree solder and a heat gun. See Swimwear Connectors for an example kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6vEfZSHh9ariMk

Hi Maam, I have issue with soldering. Is Lead-free Electric solder different than other soldering wire? I tried with a torch and electric iron but my pieces are coming out very figitt. they either break apart or feel very rough scratching the skin.. Can you give me some guidance please.
@Jansjewels6 жыл бұрын
Hi Krystle, Without knowing all of the variables it is difficult to answer your question. I have used electric solder before and it worked fine. My best guess is either your solder does not have flux in it or it melts at too high of a temperature for both your iron and torch or possibly you are just not letting the pieces get hot enough for the solder to flow and make a good connection.

HELLO JEN !!! WHAT KIND OF WIRE YOU USED FOR THIS PARTICULAR PIECE? - LOVE, B.
@Jansjewels7 жыл бұрын
Hi Barbie. For this piece you can use any of the prefluxed solder wire when using a torch. If you are going to have the piece plated, I would recommend using the 450 degree prefluxed solder or the lead free prefluxed solder, since heat is used when plating.
